My new code 4 (sebenza killer)

It was actually a gift from my dad several years ago, prob the best gift I have ever gotten.
oxman198, the best gift gift you ever got from you dad, and mom, was life. Everything after is but frosting on a your birthday cakes, may you have many more. If I can bequeath my Rolex, a couple bucks, and a serviceable blade, to my son, it will be a good investment payed forward. Okay, truth be told, I'm going to have a Brinks truck following me to my eternal rest because I'm taking it all with me.

This is why I haven't picked up a Code 4. I have passed on a lot of knives with metal frames. The otherwise good and great knives I've had, whose primary and sometimes only significant fault was they had metal blades that didn't offer a firm grip, have soured me. I usually want at least ONE side to be G10 or something grippier than smooth metal...

I never thought I would ever get an aluminum handled knife, but the code 4 looked so good, I got one also. The scales are grippier than I thought they would be, which for me is a good thing, I don't like slick scales. The knife is beautifully made, and a very good steel. I think this knife is a great value and a very nice looking folder.

Sound like a ZT guy.

I do own a couple of ZTs, but I carry one maybe 5 days out of the year. I carry a Cold Steel American Lawman a lot more, but not as much as I carry my Ontario Rat 1. Today I'm carrying a Spyderco.

Guess again. :)

The Code 4 is really sweet. I handled one. It is slick and very thin, but looks to be strong.

Exactly. There is some tension between the two but hey, Im all about..um, tolerance. :p

I'd say the Sebenza is more about...tolerance...than the code 4, which is probably slightly less...tolerant...Doesn't make the code 4 a worse (or better) knife...Just different personalities I guess!

With this hobby you'll be lucky if it's a radioflyer full of $1.00 bills ;)

That was exactly my point. This is a cold steel forum, and code 4 thread. I posted my code 4 with my sebenza, as in "the Code 4 is an awesome knife, AND I still love the refined and elegant Sebenza." Get it?

haha! And yes very true to the first part.

I make no attempt to divine which blades you prefer to carry. What you said about "at least one side being G-10" (the potion I highlighted in bold in my comment) reminded me of my ZT knife (0566) that has one side G-10 and the other, steel.

But the Code 4 can tolerate more... Ahaw ahaw haw...

Yep!!

That's fine! I wasn't being confrontational. The smiley face was added in an attempt to indicate my good will.

I just wanted to make sure that nobody thought I was bashing Cold Steel. I carry my American Lawman more than my Voyager or Mini-Recon, and the AK47 is a 'rainy day' knife at the moment. The common theme you'll notice in the ones I own is 'no slick scales'.

My best regards to you!

Nor I, fellow. I too know of widespread contempt for CS, and I did not for a second glean that from you.

I gifted an AK 47 to a friend. Thinking about picking up another. To this day, it's the tightest and snappiest Tri-Ad I've ever handled. And the the way it fits hand reminds me of a Falcata, one of my favorite ancient swords. Though CS Spartan seems to be closer in design.

I'm waiting on a Code 4 actually in spear point. I've long admired pictures displayed here, and I finally caved. The blade looks amazing and it dances in the light. I have plenty of G-10 models, Recon 1 XHP, Recon 1 XL, Ultra Lock Recon 1 and AK-47 and 2 Lawmans (previous model with AUS8A and the original model with the steel liners -- which is my EDC), this one will tickle another fancy -- the sleek factor.

Reminds me of one of those Mercedes in looks:

I wonder if it comes with a new knife smell. It wouldn't effect me even if it did, I only have 4 senses... :(

I am olfactory challenged as well. I've been losing mine over the past 10 years or so... not completely gone, but declining.

I'd appreciate hearing your thoughts on the Code 4, particularly whether or not the scales offer a firm and non-slip grip or not. I've had too many metal scaled knives that were slick to the point of being almost slippery - I can only imagine if I had to try to use them with wet hands or damp scales! so I am pretty much off them for the time being.

And I'll take that Benz over ANY of the knives...!

I have beefy hands, which should sink into the crevice between the scales pretty good. But for normal skinny hands, I'll let you know if sleek turns to slick. It probably will. But I knew this goin in. Definitely won't test the strength of the lock with my hanging off of it... yeeeow! Probably cut into my hand!

That gorgeous driving machine will cost you 315 Sebenzas (new currency) at base model.

I'll offer my $.02 on this (though I hope that Jonslaught will also share his thoughts when he gets his new Code 4). For me, the Code 4 handles are slightly slicker than a Sebenza's but not as slick as a Leek's. If I had to draw a direct comparison for feel, it would be the old Spyderco models with Tufram handles. The Code 4 aluminum's anodizing offers a small amount of resistance to friction--better than you get with bare metal or a coating, not quite as good as you get with beadblasting, and not even close to that of G-10.

Even so, the Code 4's ergonomics go a long way toward making it secure in the hand. It really does feel solidly in place when you grip it. Would I use it for hunting or fishing? No. But its light weight and incredibly thin profile make it one extremely comfortable EDC folder. And it slides into and out of the pocket much easier than G-10-handled models.
