My new contest.....

I'm in it to win it bro. You may as well ship me the knife now.

I'm about 198lbs right now and would love to be a fit 180lbs.

I'll get some pics together.

Great Jimi!!

The thing about vegitarian diets is the carbs. While most veggies are catabolic(meaning they use more calories to digest then thats in the food), its the breads and pastas. Stay with whole grain foods, orgainic foods, sweet potatoes instead of regular, etc...

Also protien is the building blocks of great health. Without meat, you might think of a protien powder supplement, and egg whites, skim milk to get some protien so you trigger your body to burn fat instead of muscle, not both. The thing is, bigger muscles incinerate calories, even while you are at rest, so I believe training the largest muscle groups is the key to jumpstarting fat loss.

Thanks, I am not going the change alone though, all the guys I jam with are vegiheads from way back , they have given me a tonnes of advice and great recipes, the mandolin player use to own an all womens arobics club with his wife in the 80's and was a total fitness freak, they taught 8 classes a day and all that good stuff, I have been eating alot of long grain rice and lentils and plenty of organic vegitables , aswell as beans and seeds/nuts . Most people that go vegitarian end up get sick simply because they don't know what to eat, I am very lucky to have the friends I have to support me and teach me good eating skills, its kinda neat because aside from rice I can grow everything I am eating ...THat is another reason I have gone to a meatless prepackaged mass produced life style to totally gain control over what I eat and drink, to many years of no control and it shows..

I am also going to school to be a Physiotherapist Assistant(PTA) and will be learning /doing all the exercises that you would have to use in a rehab type enviroment, after that I will be doing them all day at work, so there will be lots of lifting and pushing and pulling in my future.

Ill keep you guys posted ,

and I really like green micarta for my knife handles..
just to let you know......:D

Okay, i've seen EVERY diet work. SO I dunno from carbs and meat and crap. Me, I seem to do best going mostly raw paleo- that was my prime a while back and I was doing really good.

I have a friend here in Davis who dropped 120 pounds in one year- 320 to 200- on a $1000 bet with his brother, eating a strict raw food, no grains diet. some fermented pickles and such were allowed, but it was pretty strict- no dairy and nor grasses, no beans and no taters.

Me, I'm debating what I can do and keep feeding my kids meals- I don't get to cook for just myself. Guess they are gonna go hardcore paleo now.

time to go shoot a squirrel :D

Awesome Christof!!

I will start a thread every month on the first to share updates, workouts that are working, diets that are working, etc....

I think thats enough time to see change in pics, and to give eachother the boost we need to succeed.

I cant wait to see all the participants, and how everyone accomplishes the same goal, by totally differant means. Really cool stuff.

If I can inspire one of you to add a year on to your life through healthy habits, then that is well worth the price of the prize and so much more.

Good luck to everyone.

I started in Jan after taking 6mos off, I put back on 45lbs, Ive lost all but 5. Im still gunning to lose 25 more.

Remember. No Excuses. I actually have that on my fridge, and on my sunvisor in my car. It does help!! Not only in health, but other areas as well.

Wow, talk about motivation.. my only question is that can us guys outside the U.S Join? hell even if I cant it Sounds like a challenge. :D

Am 5'8" and a heavy 255, have been trying to go back to the gym for a long while. Used to lift in college regularly and play badminton a couple of times a week...then i graduated and work kept me busy .... and as you may already be able to tell I like to eat. hehehe... so my diet is not so good.... but it is getting better.
Anyway, pics to follow if am allowed to join.:D

I'm down...at 6'2" 270, I can damn sure use some weight loss...my goal is to get down to 230-ish again. I don't know if that's possible in 6 months, but I can get close I'm sure...

Try not to look at it as a diet and more as a life style change, diets come and go but good habits last , I am not looking to do like I have done in the past and lose weight just to put it back on, my wife and I have made a decision to live healthier, I love good food, and am finding ways to eat the flavours I love, and my kids 2,5,7 are liking what I am cooking, something I recently learned is good for you can taste good to you..

good luck guys,

Thanks J.

I'll participate too probably, my biggest problem is the lack of time at this point in my life....

I used to be a beach bum when I was younger, that kept me in good shape. When I was in college, I lifted and did random activities (Ultimate, MA dabbling, Rock Climbing etc) and then played Rugby for a bit (flanker). Once I graduated and started working I didn't slip too much, since I started to do more hiking again. But recently I've been studying for an exam and have been eating the same but not working it off as much. I'm not in terrible shape, but I could be BETTER and HEALTHIER .

5' 10", 210 lbs last time I checked, will post pics later.

I'll play, but I'm not going to be loosing any weight. I think I'm about 145 now, and cannot recall ever "lifting". This works both ways right?

we shall see. I'll get sexy pictures up latter when i have a camera.

Im in on this for sure. Since I have started school full time and work full time I've lost alot of what I had. I went from 7% body fat, to about 13. Not alot, but I would love to try and get back, or atleast to where I don't have a gut anymore. So I'll say I'm in for this contest. And I am in it to win it, besides, gonna see my gf soon, transferring to her school, so I got to look good for her. I'll post pics later tomorrow I suppose.

HOORAH! Now it's competitive! I can do this.

Yup, you can.

I am much more successful when I am competing against someone and for something. I get lazy and stop working out which isnt' a bad thing if it was just for a week at a time, but I fall off hard and stop for a couple of months and my diet goes to the toilet.

My biggest challenge, hands down, is portion control. I tend to over eat and eat quickly. This is a cool challenge that I'm looking forward to.

Jake - Before pics are a must right?

Count me in even if it is not for overseas, I have been looking for a reason to lose some weight. I have put on a stone in the last year and I am not liking it. I have done MA for years but due to family commitments I am reduced to 1 night a week now.

edit: forgot to say 5'8" (172cm) and ~220lbs (100Kg)

No pics but here are a couple of vids the second one has kukri pron in it :)

football 30Mb
gardening ~2Mb

edit : fixed the size for internet use.sorry for the sizes but I don't have a video editor - yet.

I think at 5'9" and 285 I have a lot of weight to lose. My goal is 200, that's where I feel the best at.

Welcome aboard, cute baby too!!! :)

Great idea for a conest J. But at the moment it's mass season for upcoming the football season. I'm 5' 6" 180 lbs. I've started the past 2 years for the Freshman and Soph. teams weighing 160 but it would hard to be 160 and play OL for Varsity. I don't want to enter but I'll take part with the rest of you. I'll post pictures and go into more detail later.
