My Knives Just Arrived!!! Just Bought 18 Knives for Under $200, Good Buy?

Oh, boy!

Looks like you'll be having some fun.

One question. The knife in the middle row, first on the left, what's that one called?

Thanks for the pic.

Thanks, I am enjoying them, already gave some away though. That one is the Elan M06-1

Elan is a Sanrenmu brand, as are the Spyderco and Kershaw China made knives. By buying these knives with one of the Sanrenmu brandings, you get the same or better quality as the ones with a USA name, and for a fraction of the price.
The more you use these knives, the more confidence you will get in them. I would certainly take one on a month long backpack trip. Yes, a month long.
These are solid well made knives that take and hold an edge as well as any knives that cost 10x as much.
And i got to this point of view after being into $500+ Customs, which are now impossible to justify even though i'm a knife addict.
If you still don't believe it, buy 1, just 1, and use it. Their quality control is pretty good so unlike many USA knives you don't have to buy multiples to get a good one.
If you are a business type person, nab the North American distribution rights for these knives. you'll do well.

If buying all those budget blades floats your boat...what the hey. It's your money. These days it wouldn't be the direction I would go in, but I have in the past !

Currently I just see quantity, in anything, as more stuff to eventually get rid of. Of course I'm growing older, and there comes a point were you begin to say to yourself...."you know, I've really got enough stuff."

Somewhere on BF, or a link, I saw mention of the Bee L05 or L05-1.

I could not find the mentioned distributor, so I over-paid on the auction site. It has a beautiful wood handle and very smooth action. Out of the box, I have never had a shaper knife, but I am always looking.

I wish you well with your bundle.

Thanks so much. Most of them came out of the box pretty sharp. And the edge angle was not too thick so with just a little work on the strop easily brought them too just where I like all my knives. Really sharp. I am pretty bad at sharpening so if they need much more work that a Sharpmaker and I strop I can't do too much. And that's why I like the 8cr13mov and the 440c that these knives came in.

Ps (allot easier to sharpen that the 1095 steel on those GEC"s that I sold you)

a bunch of inexpensive chinese made knifes for $200 is not my cup of tea, but what ever floats your boat. IMO there are plenty of quality knives being offered in the $15-$50 range right now. i have no personal experience with these knives so i have no idea if they are quality or not.

the Sanrenmu website states that the 8Cr13MoV blades are 56-58 HRC, i wonder if thats accurate?

Read all of this thread. These are quality knives with excellent quality control.
Those who use them (myself included) say "no problems at all" and edge holding is great.
There is no reason to doubt their reported Rc.

im not doubting the build quality of these knives because i've never held one. all im am saying is that because of the price of these knives and there target audience, i wonder how accurate the heat treat is. i doubt anyone has ever bought one and rockwell tested it. for all i know the heat treat could be very good, but i doubt it has ever been confirmed. if the knives works that's all the counts.

p.s. good knives can come out of china, the spyderco tenacious line is proof of that (as is byrd)

Sanrenmu makes the Spydercos, and Kershaws as well.
Price has very little to do with quality. Once you get beyond this hurdle, you'll find it applies to most consumer items.
"Target audience" ? who do you think that is ?
I think it's us. Discriminating Knife Knuts.
You are hung up on price. Get over it.

just because they make knives for spyderco and kershaw doesn't mean all their knives are of that quality. hyundai makes a $35,000+ genesis sedan, they also produce a $13,000+ accent. both are at two different price points and levels. these are $5-$10 knives, IMO the target audience is people who want a good looking knife for under $10, not a knife-nut. i might be wrong, these might be all that they claim (and more), maybe one day i'll buy one to find out.

p.s. don't take my comments negatively, they're not, just inquisitive. i tend to scrutinize just about everything.

On other forum, someone takes a Bee made blade and it measured 59.5 HRC. I just got myself Bee EL01 the flipper one. It's solid & like a tank. The sharpening angle is thick, but sharp nevertheless.

Do a google of Bee EL01, the first forum you get that's not BF should be it. On page 10 or 11 you'll find the HRC test.

I have more or less decided, after quite a bit of searching and knife purchases, that the Bee L05 / L05-1 is "my knife". I now have about 10 of them, and have them all over the place. I can pick any one of them up and deploy the blade without looking or thinking, and put it away just as easily. If I lose one, no big deal. Highly recommended....

L05 - Black handle hollow ground
L05-1 - Wood handle full flat ground

Seriously, just get one.

I am not a 'fan' of Chicom knives, but the Bee L05 is quite impressive in any language. Excellent fit 'n finish and very comfortable in hand.

jimnolimit, maybe these last few posts have helped. The only people who question the quality of the SRM made knives are people like yourself you have never tried one. They cost app. $8-$20. Stop talking about what you don't know and buy one. Then come back here and thank us. Then sell your overpriced well known brand name knives that are not as good as these inexpensive SRMs. I realize it defies logic and past experience. How can a knife costing so little be any good ? I don't know. But they are. If you still have doubts, take the time and read this thread, every post, right from the beginning.
I got started on these because i bought a small Sebenza from a guy. He threw in a SRM knife for free. I used both. I liked the SRM better. I sold the Sebbie. I bought a bunch more SRMs and still had a pile of $ left over.
roland

Sure. For the money spent, these are quality. You don't have to buy 18. Just get one, and imagined you've spent 70$ instead of 15$.

Roland's comment might be hard to believe for those having Sebenza but refuse to try these. On the other hand, to me who has never hold a Sebenza, also hard to believe :D

Howeever, I have tried many of these on top of my previous collection: CRKT Point Guard AUS 6, ColdSteel Large Voyager Tanto AUS8, BM 239S balisong, these are on par; some even better.

Still hard to believe these can be better than a 350$ Sebenza.
To eah his own

@jim, manage to find the rockwell test image on that forum?
