My Wife Needs a Knife!

It seems that TX has made the decision not to allow Assisted Opening knives anymore.

My wife has had a Kershaw Blur, which is assisted opening. She carries it every day, but since that is no longer allowed, she needs a new folder.

I'm open to suggestions:

I would like the blade to be of high quality. It seems that most folders of this type are stainless, so I guess I'll have to live with that.

It needs to be fairly large. My wife is not a dainty fainty kinda woman. :)

No serrations.

Lock blade, easy open action.

Strong.

No blade coatings.

No tantos.

It should be a production knife, as she isn't very kind to her tools.

What would you all suggest?

Andy

Kershaw RAM maybe?
It's not a very pretty knife, but it doesn't sound like your wife will mind.

It's super high quality, has a flipper, and a new and very interesting lock system.

What kind of steel? Looks interesting.

Andrew, just curious where the info about that Texas decision came from. The legislature is not in session now. Just wondering since I missed hearing about it. Thanks

I'm not too sure the decision is final yet. There's a 4 page thread on the subject on a Texas board...still no proof positive that an AO is illegal. And you can bet Kershaw is all over this.

No, it isn't legislation just yet. It's evidently a court decision which serves as precedent. Unfortunately.

But it gives me the opportunity to get my wife a new knife, also! :D

Ahh, understood. But I wouldn't count on that decision to stand, based upon the wording used in the current Texas law.

And do you really need a reason to buy another knife? :D

Anybody know anything about the Benchmade Kulgera?

I got one about a month ago and have been carrying it a lot. I find it to be just the right size for EDC and feels good in the hand. The blade shape is a little boring but very useful.

I had one thought. Is it possible to remove the spring or something from a Kershaw AO and turn it into a plain old locking folder?
