My Wife Needs a Knife!

If you liked the Manix and Caly 3, look at a Sage. It's S30V and carbon fiber over full stainless liners. Very nice knife... a bit larger than the Caly 3, a bit smaller and lighter than the Manix and capable of doing quite a bit of real work.

Take a look at the new Blade-Tech Pro Hunter Magnum. If you can you have to feel it in your hand, then you can't put down.

All right, that's a possibility. I'll put it on the list, thanks!

Just out of curiosity, why would they do that? What is it that makes AO so threatening or dangerous? Street gangs back in the 50s used kitchen knives in knife fights. Only in movies did they use switchblades. So what did the government do? They banned switchblades! It's made me curious as to who is behind this banning? Banning switchblades had...lemme see here...oh, here it is...exactly...ummm...oh, yes, ZERO effect on violent crime!!!!!!! Now they're going after AO knives. What the hell is in the drinking water?

I hate to sound like a broken record, but this sounds like another description of either a Cold Steel 4-inch Voyager, clip-point, no serrations, or a Byrd Cara Cara with G10 scales. The former can be had for about $48 on eBay; the latter, for about $25.

Both are fairly large, are available with no serrations, have lock back blades, are strong, have polished blades (which resists staining and corrosion), and they're production knives.

The CS Voyager 4-inch. Light, strong, good looking and
inexpensive.

The Byrd Cara Cara (below) is substantially larger than
the Spyderco Native, which sports a 3-inch blade.

What, no Tonto? Why of all the...oh,
tantos. Uh, never mind....

As some others have pointed out, there isn't technically a ban in place, but what seems to be a poor ruling on a statute which didn't get much defense.

Where that will go I don't know, but it is irritating.

Thanks for the suggestions, I'm looking for folders with a bit better steel. The Kershaw my wife currently has is 440C or A, I don't remember, and she has commented on its lack of edge holding. I haven't used the knife, but I do sharpen it for her, and I have had to work at it to get it the way I like it in the past.

Here are some knives that I am considering, then, so far; Thought I'd start adding some pics and specs to help make up my mind. I've weeded out a few earlier possibilities because they were too small, or I didn't like them aesthetically.

My girlfriend loves the Spyderco Delica I gave her. She also really likes my Benchmade 710.

I would go Kulgera over the Lahar.

longer blade, shorter handle - better ratio
lighter
better lock imo, plus ambidextrous
better aesthetically
no recurve to sharpen

And so I did. I just ordered the Kulgera.

Thanks for all the suggestions and help!

OK, my wife received her Kulgera a couple of days ago, here are some pics of the knife:

My overall impressions of the knife are very favorable. The fit and finish are quite nice. There is no blade play when the knife is locked open. The blade pivot is smooth and reliable. The blade is well polished, the grips are, well, grippy. The blade also came reasonably sharp. A few passes on a steel, followed by stropping, and it was very sharp.

The handle of this knife is too small for me, but perfect for my wife. The blade shape, my wife has informed me, is more useful for her than her old Kershaw Blur. The handle is slimmer and it packs more easily. It is also lighter, not to mention much prettier!

I am pleased with this knife, but more importantly, so is my wife!

That is good to hear. I just paid for one in the exchange, only there is a hurricane sitting right smack dab over the owner(and thus the knife) right now. On one hand, I feel bad for the guy, but on the other, I sure hope the knife comes out unscathed. Is that bad of me? :D

disassemble the blur, remove the ao springs, reassemble.
she now has the knife she knows and trusts
