My new EDC

Very nice Jeff. I've been looking at those and I'll be interested in your thoughts on it. The price tag could be a little lower though :(.

My EDC are a SAK Trekker ($25) left pocket, a SOG Flash II ($50) right pocket, an Izula ($50) necker and a RC4 ($100) belt knife. = $225 That’s 4 knives @ half the price of the SF ! I really like the SAK and SOG for small pocket knife tasks & easy to resharpen also. I have a SOG Flash I that I bought almost 19 years ago and it still works well (quick release & razor sharp also) but the pocket clip did break.
I'm surprised you did not buy a Strider Folder, for the same $. I read that they are the holy grail of pocket knives!? I don't wipe with $100 bills & $425 would buy me alot of TP ( & RC knives :D )!

onadoo2000 I know what you mean about the Strider knives. But oddly I see quite a few on the sales forum and wonder why people would sell them so often . I have heard good things about them but the one complaint is that it is a bit too thick for delicate slicing. I also have a SOG Flash I and II and both came shaving sharp right out of the box, still are for that matter.

Maybe after receiving the Strider they came upon the Rat Cutlery website and saw all the beauties they could ever wish for ( @ the price of that one $500 - 600 folder). Wouldn't that suck ?:)?

Do people actually carry Sebenzas?

jip! I have been carrying mine on hikes and field trips the past four months. Handle is getting pretty scratched and have used it for skinning. I carry the small regular. Nothing wrong with a high dollar knife. to some it appeals to others not. To each his own. I just dont understand people buyng an expensive knife (other than collectors) and not using it. (I need a fix blade though for the hikes etc. Mine is getting old and don't carry it that often antmore)

Picked this up at Blade. I shot this photo before putting it in my pocket as my new EDC. I plan on carrying this one for a while to see how I like it. It will be making our upcoming Colombia trip to work with the Junglas.

This is replacing the Benchmade Rift that I've been testing for the last 6 months. You'll have to read Tactical Knives magazine to find out how I liked the Rift ;)

Please excuse my ignorance, but who makes this knife?

Doc

I'm a big fan of that knife. I'm not sure how it'll do in the jungle though...

Great looking knife - use it in good health!

Really big fan of Surefire lights but havent yet had a chance to handle their blades.

Just curious, does Surefire offer the same no quibble warranty on their knives as they do their lights?

There is no "holy grail" of knives. There are many different expensive knives that are popular. Many of these do turn up on the Exchange frequently because there are users and there are collectors. The plain jane Striders are out there getting beaten on, and the special editions get turned over whenever the owner thinks he can get his money out of them.

By the way, the Surefire knives are designed by Steve Ryan. I have an Alpha that I've got to get around to having STR turn into a framelock for me. THAT will be a truly evil knife. :)

The handle looks pretty clean to me. The one design defect I see is the glass-breaker. I hate anything sticking out like that, poking me in the heel of my hand when I palm the knife. And a knife that small will get palmed.

I've been looking at the Rift and Kulgera and cant figure out which one I think I would like more.
I've got a Kulgera, and wish I'd bought s Rift instead. The Kulgera is a piece of art, but too fragile for any serious use, more in the mould of a 'gentleman's folder'. The grip is also disappointing. My current favourite is the H&K BMHK14205 - makes the Kulgera feel like a toy...

Lovely! Let us know how you like it.

I saw that and was instantly attracted to it, but haven't come up with a good enough reason. Give me one! Noticed the integrated tools, are they worthy or worthless? How's the build in wrench/wirecutter? Does the glass breaker poke out too much?

I've heard some wonderful things about SF knives, and I'm a die hard "fan boy" of their flashlights systems.

Sweet knife Jeff. I've read lots of good things about those. Has lots of uses. Ironic that you posted this today, because I'm wearing my Surefire T shirt!

You can take the glass breaker off and put screws in place.

I hope to see the Rift review. I currently have 2 "expensive" folders, a Kershaw Blur and my EDC a BM Griptillian. (Neither in the SF or even Spyderco price range)

I really, really like the Griptillian, and am curious if you liked the Rift as much as I like my Benchmade.
