My Winter Anorak

Has anyone seen a good commercial pattern available close to this wonderful design?

A commercial maker of something similar is Swanndri (look for Bushshirt) in New Zealand. They are pretty expensive and now made in China from New Zealand wool but are top quality.

I'm hoping that Rick will see his old thread revived and maybe chime in with a pattern.

I saw the pics that KGD took, and I was wondering what you were wearing Rick. I like the look of it, and I am wondering what you think of it after being out in the weather you were in last night.

TF, I was wearing a blanket shirt from Ron LeClaire at Schrew Bows. Scott is wearing a wool blanket anorak like the one in this thread. My shirt was warm enough for the day, but I wore the anorak at night. Actually, I wore one layer on my upper body and the second around my legs. It worked out well.

I made a Blanket shirt and hunted Northern Wisconsin in it. I added a rolled Army blanket to the bottom of my pack and when seated for long I wrapped my legs. I have thought about making a short bag that would come up to the bottom of my shirt and simply encase my lower half. The two together would compliment and if it had straps could carry loose clothing to the stand.

Nice stitching on the hood, the KKK style hoods always drive me nuts. Ever thought about doing a leather smock over the top for waterproofing on the slushy sleeting fall and spring days?

Thanks! I was just thinking the other day that I needed to look this thread up soon. I'd like to make something similar...lighter, but similar before Autumn gets here.

yeah, i'm thinking about grabbing a cheap canvas drop cloth, i think they're 8-10 oz... dye it o.d. or brown...

thanks for bumping this guys. was starting the process last spring...then it got hot...then i forgot about it...now is a good time to get started. winter will be here 'fore we know it.
now-which closet /storage space are those wool blankets buried in

I just finished mine a few nights ago and am very happy with the result. I used this drawing, which Rick kindly posted in my thread:

I just subtracted a couple inches from the width, length, and sleeve dimensions to account for my frame. (I'm 6 feet, 156lbs.)

As soon as I shell out some dough for a better blanket, I'll use the one I made as a pattern and hopefully end up with something I really love. Thanks again, Rick.

Those are great designs. I want one bad but would almost certainly be able to wear one made of wool for about 1 week out of the year around here. Our temps drop to a sustained low in the teens for a few weeks and polypro long handles are worn most of the time with no heavy coat.

I have a heavy wool Filson vest that still looks almost brand new even though it has some age since it is too hot to wear.

You mind if I use your design to sew my own up some day? It would be made out of canvas with a removable fleece lining, more than likely. The canvas/cotton would have to be treated for weather proofing and I would need arm vents, etc. for cooling.

ETA: I just noticed the date on this. Glad someone brought it back up or I would have never seen the thread.

Where did you get your blankets from? Unless I can find them in person I'm afraid I'm going to end up with those cheap, loose knit wool blankets.

SDS

Stroh's Surplus Okarche, OK (405) 263-4888 has german, swiss, us blankets.

Edit; oh; old thread; SDS is already wearing
