My modified CGBB13

I like everything about your concept. Only thing I would done different is adding a choil on the blunted edge, but that’s just because I can be pretty clumsy. Then, I got to the pic of your polishing....

Excellent work.

Thanks mate, I did consider a choil but I didn't want to remove anymore weight from the handle end. The way it is now, my pinky finger hooks over the top of the res-c so it actually feels pretty secure

That’s a neat trick, anchoring your pinky to the grip. I was thinking further out, where the blade begins. How weird would that look....

Looking forward to seeing it when your done.

So you polished using a hand held random orbital sander? Sorry about the questions but I have the same blade , stripped and ready to polish. I’m just having trouble starting:)
Thanks

No problem at all , ask as many questions as you like. I use a variable speed car polishing buffer with a 6 inch backing plate. The Velcro backed sanding discs can be found pretty cheap on eBay. I clamp the knife to my workbench, throw some water on the blade and get started.

I angle the buffer so I'm only contacting the blade with one side of the sanding disc to ensure all the scratches are going in the same direction

Then I'll slowly move back and forth on the blade until everything looks uniform. These sanding discs wear out quickly so I usually use 2 or 3 of each grit

Here's how she turned out. I didn't get too fussy with the polishing since this is gonna be a user blade for me, so it's not perfect. To get this finish on the steel took me around 1.5 hours total using the method I described.

Why did you put tape on the handle? To make it thicker, less slippery (which i'd find odd because that rubber is pretty tacky) or because the res C was making hot spots on your palms?

I wrapped the handle on this one because I have large hands and with so much weight in the blade, the handle just felt too small. With a lighter blade it's not really an issue, I have a 1311 that I don't wrap and it feels fine

Really nice work - I've kind of not been on board with moving the grind so far forward but if you think about it, what can you really use that area for? ... but now, seeing how you did that and how you described using it, it makes sense. So worst case scenario- you can always sharpen that area back up and nothing's lost.
That is certainly a great looking job of making it shine no doubt!

Although I applaud Ptac for his killer mods, I'm in the camp of not erasing any finished edge.

One thing that area can be used for is using the blade draw-knife style-- one of the best ways I've found to use my 1311.

Drawknifing bark off tent poles is very enjoyable...like carving ham for sammiches...mmm. :)

I too have large hands and a 1311 so i get what you mean, while it's perfectly usable i'd like a bit more space and meat on the handle  oddly enough, i'm fine with the handles on my scrapper 5 and my 311 (if they were a tad bit longer i wouldn't complain though...)
