Well my wife asked me to get her first fixed blade knife for hiking and minor camping chores. I need some suggestions on what to get her. Nothing expensive. i need it to hold up to batoning, fire prep, easy sharping, doesn't rust easily, and food prep also. She wants the blade no more than 4" long and it has to have a rubber handle grip. She likes the SOG sealpup that I use alot on all our trips. But she says it to big for her and the handle hurts her hands. I already tried to give her the mora I have, but she says it's not her taste. She doesn't mind the serrations because she uses a S.A.K. for finer things.

So what do you guys suggest I get her?
I was thinking about getting her a pendleton hunter from CS but it doesn't have a rubber grip.

I'd recommend the Buck Diamondback. Great little knife. Cheap, too.

[Edit:] Didn't see the rubber handle requirement.

FALLKNIVEN F-1 sounds like what you need about the right length rubber grip and a very good reputation and if she dosen't like it keep it for your self :)

Well, I know it's a Mora, but the Mora 2000 is what my wife loves for camping and backpacking. It's right at four inches, but it's stainless, rubber handle, light enough not to be a burden and can do light battoning. I will also recommend the F1, but it's a little thicker, but the grind works well for food prep and other camp chores.

Another one to look at is Spyderco's Moran. Good steel, light and a very comfortable handle.

Are you sure the Echo's handle is rubberized? Polyamide is a hard plastic, isn't it?

Pick out the knife you most covet and if she tires of it or lets you use it good for you.

these are what i bought my lady.

A vote for the Bark River or the SAK.

Bark Rivers are purty. She'll like purty.

Edited to add: I read the original request more closely. Fixed blade. Rubber Grip. No more than 4".

Fallkniven F1.
Spyderco Moran (I like this idea. See below.)
Buck Vanguard with rubber grip.
CS Pendleton hunter is not a bad choice. The "kraton" grip is rubbery. I have one somewhere.

My wife faced the same decision awhile back and fell in love with the Spyderco Moran

An interesting vote. Upswept or drop point?

The Morans do have nice ergo handles, and they're smallish and would fit well in a lady's hand. They're also very light, thus the name "Featherweight."

She picked the upswept. The handle looks a little awkward but only until you use the knife...then you realize that Bill Moran was a genius.
