My idea of an ideal folder, for my neads. Whats yours ?

Thumb holes are better for gloves than most thumb studs but large, grippy thumb studs work good too and also let you easily wave out of pocket. Think he is training inertia/kinetic opening for the ninja stuff anyways since it doesn't matter as much if you get a crappy draw grip from adrenaline dumping and sets you up for reverse grip right away.

here you go, Peter & Ed:

Just some observations FWIW (always been a sucker for design brainstorming threads like these). . .

I know the end user's needs and preferences (EdWood7) weighs heavily on the design/ergos, and by looking at the Bedlam's two-finger cut-out/scallop handle, one can be reminded of the works of a respected tactical custom maker: William "Bill" Harsey. If you look at most, if not ALL of his designs, they all feature this handle shape. It locks in the the two index fingers. Yes, two index fingers actually in terms of hand performance: the index finger is the primary, but the middle finger acts as its back-up/supplement. Even my M-Type and the new generation CS Recons have similar handles.

Personally though, I also want versatility in my grip/s, but not sacrificing function. The knife has to feel good in the 4 prime grips: RGEI, RGEO, FGEO, FGEU. Adding too much finger cut-outs or scallops could create hot spots in the grip, even while wearing gloves. Keep the handle as "neutral" as possible.

With just a few tweaks (the design process is still a "process" after all), I think Peter R's drawing might already be spot on.

Just my dos centavos. . .

Just regrind the blade of the Bedlam. Reduce the width of the profile to match the Emerson Persian and improve penetration, there's enough to also leave a wave opener. Have the scales replaced with whatever you choose, or just get them textured/sculpted for more grip.

Looks like I'm gonna have the knife made!

My perfect folder would be a small barlow, tough as nails. The main blade would be a quality carbon steel or D-2. The small blade would be a little file. A real metal cutting file, not a fingernail file, harder than woodpecker lips. Pointy so the tip could be sharpened to scrape things and deburr metal.

Oh, and a screw at the pivot point so that blade play could be adjusted out as it developed.

Would it still be a barlow? I would want it to look innocuous.

You're all wrong! :D Here is the ideal folder right here!

What is that? I can't tell.

My Andrew Demko AD10 w/ his patented thumb plate opener and the Triad lock or as he was calling it before Cold Steel licensed it from him the, "Demko Lock" which makes this about like owning any small fixed blade.

I want Peter R to engrave the blade with "Eat Me!" We've decided on .210" CPM 3V.

Peter, go ahead and make that bad boy! I want one! I like everything about it. Lol!!! Based on Ed's line of work I think your circular G10 pattern would provide good grip. Could we add a Spyder hole? It would work better with gloves since Ed uses gloves.
Ed, here is the G10 pattern I was speaking of.

Ed likes to stab things and works in a hot environment so a coated 3v blade would be a perfect match for him.
I'm game if you are brother!

Ed, here is Peter's Spyderhole. I think it perfect for gloves!

Can you please identify the knife in your post?

Thanks,
Ray

Everything about this knife was made to my needs. Darrel is amazing.
