My Knives Just Arrived!!! Just Bought 18 Knives for Under $200, Good Buy?

I bought 18 (I recently got some more from eBay) to get a sense of what all these brands are like. And get a good range of their products. I did overbuy a bit and have sold a couple to even out some trades and sales on the exchange. But I kept most and am pretty happy with them.
But honestly they don't get so much pocket time. Considering I have so many and they are competing with my Chriss Reeves, Striders, Benchmades, Spydercos, Cold Steel, Kershaw, ZT etc.. That I have a hard time deciding to carry one of the Cheepo China knives when I can carry my Sebnza. But I still like them

On other forum, someone takes a Bee made blade and it measured 59.5 HRC. I just got myself Bee EL01 the flipper one. It's solid & like a tank. The sharpening angle is thick, but sharp nevertheless.

Do a google of Bee EL01, the first forum you get that's not BF should be it. On page 10 or 11 you'll find the HRC test.

i just went on that site and saw the post you are referring to. the person who posted that found the hardness test pics in bee's photo gallery, they didn't actually test the blade.

jimnolimit, maybe these last few posts have helped. The only people who question the quality of the SRM made knives are people like yourself you have never tried one. They cost app. $8-$20. Stop talking about what you don't know and buy one. Then come back here and thank us. Then sell your overpriced well known brand name knives that are not as good as these inexpensive SRMs. I realize it defies logic and past experience. How can a knife costing so little be any good ? I don't know. But they are. If you still have doubts, take the time and read this thread, every post, right from the beginning.
I got started on these because i bought a small Sebenza from a guy. He threw in a SRM knife for free. I used both. I liked the SRM better. I sold the Sebbie. I bought a bunch more SRMs and still had a pile of $ left over.

it does defy logic and i happen to be a skeptical person (in all area's of my life). the major reason i don't buy knives like these is because if i want an inexpensive knife, i can buy quality knives made by large, reputable companies that cost under $30 (some are even made in the USA). i could be wrong, maybe these knives are of good quality. i might have to order one and test it out for myself.

@jim,

Totally agree of being skeptical. Yes, why not give yourself a try ;)
Much easier than give myself a try of the sebbie :D lol

Didn't know if they pick it up from enlan/bee site ..

Down here where I live, any decent US made knife is sold at 2-3 x the price you can order in US.
As stated elsewhere, the only decently priced knife are these & SAKs.

Nothing wrong with liking a knife but they don't deserve a minute's pocket time, given the folders already in your current rotation.

@Jim,

Update from me. The Bee EL01 edge is sharp, but too obtuse. So I decided to thin it down. I found the steel is harder to sharpen, perhaps due to higher hardness?

I have plenty of Sanrenmu's, but this is my only Bee/Enlan. It defimitely is a pain to reprofile. I'm looking forward to making a burr on it :)
So far I'm not yet hitting the edge ..uniformly. At some places where burr does form, yes, it's a harder burr than when I did my other Sanrenmu's. Just an observation.

Note: I've been free hand sharpening for a long time, same stone, same way. I have taken into account the thickness & size. Have to say, even with more pressure, it's hard :D lol

what stone/grit are you using?

are you using the same stone/grit to maintain the edge as well as re-profile it?

I have two stones. No grit indicator, hard to get supplies like most US folks here ..

One is bought at a dept store that only stocked few, after it sold out, never found anymore. I bought it cause I saw some sushi chef here using it. Color: reddish brown.
This usually is the one I use to do major work (reprofiling), it eats metal fast. To use, it requires soaking in water (porous). Result is quite coarse, good for slice cut.

The other stone is natural stone bought from hardware store. This is the kind used by carpenter to sharpen chisel, wood planner (is that the right name?) and result in smoother finish, good for push cut. This stone is harder, but I suspect higher grit. Color, grey

I always use these two, but in this case, not able yet to raise uniform burr along the edge, I have not moved to second stone.

Sorry for derailing the topic. Anyone experience similar finding? That Bee/Enlan big knife series is harder than Sanrenmu 7 series?

Ok, I'll be honest, I was curious and picked up 4 of the sanrenmu/bee/enlan knives. 3 were ok, pretty decent for what I paid, which wasn't much. The fourth one was a sanrenmu 939 and that is a great knife for $15. It feels like a much more expensive knife and I can find no fault with the fit and finish. I think I'm going to buy a few more and give them out as presents :D

If buying all those budget blades floats your boat...what the hey. It's your money. These days it wouldn't be the direction I would go in, but I have in the past !

Currently I just see quantity, in anything, as more stuff to eventually get rid of. Of course I'm growing older, and there comes a point were you begin to say to yourself...."you know, I've really got enough stuff."

It's just my wife now saying "you got enought stuff". When I reach the point of thinking for myself ...."you know, I've really got enough stuff." I hope my wife is still with me to enjoy life together without all "that stuff" getting between us....
