My Wife Needs a Knife!

I had one thought. Is it possible to remove the spring or something from a Kershaw AO and turn it into a plain old locking folder?
Yes, it's possible to take out the torsion bar for almost ever AO Kershaw.
The only two it won't work for are the Speed/Spec Bump and the Offset.

what about a caly built like a tank i love mine some time i dont even know i have it on me very sharp, stays sharp,and easy to sharpen

That looks pretty good. I like VG10, also!

Here are some knives that I am considering, then, so far;

Kershaw RAM
Kershaw Lahar
Benchmade Kulgera
Benchmade Mini-Rukus
Benchmade Griptilian
Benchmade AFCK
Benchmade 940
Spyderco Endura
Spyderco Caly
Spyderco Centafonte - drop point
Spyderco Ocelot

I'm definitely open to more suggestions! Thanks!

i would get the caly or the Centafonte but that's just me;)

I purchased a Kulgera a number of months ago and like it alot. It cuts like a banshee and holds an edge really well. It is a very well made knife - what you would expect from Benchmade. The blade has some size to it, but the knife itself is very "handy". I really like the Axis lock and am going to have to purchase another benchmade - 710? - because it works so well and is so smooth. Unless she is going to carry it in her purse, I would not recommend a Manix. I have one. It by far and away is the toughest folder I own, but it is on the large size - I don't carry it very often because of the size and weight. With that in mind, I would recommend that you look at the Spyderco Paramilitary. This is everything you want in a tough folder. This is a no bs knife. I edc this knife more than anything else, with the possible exception of the zdp189 Endura I bought on the forum a month or two ago. Then there is the ...........!!!!! The list goes on and on.

benchmade 940?
I saw you listed the kulgera, I have one and I highly recommend it any questions just ask.

Spyderco Para Military FG G-10 D2 PE

If you can get past the Foliage Green color that new CPM D2 is supposed to be some amazing stuff.

I've given my girl a Delica 4 and a Boker Sub Claw. Both have great steels and seem to fit your criteria.

It seems that TX has made the decision not to allow Assisted Opening knives anymore.
Just out of curiosity, why would they do that? What is it that makes AO so threatening or dangerous? Street gangs back in the 50s used kitchen knives in knife fights. Only in movies did they use switchblades. So what did the government do? They banned switchblades! It's made me curious as to who is behind this banning? Banning switchblades had...lemme see here...oh, here it is...exactly...ummm...oh, yes, ZERO effect on violent crime!!!!!!! Now they're going after AO knives. What the hell is in the drinking water?

* High quality...stainless
* ...fairly large
* No serrations
* Lock blade, easy open action
* Strong
* No blade coatings.
* No tantos.
* ...production knife....
I hate to sound like a broken record, but this sounds like another description of either a Cold Steel 4-inch Voyager, clip-point, no serrations, or a Byrd Cara Cara with G10 scales. The former can be had for about $48 on eBay; the latter, for about $25.

Both are fairly large, are available with no serrations, have lock back blades, are strong, have polished blades (which resists staining and corrosion), and they're production knives.

The CS Voyager 4-inch. Light, strong, good looking and
inexpensive.

SpydercoNativeByrdCaraCara.jpg

The Byrd Cara Cara (below) is substantially larger than
the Spyderco Native, which sports a 3-inch blade.

What, no Tonto? Why of all the...oh,
tantos. Uh, never mind....

I like the Spyderco Ocelot. G-10 handle, VG-10 blade. Discontinued, but easily available. +1 on the Endura (or Delica). I wouldn't go with the Calypso. Blade is optimized for slicing and the tip is a bit thin if it is going to see abuse.

Here are some knives that I am considering, then, so far;

Kershaw RAM
Kershaw Lahar
Benchmade Kulgera
Benchmade Mini-Rukus
Benchmade Griptilian
Benchmade AFCK
Benchmade 940
Spyderco Endura
Spyderco Caly
Spyderco Centafonte - drop point
Spyderco Ocelot
Spyderco Sage

How 'bout a vote on these?

I wasn't aware of the apparent ban on AO knives in Texas. Frankly, I'd carry one anyway if that's what I enjoyed. Otherwise, I'd suggest an Endura Wave. The BM 940 is an excellent knife if you like the design.

Classic Benchmade Mini-Griptilian, women love them...
I have one in Damascus - PM if interested..
