My New Strider SMF.

I have the exact same SMF, new lock up and same steel. I too was pleasantly surprised by how solid and well fitted it is.

Thats a great pic! Thanks for posting it.

I have been very happy with mine

Thats good to know. Im liking it so far with the minimal use that I have done with it.

Very nice knife, thanks for sharing the pictures.

I just got my first Strider, an SnG, and I love it. I want another one, but will be more particular next time - a stonewashed CPM154 SnG with black handle and flamed Ti....and black stop pins!

I love the look of that one. I couldnt agree more!! Thats what I want also. The CPM154, flamed Ti and Black stop pins. I think that is a really great looking combo.

Love SNGs and SMFs, but always prefer to edc the CC version, just feels a little better in my pocket :) Congrats, great knife.

Ya know... this thread is making it very difficult to not buy one!

Gizler00--my sng is has the tiger stripes and flame ti... and yes, pretty cool--BUT, I'll be getting an uncoated blade for my SMF too. I may go with the ranger green over the brown, and I have been thinking about the tanto, but heard mixed reports on the grinds and angles. In any case, I'd love to see pics of yours at work when the time comes. Congrats again!

Haha. Sorry about that. That is how I felt the other day when there was another strider thread going on in the general discussion. I am not a big fan of the Tanto blades, But I can respect their cutting ability.

I loved my SmF in the hand. In the pocket was my only beef. Since my knife is in my pocket WAY more than in the hand I find the SnG to be a better compromise. It's so funny how I go back and fourth on which handle scales I prefer though. I've decided GG if light weight is priority (which is almost never) and Lego if I'm likely to use a knife that day. Either way, the SmF/SnG/PT platform will always be of the best overall knife designs ever. In its genre, it has never been outdone for the price.

I hear you on the size of this big bastard. I would really like to hold one with the DGG configuration to see the difference.

I couldn't agree more.

The strength to weight ratio is incredible, combined with the surprisingly ergonomic shape the knife is a real performer.

I wish more makers used a 1 piece G10 frame/backspacer for the non-lock side.

While I have no real experience with these knives, I agree with you on the one piece G10/backspacer. I think it is a great design that saves weight while being strong. I handed the knife to my wife, and she could not believe how light it was for the size of it.

I went outside for a few minutes to clean up some stuff that was left in the yard, and decided to test out this blade on some wood I had laying around. Now, I need to ask the previous owner what angle he made this thing. It cuts great for a larger, thicker blade.

Some Glamor shots.

I started to try and shave down this piece of wood I had laying around. I am not sure exactly what it is, but I know that its pretty hard.

The SMF had no troubles at all taking it down to a fine point in a matter of seconds.

Then tried to do a quick Ghetto feather stick.

Overall, this quick 5 minute experiment turned out better than I expected. Again, I do not know the edge angle that the previous owner put on this with his wicked edge. Im also not sure how I will be able to maintain that edge to the same level. I have a DMT aligner with the diamond stones and a sharpmaker, as well as other various diamond stones to work with. (I really need an edge pro, wicked edge, or worksharp)

The only noticeable things worth pointing out are the fact that this Lego configuration might cause some uncomfortable hot spots for some people. I could see how this would agitate the palm of my hand if used for extended periods of time doing some wood working. This is really not an issue as it would not be my primary knife for that kind of task. I would pick a better tool for that job, like my BK16, Izula, Izula II, etc.... you get the idea.

This knife fits a role for those that need an EDC workhorse that can perform those daily tasks, such as opening mail, food prep, cutting up cardboard, but also has the ability to baton if necessary or in an emergency situation. Also able to do heavy prying if necessary. I imagine being stuck in an elevator and having to pry the door open. I could see myself jamming this beast in there and going at it. or trying to pry open a suck shut wooden door, or car door. Know what I mean?

I do not think of this blade as one that I would solely take out into the woods for my primary, (again, would have another suited fixed blade for those tasks), but would definitely serve well as the backup to those blades. Or one that I would have on me in my pocket just because its seems so good at doing everything else that I need. And in that slim chance that I am in a situation where I need to use this thing super hard, this will probably hold up very well.

Just some quick thoughts. I still really want to test this thing out. I might try and go get some squirrels or rabbits and try to process them with this blade. (again, I am thinking survival situation, where you are stuck and only had one blade on you.) Making fire and processing food with that single blade.

Anyhow. Thanks for reading, and sorry for my lengthy mini reviews. I tend to be long winded.

Great review. I will read again after work to retain the information.
You should see the SNG that came in today with the cerakote PD1 Blue liner gear. I will put some pics up later with a review too. Rock solid, early lock up. Smooth and dang. Just love it. The cerakote is gorgeous.
Thanks for starting this sweet thread.

Matt

Post up those pics!!!!!!! Wait, maybe not..... It might make me more tempted than I already am to get an SNG!!!!! Ahh what the heck, I want to see it!!!!!!

One noticeable thing I forgot to mention is that under hard cutting with a lot if pressure, the lock engages slightly further and I cannot disengage the lock with one hand. I have to use my left hand. This does not bother me. Rather makes me realize that it's locking up harder and not going to fail that much more.

I need to finders stuff to cut. Maybe I'll go through a car hood! Haha.

Totally common. It will break in better. Both of my SMF did that. Put some sharpie on there it will help.
Pics tonight after dinner. I am excited for the photo shoot. I have never had a knife I liked so much.

Ya know. I can't remember what angle I did it at. The marker trick always works. I did make it a lot sharper of an angle than stock. That's why it cuts so good and I also sharpened on the wicked edge.

That thing is a beauty. Jay is a Great guy!!! I got both my griptillians a from him.

I love the look of that!! How did I miss that one!!!!

He just got it in Saturday and saw I was looking for one, and he just happened to need tires. So it was not yet listed. I just lucked out I guess.
Were in the same club here. Enjoy that puppy. They are a blast to use. Smells like poopie. Diaper time! We are playing kitchen tonight. Me and the girls.

Matt, Thats great!! Glad you were able to pick that one up. I am really considering selling more of my blades to acquire another one.

I dont miss the Diaper days! My twins are almost 4 now, and crazy as ever!

Definitely in the strider club now and Im glad I made the choice. The more I mess around with this thing, the more I like it and want to use the heck out of it. Its definitely a unique design. Like Alex (JR88Fan) said, there is nothing else like them. I get that now. They are like nothing I have ever owned in the past.

Glad you like it bud! You're were a pleasure to do business with!

Thanks man Likewise

I typically use the Sharpie trick when I sharpen. I need to get a better setup for sharpening my blades.
