My rant...

ttd - that snowshoe contest was not d.o.a. i'll definitely participate when it gets re-opened!

Well a lot seems to have happened while I was at work today. Glad it all worked out though. I like the ideas of infractions for failure to follow the rules. I for one am relieved though, I almost financed a snow machine this afternoon.

I couldn't be bothered to read the initial post.....what happened? ;)

Whatever it was...yeah...I'm...mad n' stuff! :grumpy:

When I read the first three posts on the snowshoe thread it felt like scratching a chalkboard. I knew Mr.Randall would get mad!

Put Mrs Shotgunner on the job of moderating contests. She did a pretty good job of slapping the idiots and keeping people in line in this thread.

I was gonna say that thread had given me hope.... but it took nearly a year of everyone here going dead-ass silent and shaking their heads anytime anyone said the word "forum knife" to get to that point...

So can I throw the new forum knife?..

Oh, wait, my bad. I forgot what this thread was about. Can I chat here? ;):D

Perhaps in addition to giving infractions, you could give people a chance to "redeem" themselves by completing an assignment. "you violated the instructions in this contest thread. You are hereby given an infraction, but you may redeem yourself by completing this homework assignment: go practice building a deadfall trap or bow drill fire and document it in a quality post to have the infraction removed."

Might be able to have some good come from it.

I know there is a distinct possibility I could be guilty of committing an infraction myself sometimes, as I read threads while "working" and sometimes forget the details from the first post by the time I get to the 3rd page, etc.

I hope this doesn't double-post from my Android phone like always seems to happen to Shotty :).

Why not start a contest thread, sticky it and then lock it. Put "email your pics to such and such and we'll pick a winner"?

Because they shouldn't have to.

Shame that people can't read and follow simple instructions. Perhaps maybe put NO CHATTING in the thread title. Doubt that would help much though.

Sadly, that is what is done and it doesn't work.

Well thanks to Sparks & Fixer I have a year and a half of gold membership so take your time get things figured out, I/we will be here when your ready to start the contests back up.

It think there will always be those that fail to read the instructions. It's just life. I think with over 900 pack members posting on this forum. 3 out of 900+ is actually pretty good numbers.

I always liked those tests in school that gave a simple instruction before the exam like "Put a star next to your name for 25 bonus points". Never failed to catch at least 5-6 dummys.

Hope to see the contests back soon.

Theres no fix to the chatting, unfortunately. Or, at least i don't see one. Sucks, but some people just don't get it.

Good move Jeff, it will make reading the contest threads much more enjoyable. Sad that it has to come to this, but anything that makes it easier on the mods and yourself.
