My next 3 knives....

Sounds like you may have a bit of a speed addiction. I was a novice tinkerer in college and have never been fortunate enough to have the time or the money to get into building up a car or spending any time at the track. That's kinda why I got into knives.... considerably cheaper than cars.

When I had that GP I really wanted to do an M90 supercharger/turbo hybrid (forced induction not froofroo battery crap) build up and do some drag racing. Maybe some day.:o

Back to the knives...... I suspect my next three will be the OD1, a ZT0300 and a packrat. Of course all of that is assuming something shiny and vintage doesn't catch my attention. :D

You don't need to do all that to get retarded power out of a 3800 S/C motor.

I actually did an article about the GP GTP on my website, not sure if I've linked there before. If this is a forum violation, I'm really sorry! I figured you would find this interesting, though.

Teh Car Blogz - Pontiac Grand Prix GTP

basically though, I used this car as an example:

Drag Times - Pontiac GP GTP

he's making 372whp and running 11.7@114 with: Eaton M90 GenV, L36 pistons/rods, ZZP Stage 4 heads, ZZP XPZ camshaft, TOG headers, custom midpipe, custom ECU tune, 2.8" pulley, ZZP Trans build/ Protorque torque converter, 3.69 final drive, and an L36 flywheel with M/T Drag slicks. Considering the mild nature of this build, the GP GTP represents one of the best values in the used performance market, IMO.

anyway, on with the knife nerdery! I'll try not to let my car nerd come out here all the time, that could get dangerous.

My last washer repair cost $129...the part cost $12. Ridiculous.

I just repaired the washer...............by buying a new one.

Our cheapo first washer cost a whopping 300 bucks.... care to guess how clost to 300 bucks the repair bill would have been.

As for home ownership.........I got: :D:):o:confused::(:grumpy::mad: sorta in that order. And just for the record mine is 70 years old and held together by something like duck(t) tape and termites holding hands.... Of course, I am kidding about the termites... I have yet to make the final call on the duck(t) tape part of that statement, but, I am leaning a little closer to it every day.

The funny thing about older houses is that they are usually beautiful and seem like a great investment.... until you spend some time with them, then you realize all the screwed up things about them.... kinda like women :D

I tend to agree with you on this statement, but in the end I decided it would be cheaper and easier to just let ZZP run a turbo through the supercharger, upgrade the heads and cam and install an HD trans. As much as I like superchargers.... turbos just appeal to me.

Every vehicle I have bought in the last few years (and the mods I wanted to do) have somewhat of a correlation to the GM turbo car years. I bought the GP because I have always wanted a Buick GN and love the sound and feel of that turbo 3.8. I bought the truck b/c it kinda looks like a GMC Syclone..... and the straight five beggs to have a turbo slapped on it.

No boost.... are you a GP guy or just a car nut.

My final statement on this thought has to be that although the GM 3.8 is a "V" engine I would have to liken it to the American version of a 2JZ Toyota engine.... a block and stock internals that are capable of handeling boost that would completely destroy just about any other engine......num num num:D

A truer statement has never been made.

Interesting comparison on the Toyota block. I had an old Supra TT with the 2JZ-GTE block. Wicked fast but handled like a shopping cart, no matter how much I did to it. The TT was great spooled up, but it had nasty lag, even with a few dyno pulls and a custom tune or two (best hot dyno run was 865 HP to the ground). However, I found a cure: a 75 hp shot of NOS programed to cut off as the turbo pressure built up! :D

I miss that car, too :(

My stock Matrix puts a solid 115hp to the ground. It's amazing. :D

That's about what my Ranger puts out. It'll light the tires up in all
but 5 gears!! :D

Now with my crotch rocket, that's a different story. Whack the throttle,
and it's a pure adrenalin rush.

sparchitect - I'm just a car guy, with a particular appreciation for sleepers. Grand National, Sy/Ty, 20AE Turbo T/A (remember that one? 3rd-gen F-body with a GNX engine??) etc are all favorites - basically if you can make it very fast and it still looks slow, i'm interested.

Best example of this - 1992 Dodge Spirit R/T. Had a 2.2L I4 with Lotus-developed dual overhead cams, 16v setup, made 227bhp and ran to 60 in under 6 seconds - remember, this is in a 1992 Dodge SPIRIT!

I have to say, my five banger in the Jetta is begging for a turbo as well. 2.5L, 20v, 9.5:1 CR, chain driven cams, stout bottom end, and it's all low-end torque and no top end right now :( I wish i had the cash sitting around, C2 has a GT28RS ball bearing turbo kit that makes 300whp@9psi on stock internals... 3rd gear would murder mustangs.

:)

Dude you have no idea what those snowflake wheels on the Spirit R/Ts did to me when I was a kid. I drooled all over that car. IMO the best Chrysler products made in the last 2 decades all had mitsu turbo engines. When I was 18 I found a Conquest on a car lot....the guy only wanted 1200 bucks for it.... I went to pull the trigger only to find out that it had been broken into and stripped the night before.:( Last time I looked for a Conquest the only one I could find was a cherry TSI.... the dude wanted 18 grand for it.

This all makes me want to sell my truck and a kidney and buy a 2JZ Supra targa.... have you guys seen the prices on those. Any thing under 150k mi will set you back 20,000 bucks. :(

On a serious note......... all this talk of modding goes to show that within the Kershaw community there is a sincere interest in hop up parts from the factory. Thomas....Tommie.... you have your proof. If you build a turbo kit with intercooler and 3 inch cat back system and 4 piston calipers for our SKYLINES (;) lame car guy joke) we WILL buy them. Heck, some JDM spec parts for our Lahars and KAI products would be nice

(I only wish I could see the look on the face of the guy that googles "Skyline turbo JDM spec" and turns up this BFC post....LOL:D)

hahaha Skyline Turbo JDM OVERNIGHT PARTS FROM JAPAN WE'LL RUN 11'S!!!

SPXTrader: a Mustang, not a COBRA..

My Mustang is still a Mustang...It just has a Cobra on the intake and SVT stamped on the valve covers and a few little chrome snakes on the side! :D

Well, not really FrankenStanged, but not exactly stock either! Just a few little mods...FR500 intake and cams, P&P heads, 4:30 gears, Bilstein suspension, Brembo big brake kit F&R, long tube headers, FR500 cat back, Aviator fuel pump, and a little dyno work...that's all. ;)

I'm surprised DV...I figured you would buy top of the line THEN upgrade it :)

Is there a Shelby or Roush in your future?
