Feels great in the hand, not too big and not too small.
2 1/2 inch blade, 6 1/2 overall. Steel is "high carbon stainless," which is 4110 (The close equivalent is 440A). holds a good edge but a bit tough to sharpen I find.
I realized when holding it that even a 4 inch blade can be too long, what can a 4-5 incher do that this can't? Other then kitchen duties this can handle most tasks I put it up to, though admittedly all I did so far was shave some hair and cut up a baguette.:o
Fit and finish is, as ever, perfect, hand crafted not far from my childhood home to boot.
Post pics of your grohmanns, and well you are at it, you're smaller fixed blades as well.

Great looking knife, Liam! I've been admiring those myself. What is that folder laying in the background in the one pic?

It's a little buck 055, I thought it went well with the "small and mighty" motif.
I have a nice western flat stock camp axe that will go well with the two, overall length 11''. (I guess it's my tiny trio)

One complaint with the Grohmann is the drop in sheath, it is well made but a bit cumbersome to insert and remove the blade, but it will loosen up a bit.

Great combo! I like that Buck 55...never had an opportunity to handle one myself.

I like the shape of that one. I wish the handle had more contouring, and I don't like reading things off a blade. But its got a real pleasing shape.

I know, I don't mind it saying Canada, but why does it say FLAT GRIND in huge letters?
The buck 55 is a laser beam, I am always impressed with how sharp bucks can get, for a budget knife.

Liam,

I was fondling more Grohman's today at a retail store. Can't decide which one - leaning towards an original #1, but that blade is sweet.

I just found my old, old grohman a while ago. I remember having this knife during the frequent camping trips as a little boy. Brings back fond memories.

It was covered in rust, cleaned it up a bit, but didnt want to remove all that steel to get rid of the pitting. Sure do like this knife, has a great feel in the hand, the narrow neck makes it ideal for a pinch grip which is great for precise tasks.

Hey Liam, yeah the sheaths come tight, my #4 was tight fitting but it work its self in, great knives though Grohmann's, cant wait to get another, and that 104 might be it. ;) :D

That's the #1 I was referring to - looks full of memories.

I'm also thinking a Trout/Bird would be a good introductory fixed blade for my kids. Thoughts?

i've never tried a grohmann always wanted to but just never got around to it. guess i'll have to now.

I have the Grohmann #1 in both the Fixed blade and the folder. I love them. I will get a picture of them soon.

A folder is in my future as well, somone posted pics of one a week or two ago.
I had a #1 but the handle didn't sit right, traded it in for a survival, which was a great knife but I never used much for some reason.

The mini skinner looks like a perfect personal utility. You could probably get Normark kydex for it easily. I think he does Grohmann's kydex anyway.

I got a Boat Knife recently. Does great in the kitchen. The trout and bird would probably be better, since it should be bit thinner.

brians, it would make a perfect beginner outdoor knife for youngsters. Very light, narrow handle for a good grip for them. And you would be starting them with real quality, not a cheap throwaway.

I don't think he makes one for the mini skinner, but I was going to trade him a survival for a few sheaths. Does he only trade for knives he needs to make sheaths? I may be too late, he has sheaths for the survival.
We were going to trade like 2 years ago but I sort of forgot.:o

I gave my dad the bird and trout for christmas...haven't heard any performance reports, though. Always kind of wanted to buy one and finally got around to it - then gave it away!
