My rant...

I do that but then the contest thread is still cluttered with the 1st post of BS & then their entry :D

I know this isn't an end-all solution, but if post limits are possible, they wouldn't have 1 BS & an entry, they'd be locked out after whichever came first.

Obviously I am not a mod and don't know how the system works on that end, just trying to improve for all.

That said, I do see this as a difficult thing to control as you're essentially battling an individuals learned nature (good or bad, bad here) and their comprehensive of directions (and/or initial reading of those).

K. Brain off now. :D

Bottom line is we simply want to find a way to enforce the rules better. We like giving away stuff in contests because it gets people out there doing something and we all learn from them, so it's a win-win for everyone that has interest in skills. We just don't like the fact that this turns into a hassle or full time job for the mods. So, if folks would simply respect the rules and the mods then all would be well ;)

I like the entries to be viewed by everyone as to where everybody can see the entry & maybe learn something in the process and that is what the contests are about ...learning and trying something new.

I get enough complaints when a winner is picked (how come he/she won instead of...) I get those after every contest via PM or email.....if entries are to where only mods can see it complaints will be more so

Instead of complaining about who won and why, people should just be happy that you fine folks are willing to participate, help us out with advice, and take the time to do these contests. People need to think about the fact that you don't have to do this stuff and be happy that they get to participate.

While that is appreciated, it's not even that. Like I said, we all learn from these contests because most of them are skill based. So, the few that don't follow the rules just make it bad on the whole froum here. We've got gear to give away, that's not a problem, and the mods love to take the time to do this, so that's not a problem. We just want to do it because it helps everyone as a group. So, all we're asking is follow the rules, nothing more.

you know, I would love to win a skills contest one of these days, but mostly I see them as a challenge to myself with a chance at cool loot.
I like to look at the other posts, because I learn from them.
When someone else wins, I'm not out anything, so I don't see a reason to be upset.

On topic with the OP :)
I don't see a problem with hitting folks with a 30-60 day red chicklet for chatting in a contest thread or even a yellow (warning) chicklet for failure to follow instructions. (like posting multiple entries or not following the contest instructions)

I'm tracking. Sometimes I go off on little rants. In my line of work not following directions gets people killed. I know that isn't the case here. But it ruins a fun learning experience for us.

My brain is hurting.

In a forum of primarily adults to get free gear from a company that gives it away like it’s Tootsie Rolls, reading a post shouldn’t be that hard. They shouldn’t have to complicate the process by changing the whole format of the contests.

Here is a thread, here are the rules, post your submittal only per the rules. Don’t follow the rules, DQ-ed (this has happened to me :D). If you have questions, make a separate thread. Is it honestly that hard? They’ve even gone so far as TTD did to make the contest 4 SENTENCES!

There it is in a nutshell.

I will be infracting those who don't listen with a warning 1st. ... People just follow the K.I.S.S (keep it simple stupid) rules and the contest will flow again and we all shall move Forward !

We give a way a LOT of stuff on this forum. All we ask people to do is read the OP and make sure they follow the rules. Well, obviously people can't follow rules so we are ceasing all contests for the time being. This last contest Tony started got three comments/questions back to back. In other words, they totally ignored Tony's post. Not acceptable, IMO, especially since all we're trying to do is give shit away. If it hurts the feelings of those I just called out, so be it. When we start new contest then I'm going to see if we can give BFs infractions for those who DO NOT read the OP and follow the rules. I will leave it up to Tony and Shotty to discuss when contests will start back.
There is no need to be nice about it. People who can't follow simple contest rules don't deserve to own the knives that would be given away.

What's the old saying?; you can lead a horse to water but you can't make it drink.

I honestly think that some of the people on here have to have their mothers log them onto the computer, because obviously their reading comprehension skills are lacking.

I know you guys and the mods have to deal with a bunch of BS and I for one wouldn't want the job. I like the KISS approach; post the rules, and if someone can't follow them, they don't deserve to win.

Remember guys (participants), a big part of survival is being aware of your surroundings and situation. How well do you think you will really fare in a survival situation when you simply can't read from the top to the bottom?

Slow down, take a breath, and do what you need to do, but quit ruining it for those that want to participate in these contests.

I totally agree with you on that... When I was brand new to this forum I always read those co.test with a lot of excitement and wondered a bit about those very clear instructions of no chatting in big letters... After dome of those threads these rules kinda burned themselves deep into my mind because they were nearly everywhere :D

What I really dont get is why even guys with a food amount of posts and registered time on the BFC still start to chat or ask questions... All of us with a golden/yellow name could just drop a PM towards the mod that started the contest and ask about their thing...

All this has been said before so I dont wanna start a fire for a witch hunt

Personally I like the idea of BFC infractions and would add seomething more to it: a custom forum title to show everyone around here who is NOT able to follow 3 or 4 simple rules.... For some guys this will be harder than a short temp ban or whatever you can fet through these points here...

Do what you have to do. Warnings, infractions, DQ's, all that. If you need to, start a contest thread, and a second "Contest Discussion" thread, and move posts that don't belong in the contest thread itself into the other one.

I can totally "feel ya" on this rant. I remember a giveaway thread where Jeff had to of posted a gentle "reminder" about five times. And still pages of nonsense and old/stock/borrowed pics/re-threads followed.
Anywhoooo....... When I saw the title of this thread I was hoping that "rant" was an acronym..... for something cool that you were gonna show us.:D

Maybe the format for entry should be given and then any post that swerves off track just get's immediately deleted/disqualified. Sound like more work...

Well i definately broke the rules so infract away...i did not mean any harm by it though...it was ment more or less as a light hearted jab at tony because he knows where i live....But you are correct it shouldn't have been done...Jeff, We do appriciate all the things that ESEE does on this forum...And i am not talking about the free stuff ya'll give away...We appriciate all the knowledge ya'll share with us as well as the one on one communication ya'll have with us the customer. Sorry for the screwup..won't happen again....next time i want to jack with tony i will do it via pm....sorry guys

Maybe including "NO CHATTING" in the contest thread title might help as well - no one can say they weren't warned[/URL]

It's a nice thought but there is no excuse to miss NO CHATTING even if there is a whole four sentences of information above, around or before it.

As far as infractions, Sparks says it's ok, and I think it's a great idea Jeff. Infract on!

God bless,
Adam

You could always put a disclaimer that chatting = disqualification.

Eventually, people will catch on. Those that don't... well... welcome to life. The larger the crowd, the more likely you are to having people who don't listen(read). In the end, if the requirement for having contests relies upon EVERYONE listening, then the contests will go away. It's not a realistic expectation, unfortunately... and it only gets worse with the more people you have.

Sorry to be the smart ass to let you in on this, but you are always going to have people not listening and properly following anything. I do understand the frustration y'all have for some of us that don't read, heed, and follow the rules. You will be able to train some. Others (newbes and douches) will continue to spam your contest threads. (I can't get some guys I pay and with the penalty of firing, follow instruction.) I dare to say, every contest thread will have some clean up even after the "new and improved" rules go into place. Worst you could do is DQ them from that and a few following contest.

Thank you for your generosity here on BF and for setting up the contest. I'm still a freeloaded here on BF. And I may get set up to enter a contest with a membership eventually. Until then I'll just buy the knives I need.
