A members post got me thinking.

I feel that maintaining a healthy active lifestyle, and staying in shape, close to your ideal body weight, is one of the most important survival skills. I see far too many folks on my ambulance that are trainwrecks and younger then me. (28)

I am by no means a picture of the perfect level of fitness, but im getting where I want to be. Its an uphill battle. I lift 7 days a week, jog, hike, and am an avid mountain biker. My diet is also 95% flawless. I work really hard to keep it that way, constantly adjusting things, reading books on nutrition, etc....

Well, I know some guys here want to get there too. Its sad when statisticly 95% of american adults havent lifted weights in the past month.

Heres what I propose.

A 6 month physical challenge.

Post your starting weight and pics, (please no nude shots, I dont think I can handle that :D), and make a commitment to change your diet and lifestyle.

At the end of 6 months, the person who has transformed their body and lifestyle the most, I will buy from KSF, a brand spankin new Bark River Gunny, and a matching firesteel. A super cool gift.(If you have a Gunny, Ill get you the equivelant, your choice) July 1st, to Jan 1st. It will be super cool to see all those new year resolution guys just starting, and for you guys to have a HUGE head start.

So, no shame, no excuses.

Who is down????

Very cool givaway, sounds like a great way to get people motovated. I'd play, but I can't be loosing any weight, I should probably try the other direction :D.

Guys there is such a thing as skinny fat. You can totally trannsform your body by packing on some lean muscle mass....

Im in ill try and get some pictures today, as far as weight, im not sure but I know im 20-30 lbs over where I should be.

I exercise most days (running/biking) but my diet it utter crap, that is the hardest part for me, I just cant turn down that bacon cheese burger... in fact i could go for one right now.

Great!!!

Dude its 90% diet. Thats the hardest part too...:grumpy:

Too many temptations out there....

Ha! yeah I know how that is...Ive become quite the cook since I changed up my eating habits a few years back.

That sounds like me. I'm 38, 6'2", 180 lbs. Not too bad size-wise, but I'm fairly out of shape and need to get some exercise.

I’ve already come to the same conclusion and actually started about 2 weeks ago. I’ve let myself go for far too long. I’m a mess and I know it, ain’t no lifting weights for me though, I’m so asymmetrical I wouldn’t know how to begin.

I’ve been hard on this old body, I’m 56 but motivated to do what I can. I’m changing my diet and cutting down on the calories. I’ve fallen off of two buildings the highest was 6 stories, the last one I broke my back, I’m asymmetrical because of a car crash that broke my neck at two vertebrae, partially paralyzing my right arm, it took out the nerves to my right shoulder and bicep, the same arm that had the radial head removed back when I fell of the 6th floor.

Well, I wised up a bit and settled down and took a job that I’ve had the last 26 years. Now a days I take it slow and easy, I ride a motorcycle and canoe, have a couple of boats, camp and do some walking. So I will walk and ride the bicycle, my major motivation is an upcoming deer hunt up in Tenn. this November, four of my buddies and I are heading up for bow season.

I’m quickly approaching retirement and I’ll want to spend my time in the woods and the swamps doing things that a full time job gives little opportunity to do.

I ain’t in the running for your fine offer but I will be working myself the best I can because I too agree survival is mind and body.

I am in the midst of doing this right now. I have a laundry list of health issues that is essentially 60-70% diet/weight related.
I work odd hours and eat at all the wrong times. I am extremely active and work too much, with very little health oriented activity (10-15 minutes a day of push ups, sit ups and stretching). I am at 244 lbs. and need to drop to 210 lbs.. I drink way, way too much and have trouble managing chronic pain from arthritis and multiple injuries.
So, my goals are developing as a 30 lb. drop, working less:rolleyes: and playing with the kids more with better cardiac activities, drink less, eat a regular intervals and work with my doctors in managing pain better and more healthy.
I am sure that this won't be as drastic as many others may present, but I'm doing it for my family and I, and posting it to be involved e-publicly. Good luck to all who need it.

Great contest! I'm not overweight but I could definitely stand to loose a couple pounds around the middle and turn em to muscle mass. Even a light cardio workout would be better than what I do now (quitting the cancer sticks would help too) and my diet could use some work. I'll take this challenge!

I'll get some pics and measurements together this week.

Diet is 90 percent. I just found out that I have reactive hypoglycemia. Low blood sugar. Ive abused my body all my life. Not eating breakfast, binge drinking, fried foods and snickers. Now I have to reverse it all. I am not obese, 6 foot two and two hundred lbs, but feel like crap. No stamina, profuse sweating, irritability, light headedness... I have every symptom except the headaches. Ive even lost my vision twice. My last couple of years as a firefighter, I found the heat and strenuous work to be more than I could bear.

I had one of those six hour glucose test done. Drank the sugar water. Three hours later my blood sugar dropped 100 points.

Im already motivated . Ill paddle a canoe or ride a bike but no weights. I hate lifting .

Great idea. I am always trying to get the incentive to get back in shape. You may have just givin it to me.
At this time I am 6'0 240lbs. My body likes to be at 200lbs so that will be my goal.
The winning will be being in shape. The Gunny will be a bonus!
BTW, that is my vest hanging out not my gut. I'm not that big!!!

Aweome dudes....

Glad to see so many motivated guys!!

Weights arent a requirement....Whatever you want to do, as long as it works!!

Great contest! Looking forward to seeing the results.

My biggest problem with dieting is portion control.

My biggest problem with dieting is portion control.
Many years ago, I lost 110 lbs in 8 months. I simply cut out as much fat as possible. I actually ate larger portions and more food but much fewer calories.
Thanks J for getting me thinking about this. I need it simply to make me happier and healthier.

I started getting in shape a little over a year ago when I joined track. By the end of this past summer, I was getting out of shape again (mostly due to running the same route every day, which got old fast). Joined cross country this past fall, got back in shape, and swore to never get out of shape again.

Since then, I've dropped my 3 mile time down to 20:30 (minutes:seconds), from 22:30 at the end of cross country.

I've also been getting more serious about working out my core and upper body in the last few months, mostly body weight stuff. Pushups, pullups, dips, situps, etc.

Also been working on making my diet healthier, working on increasing my self control when it comes to deciding I'm done "nibbling".

So really, I started your challenge about 9 months ago, but I'm still not where I want to be. I'll participate, but I'm not interested in winning the prize (not that I would win anyways ;) )
