My new EDC

For me, the cost of this knife would only be justified by being "highly collectable" or "extreme hard use". I can't see this as either. It's not a Busse and it's not a William Henry. Benchmades make excellent EDC's (BM940 in pocket now). The Rift is excellent too.

Why do you classify Busse with hard use folders?

The knife is the same league as Strider/CRK/Hinderer. I don't see why people (especially on a knife forum) are complaining about the price point.

Gotta complain about sompin', might as well be prices.;)

Not complaining. I just prefer fixed blades for more heavy duty tasks, and folders for ease of carry. At the $400 price point, that's getting into the "collectable" range of folders for me.

Diddo on the giant RAT chopper as well.

I appreciate well-built, American made product. Busse is first class as well as Chris Reeve. The SF folder with its well built, tough-as-hell construction, great design and many useful tools doesn't qualify as worthy because of the price, but a frame-lock Sebenza with no bells and whistles does? Go figure. I just thought I understood knife folk :D

Go figure.

Jeff, the SF is an amazing piece and I'll be interested to get your impressions of it, but remember, you're talking to RAT people. ;)

These are the folks who buy what RAT sells, including the philosophy of building "a product designed and made in the USA for a price the average person can afford."

So a $425 folder is, in the words of Bob Uecker, "just a bit outside." ;) Sticker shock (hiding behind various smoke screens) is gonna happen.

Like I said, I think the SF is still the coolest -- then again, I'm the guy who cheaped out on the firesteel. :D

I understand all that but the SF knife obviously has nothing to do with the RAT line even though I posted in our forum. I don't ever see RAT doing anything that would cost that much. My point being is there are folks who buy 400 dollar knives, and I suppose they use them in the field? If so, what makes the SF any different than any other 400 dollar knife? Nothing.

Got it, Jeff. You'll get no quarrel, no objections from me. ;)

Jeff, I'm still fawning over my new RC-6 so don't get me wrong - I'm a fan. I'm just always on the lookout for value. That knife appears to be an outstanding knife, but there are alot of outstanding knives around. I'll be interested in reading your review after you've carried it for awhile. You guys know your stuff and your opinion will have weight. and value.

Thanks for the great knives, too, and C'mon with the HEST already.

Curious as to where you're off to in Colombia? My wife is from Bogota, I lived there for awhile and have lots of trips there under my belt.

If you spend any time in Bogota or Medellin, try the ajiaco...potato/chicken soup served with rice and avacado...soooooooo good. Really tons of the food there is off the hook. A cup on hot chocolate with bread and cheese is heaven.

Bogota it is. At least we're basing out of there and will be visiting several out-posts inside the country.

Great! Don't know if you know the city...

Eating at Sopa de Mama Postres de mi Abuela is great, they are all over the city...Towards the center Carrera 7 Calle 20ish La Florida is an institutuion (travel light in the center...there are goooooood pick pockets there)

Oma Cafe has a great Coffee...it's easy to eat well in the city, the food is all great...Colombian women are incredibly beautiful...there's a lot of road construction going on- driving around is rough! Colombians are great people...Bogota is a little different though...hope you have some good contacts there

Enjoy!
