My new original knife design

I think you're ready way to much into what I said. I'm not trying to come down heavy on what you said. What I was trying to say is that BRK does replicate their fair share but it would't be fair to put the Blackjacks on them too since that isn't their brand.

Fair enough. I just know the level of personal pride Mike Stewart takes in creating those "homages" for Blackjack. So I dont think anybody is twisting his arm to make them. (Just like with kydex sheaths and blade coatings.)

And like I said before...who's knocking him for doing it? So we may both be guilty of the same thing.

I hope to own a real Bravo1 or 1.25 some day.

It looks like you'd have a good start to see if that size and shape fits your needs. Should be a fun little project that won't break the bank.

The nice thing with the ramps is that they are easily taken off if you don't like it. I would try to file or dremel in the jimping though, otherwise you wouldn't really be getting the same grip when you hold it.

Thats the thing thegimping is on the backside yet the site shows the thumb to be used on the front side? I will possibly try and put some non aggressive gimping on it

With any knife there are several grips that could be used. If I were to keep and use the ramp it would be with my thumb sitting on the spine and pressed into the back of the ramp on the jimping.

A Bark River "Canadian Special" is a very poor imitation of a Grohman. I like a lot of Bark River knives but this one is too ugly for me.

IMO, there are only a finite amount of designs that can be created before they appear to be "duplicates" or "copies." There are some that are obviously unique but outside any particular 'uniqueness', there are only so many adaptations that can be made to any particular design.

I find it interesting that the entire new world including the mountain men and even jim bowie got by with 1/16th of an inch kitchen knife.

Its just interesting that we debate knife design and materials quite a bit and its good fun and i like it but the people who lived and dued by their blades usually had nothing more than a cheap butcher knife

You lost me ?

Doug

I think what he's saying is that ever since 'man' was able to smelt and forge metals into "working" knives [Axes, machetes and swords are separate classes, et al] weren't made form "monster steels," used 'superfluously over-engineered' locking systems or overly thick spines. Blades were often made in the 1/16" thickness class [look at an Old Hickory butcher knife, Opinel or Boker Tree brand folders] from butcher to pocket and for the most part, never really had an "issue."

It's only the "Bowie" and "bayonet" class blades that were 1/8" or thicker - but many of the "mountain man" era blades were thinner in profile than what you typically find today......and they worked just fine.

Thanks you guys, understood.

Edit: It was mostly the Jim Bowie post that had me befuddled.
Although we'll never know for sure, I very seriously doubt JB's Bowie was 1/16" thick.
Sorry for the confusion/interruption.

Doug

I have a great respect for Mr wako on YouTube and he is who got me interested in bark river. He must have 20k US dollars invested in Blades

I agree with this. Thank you.
