I've done this before to various knives and a few other Beckers. I like the matte finish because it gets rid of all the machining marks for a much cleaner look. I'll take some OOOO steel wool to buff out some of the matte finish for a semi satin look, add a patina, rub down with oil, and throw the micarta scales on once they get here! Next will be a custom sheath of some sort. Hope you enjoy the pics!

I left the handles on to help keep the coating under the knife scales

That looks great. I love that finish. Wish Kabar would do that to more blades, and also to the Zytel. Makes the Zytel feel soooooooo good

Looks fantastic, super clean! That finish is excellent, looking forward to seeing it all finished up. I just got a BK-5 myself that I am pondering what to do with... Still working on some of my other Beckers so it may stay on the back burner for now.

These Beckers are like a blank canvas for anyone wanting to mod a knife. From mild to wild! I may just skip the patina, use as is and just let it paint the canvas naturally!

Thanks y'all! Here is the stainless hardwear in case someone else wants to pick some up. Cost me around $5 at Lowe's.

I originally bought some socket heads but liked the looks of the button heads a little better.

The button head screws which are on the knife now

Lock nuts and washers. I used two washers under each screw so they would screw in flush with the lock nuts on the other side.

If bead blasting carbon steel, is there a concern that you're creating a surface more likely to trap/hold moisture that could result in rust?

I remember I once had a firearm that was stainless, and had never had a problem with rusting, but as soon as I bead blasted it, started getting issues of "pin prick" type rust dots that would show up if not maintained very carefully.

The steel wool buffs out some of that matte finish. Once the patina is done and oil applied, there shouldn't be any issues with rust. I tend to wipe down my blades with an oily rag after each woods outing and I've never had any problems.

Love the TKC grips, also as far as sandblasted steel, only my personal experience but its not caused me any issues on mine. I think it could, but I clean mine regularly and oil them. I think the little dents hold a little bit of oil, just like they would hold moisture.
