My Spyderco Delica 4 FFG

Very interesting how one man's comments of appreciation turned into a full blown Delica tribute thread. I sold my BRG ZDP-189 about a year ago as it wasn't getting pocket time vs my Ti framelock flippers. After regretting the sale for 8 or 9 months I finally went ahead and purchased a replacement just like it. There is definitely something special about the Delica.

I should rename the title!

The 2 most carried and used knives in my small collection are the Delica and Endura in HAP40. I prefer the Delica because it's light and compact and usually just enough blade for most of my knife tasks. Food prep, hunting, and some farm chores go a little easier with a bigger knife and then I go for the Endura. I have a couple of Para 2s, and sweet as they are, I gravitate towards the thinner stock and lighter weight of the Delica/Endura most of the time.

What are some of the farm chores you use you knives for? I am a city/suburbia guy and would love to see some farm work in action--pics are encouraged!

Well, I don't farm for a living, but I enjoy growing as much of my own food as I can. I have chickens, a vegetable garden, berries, a small orchard, about 10 acres of hay and some pasture that I'm going to put cattle or pigs on some day hopefully. I'll try and get around to posting some pictures.

Super Blue today .

Ken

Great Choice!

That's a great feat in self-reliance--I like it! I look forward to seeing some pics of your place someday--sounds like a little slice of heaven to me.

I have a blade made by Bob Engnath and heat treated by Paul Bos. I would like to trade it for a Delica with a stainless steel handle. If I am out of line for placing this here in this thread please delete. I am new to the forum and have not learnt all the rules. email is pacaescie@gmail.com

Hi Mr. Graveur. . . I am excited you would like to get a Delica! However, the only place to post a trade request is in the Exchange: http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/forumdisplay.php/757-Trade-Knives-amp-Tools.

Like Mr. Harronek, I too am favoring the SB Delica today!

Simple tasks like opening the mail and cutting threads on a Boy Scout uniform are made even simpler with this fine tool:

Very cool...I assume you always have fresh eggs?

My neighbors back in college were into farming too...they did theirs inside with lights ...

Spyderco Folks,

This will constitute my first post in the Spyderco Forum--thanks in advance for having me in the room.

For the last 3-4 years I have almost exclusively carried CRK knives--my most carried, trusted, and cherished EDC is my CRK Small 21 Insingo--absolutely phenomenal knife. Recently, I decided to delve into the world of Spyderco and found myself admiring online the PM2, Delica 4, Gayle Bradley, Junior, Chaparral, etc. I decided that a Delica 4 is a must-have knife and ended up trading with a fellow forum member to acquire a Delica 4 in Blue FRN with a FFG VG-10 Blade.

I put my Sebenza in the EDC drawer and started carrying this beautiful Delica. I have used it for all of the standard EDC type tasks one comes across such as:

Slicing up the pizza box:

Slicing bananas and carrots as a treat for my Doberman:

And of course, opening the mail:

In the course of the last few days I have also used it to slice tape on boxes, cut paracord, open rock salt bags, and various other tasks. The design of this blade really matches up with the ergonomics of my hand and fits perfectly:

I don't know if it will replace my Sebenza, but I know that the two will fight for some pocket and usage time--however, in the end--they can certainly coexist as two fine knives made by two excellent and respected makers:

Says a lot about Spyderco when it competes with a Sebenza.

And it's refreshing to see an honest assessment by someone who takes off the filtered glasses and sees knives for what they are.

👍

I've been packing up my house lately in preparation to move, and since I'm too cheap to buy a tape gun I've been using my Spydies to cut tape as I package up boxes (packing tape as well as duct tape for labeling). I've been using primarily a Delica 4 and Paramilitary 2 for these tasks, toggling back and forth between the two depending on how the mood strikes me. I should note that in general I prefer the Delica over the PM2 in many ways. However, I quickly noticed that cutting the tape was both easier and cuts were cleaner using the PM2. I'm not sure if it's the extra blade length, the more pronounced belly, or something else, but for this specific task the PM2 definitely beats out the Delica in my book!

I prefer the polished stainless clip, which is available directly from Spyderco. Endura shown.
