My new EDC

Buy a handgun or AR, carry it around the house, and see if she tells you to buy another one for "something different" while you're at it. ;) Worth a shot.

Honey, don't need a knife anymore! :)

I'm actually looking for a 3"-3.25" or smaller blade. I do like the mini Begleiter but it seems hard to find.

I can't believe I'm recommending a SOG but the Terminus in S35VN looks good. There is room in the budget for a new pocket clip. Hopefully someone makes one. Too small of a blade tho? [URL='https://www.bladehq.com/item--SOG-Terminus-XR-Lock-Knife-Black-G--108532' said:

Yeah, I can't believe you recommended SOG either! :) I really dislike any knife with a "safety" lock. Maybe on a handgun, but never on a knife! :) But that's me.

Good luck![/QUOTE] Thanks!

Trying to stay in your parameters, and considering your desire for better action, and easier action on aging fingers, as well as appreciating the "thin" profile in pocket, the Giantmouse Clyde (ELMAX) or Hogue Deka (20cv), or even the Benchmade Bugout (s30v) all seem right up your alley if you're looking to upgrade into something more premium...

If you want to keep it more budget friendly, the Ontario Rat II is never a bad budget friendly choice

Also, if you really want a flipper, The Stedemon bg01 is a very similar knife, just a bit thicker and larger, and with a smoother action. And $100 more, same thing for the Viper Larius or Viper Ten, (which the latter is still one of my favorite folders I own).

The Buck Sprint Pro is another interesting option.

strategy9, thanks for the suggestions. I am amazed at the offerings Buck has since the last time I carried one which was probably 20 years or more ago. In fact my favorite knife as a teen was a Buck folder with white bone handles. I loved that knife. It was great right up until a cop took it away literally just because he could! It was a different time!

time for the carbon fibre leek - great cpm-154 steel, you'll love it

Personally, I think it's better to have a wife that challenges all of your knife purchases--the new blade becomes a naughty new toy.

I was perusing "knife porn" one afternoon and my wife stated that we had reached a level where we could spend money on "toys," no discussion, no rebukes.

That took all the fun out of it. I think I have purchased only one knife since then!

It's going to be hard to top a broken in Skyline, they only get smoother with time. If you can't flip it well you may adjust the pivot ever so slightly and make sure there's a very small amount of lube in the pivot.

There are several options out there, you might check out a few Spydercos if you have never had the privilege. I hated the brand until I had one in hand, then it was over. Once the spyder bites you there's no going back. They make several USA made knives just over the $100 mark, and several imports from Japan and China that are less expensive than that. They are the exotic cars of the production knife world, every curve and facet is designed to perform.

If Spyderco isn't your thing you might check some of the ball bearing flippers everyone is making nowadays. There's no break in period, they are glass smooth from the first flip. The Kershaw Bareknuckle is available in 20CV for right at $100, you just have to look for it online. If I'm able to sneak it by the boss lady that will be my next purchase.

Actually, it isn't a safety lock per se. It is their version of the Benchmade Axis lock. The patent of the Axis lock ran out so people are using a different version of it.

Not sure if that changes your mind at all. If you like the Axis lock, you might like the XR lock.

From your description I'm thinking Zt0450.... Not quite 100 but can be had on the marketplace for about that. I miss mine, great knife all around.

Sorry, my bad! No problem with Axis Lock so yes, worth another look! Thanks!

Such good suggestions from all of you. Thank you everyone!

Well, what did I end up getting? I did pre order a Massdrop x Ferrum Forge Gent because it spoke to me... carry me bro!!! But given that I am a creature of habit, whatever I choose needs to be available to purchase in the future. Not sure about the Gent, so, the wife is getting me a Benchmade Bugout which should be in production for some time. And... just in case... I will give my Skyline a facelift with some really sexy titanium scales from Flytanium. Just in case!! :)

Here she is in all her glory, my current EDC. Also have another just like her in case I break or lose this one. Again, thank you all for helping me! Great group of people here!

If your wife is telling you that you're too set in your ways, I suspect she ain't really talking about your preferred choice of pocket knife. :p

Still, it's very thoughtful of her to recognize your interest in pocket knives--that's really the important part. Let her gift you something she picks out and, whether you like it or not, carry it on your anniversary and/or Valentine's Day. 'Special Occasion duty.' :D

I think there are many knife nuts out there who would cheerfully part with all of their high end knives before even considering getting rid of a single gas-station POS that a loved one gifted them. I've been wrong before, though...

Back on track, though, I'd recommend a Spyderco Delica or maybe a Para-Military 2/3 if you want more choice in steel. Both are excellent EDC designs that you won't be afraid to carry and use.

Good luck, OP!

^^^^ This. I don't buy Chinese POS knives or anything that resembles a blade from a gas station but I do OWN them since they were gifts from family and friends. I have two rules that say I'll accept those knives from friends and family as gifts only (since they usually just don't know any better) and the other is I never sell or trade a knife that is gifted to me. As far as the OP. the Benchmade Bugout comes as close to the Skyline as any knife I've seen. I own both.

I would second the Hogue Deka. This is something “new” and different while still being smaller and relatively thin. I think the knife looks awesome. I’ve been trying to trade for one for a few days now but there are very few on the FSOT meaning people like them and keep them. I personally want the clip point version pretty bad. Out of every suggestion I’ve seen I’d take the Deka. I think you will like the change and appreciate the similarities in carry and compactness.

I also like the look of it. The only thing which would concern me is that there seems to be no liner or anything backing up the g10 handle... does the handle compress or bend when in use?

As for M moseng - enjoy your s30v skyline - I really like it, it neither looks old or tired to me
