My temporary resignation from knife purchasing. (Very temporary... ^_~)

Good approach. I did the new truck thing in December. Now I'm selling guns to reduce and eventually pay off the principal. Payments come out of regular monthly income. Maybe I should pick up some nickels and dimes selling knives too? The goal is to have it paid off inside a year. Payments are huge.

Good plan. Just think how much extra cash you'll have every month to buy knives with once you get the truck paid off.

I'm old and I pretty much suck, but I'm debt free for the first time in my life and it feels great.

No question about that. I drove the same pickup for 15 years and then had a fender bender accident that was enough to "total it". Since I'm older, I decided to go the new route rather than buy something with 40-50K miles on it like I usually did. Major sticker shock.

...You can stop anytime you want. I've done it dozens of times.
You can stop if you want to. But like an alcoholic, you probably shouldn't hang out in bars or in the case of knives, hang out in a knife forum. My objective is simply to slow down on acquisitions, because I often find the new stuff interesting. That doesn't usually mean I will purchase 30 knives in a single year or 2 to 3 per month. The objective is sharing information and having fun with the hobby.

Keep your mind busy with other things (most knife acquirement is because you have too much free time to think about knives) and put your money to things that create memories rather than things (in this case, take your bf to trip somewhere).

I was trying to be tongue in cheek. I did not expect anyone to take my comment seriously.

Of course, you are 100% correct with your comments. Like you said, "The objective is sharing and having fun with the hobby."

I knew that you were. Of course a smiley of some sort would have emphasized your meaning. But there is a serious side to this as well with compulsive behavior. I intended that to the general thread audience versus you in particular.

They sure are not cheap... Trucks that is. I've been in the market doing my due diligence, and know what I want. Not new new, but newish where someone else just broke in the motor for me... Being 2018 a bunch of the 2015 leases are all being returned this year, so I'm aiming to find a 2015 gmc sierra 2500 (sle w/ the front bench seat), with leather, under 50k miles, for $30-35k, AND I want to keep my payments under $400...

Aiming for Oct. so dealers are trying to clear space for '19 models, gives me some more room to haggle down the price some, but while I should have no problem finding my truck, with a ton of other life expenses at hand, I'm going to need a few grand of disposable income available to get my payments where I want them, and a hundred here a hundred there on knives is not going to help me reach my goal, (plus I need to keep the credit cards clean to help with credit score come financing time), so yeah, no new knives for a while, unless the wife buys me one.... so far she's been pretty awesome in her selections...

Knives from the wife so far;

(+ a Katz Kagemusha in my work closet, and Buck Blue 722 I only realized after was in my pocket, not pictured)

She is definitely without a doubt a keeper!

I'm on a temporary hiatus as well, but that's because I want to buy a new truck in October, so yeah, more money saved between now and then will equal lower payments, which will equal more knives after... delayed gratification...

Aaaaand Thennnn...... This happened:
Damascus & Mammoth version of a knife I've wanted for a while now;

My first Sebbie (which came to surprise me with the same birthday as me, was meant to be...) as well as a S&M SFO coke bottle jack (and a pair of S&M fathers day gifts)

AND
My first GEC's; a stag Northfield French kate to be the cream of the crop in my small lady leg collection, and a pair of crown lifters after just missing out on one here on the forums...

NOW I think I'm (almost) done with my knife buying for the rest of year... although admittedly I still have 2 in my BladeHQ cart, and am considering a couple more S&M's and a matching backup pair of crown lifters before they're harder to find at decent prices.

Oh, and I almost forgot, I also picked up an S&M file&wire Jack not pictured...

Oh, and I also picked up a Kizlyar Supreme Whisper from a member here that I must say is a beauty!!!

I promised a guy a couple years back I would get him a "nice" knife, in his favorite colors - red and black, since he was carrying a home depot $10 "coast"... The knife opens so smooth and feels so good in hand, I kinda want to keep it for myself.... or, maybe another purchase coming, lol?

Words to the wise....

1.) Stay away from the forum if you want to meet success in this goal

2.) You will be back and slip again

I can add the following:

3.) Not just this knife forum, but ALL of the blade forums...there must be 10 decent ones.

4.) Stay away from Twitter, Facebook, and YouTube b/c they have knife related info.

5.) Unsubscribe from the multi daily knife emails that you get.

5.5) Oh shoot... just don't start your computer

6.) Don't answer the door or telephone. It could be a knife salesman!

Sparkly lasted about as long as most.... two knives that I am aware of purchased. That's okay.

Nice collection there!!!! Yes, knives are expensive, I have had my budget kicking, screaming, and begging for mercy from knife purchases.

Congratulations on being debt free. I bet you dont believe in 400 dollar pocket knives.
Best of luck.
