My old Recon Tanto is gone.
Last time I seen it was under my table next to it's leather sheath...

It's gone, simply gone, both knife and the sheath are gone. I searched everywhere and I can't find them anywhere. I asked everyone in the house if they maybe seen or took my knife and nobody has a clue.
It's not a tiny knife, that thing is huge and I don't get it how could it possibly get lost on it own.

I have another SK5 Recon Tanto I bought recently, but this one is simply impossible to find.

We had fair number of guests recently, and I'm away more often than not when guests are coming so I don't know what are chances that someone of them was willing to steal my old and beat up Recon Tanto...

My entire family has searched entire house since they dislike the idea of large sharp knife just laying around somewhere, but no luck.

Is it possible I took it somewhere with me and lost it without recalling it?

Do you own a dog? Sometimes they like finding new toys to carry off and chew on.

And I would never underestimate people's willingness to steal stuff. Especially a cool knife. But I don't know the people who have been in your home.

I've had a guest steal a knife before. A benchmade afo i got while over in Iraq in 2005. I was pretty pissed when it disappeared. And I know I didn't lose it. It was on top of my entertainment center and then it was gone. The problem with most people, even if they aren't knife people, they still like knives but don't know the value of them. They have no idea there are knives beyond what you find at Walmart so they just think everything is a cheap disposable blade. Itd be pretty hard to lose a big blade and its sheath...sorry for your loss. People suck.

You last saw it under a table and next to but not in its sheath? You didn't say how long ago you last saw it, but that's a weird place to leave a knife.

None of us can tell you what happened to the knife. Do you take drugs? Could you have kicked it under the table? As mentioned, anything on the floor is free game for dogs.

I've lost knives for long periods, and it turned out a cord on my jacket snagged it, or the seat belt, or the handle on a cloth tool bag. Someone could have stolen it or borrowed it and left it sitting someplace. Your mom could have put it away. But it could also be on you. Who knows.

Sorry you lost it, though. I hate losing stuff.

My dog is a guard dog, meaning - outside only.
Well, how old are you?
In my 20's...

It was there 3 days ago.
I thought my sibling or mother needed it for something.
It's usually there so it's easily available for me if I need it, and it's next to sheath as plain carbon steel would rust inside leather sheath.
My family also says they didn't use it or even seen it for days and I trust them, plus they'd go for the Warcraft if it was them who wanted to steal.

This is sadly what my mom tells me too.

We had fair share of people visit, and I was rarely at home at those occassions, some of those guests came with kids and so on...

I'm usually the one to keep an eye on kids going to my room, and also there was one accident with this knife in the past when my sibling accientally hit my cousin with it.

If many guests, did they have children or teenagers ? That's who I would focus on before adults. But obviously anyone could steal it, if that happened.

3 teenage girls, one 9yo boy and one 4yo girl... possibly more as my family doesn't mention me each visit from everyone (I'm not really interested to know that usually)...

EDIT: No, actually there's not more. That's all from kids and teenagers.
I thought it's 9yo boy, but my mom says it's impossible as he never even moved from his dad, he just played games and they weren't even here for long.
4yo girl is also very unlikley to steal such a large knife...

I went on an expedition to find my lost Mora Companion today. I have other ones. Heck, everyone in my family has one in their favorite color. I wanted mine. I just got a custom sheath for it and I could not find it. So I tore apart the whole house, wondering what could possibly have happened to it.

Well, it was folded up with my camp towels. Oops. I was trying to make room at the end of summer. I set it down as I was packing things away. I must have accidentally folded it into the pile while distracted. Good grief. I'm probably not much more than twice the OP's age...

So the question is, could it have gotten collected in with some other stuff? Could it be in a box? Could it have fallen and ended up in a weird spot? For instance, could it have fallen behind a radiator or into a boot?

Lock your stuff up, easy way to make sure nothing happens to it. That's a lot of people visiting during a pandemic :p

I've had a few things disappear over the years. Cheekiest one was when we had folks in the house for my elder son's funeral proceedings. We had some of his stuff displayed and a small Buddha amulet with a thin gold case vanished.

Also missing over time was a Thai granite mortar and pestle and a squid press. These were not small or light items one could pocket.

Hopefully your knife will turn up.

Most people are basically honest but, even the best of people can make a bad choice under the right conditions. That is why I say a lock will keep an honest person honest.

Nobody likes a thief. But, I can understand someone making a bad choice. Especially if they are young.

If someone is a thief and a liar, that is another issue...

Bring your dog inside

I’m gonna take a slightly different approach here. Have your parents ever asked you not to leave the knife unsheathed on the floor....or told you to keep it somewhere safe and away from curious hands?

I ask because as a parent, I wouldn’t want my son leaving a knife like that laying around, even in his own room. I mean, especially if we had little kids coming by with any regularity. So here’s the rub; if I had asked him a few times not to leave it out....and I kept finding my request being ignored....I’d pick it up and stash it away to teach him a lesson.

Lol, not saying that’s the case here....just throwing it out there because it was my first thought perusing this thread.

Regardless, I hope you find it. Really sucks to think someone may have pinched it while visiting. Good luck.

That sucks man. At least you’ve still got the SK5 model and the Warcraft. Keep it in a secure location next time. I keep mine in a stash in a private area in the house. My knife’s only in the open on my desk and that is if I’m studying on said desk.
