Myke Hawke Gear

Didn't watch the video yet (swmbo is studying nearby, must be quiet!) I had no idea who the guy was until I googled him. Les and Bear, sure, but how many people are actually going to know who he is at the knife display at walmart?
Next we are going to be seeing some youtube survival experts releasing lines of knives I guess.

After watching it's pretty crap. Flip out hand guards?
The e-tool looks kind of neat for a zombie apocalypse kind of tool, though, if it were cheap I may buy one.

They're exclusive to SMKW, so if people who shop at Walmart know him or not is irrelevant. ;)

I think they're all ridiculous, but what do I know, I'm not a survival expert.

I think that whole range of knives is vile. In principle, the no fannying around and get on with it use of stainless and rubber is something I applaud. That shrugs off a lot of silliness I have no tolerance for with users. Even though I think the designs are a bit daft we've had discussions before here about genuine usefulness vs stuff that just makes people feel good and gives them the confidence to get outdoors, like the last Busse thread here. I don't think I can reasonable overlook that factor as a motivation for ownership whether it be these things or Dark Ops stuff. I'd rather plunder my kitchen for tools than use any of these, but if they get kids outdoors or people with more money than knowledge want to give Myke some money I'm going to smile either way.

I honestly feel we aka the human race worked out the shapes of knives a looooong time ago. Hard to imagine someone who to the best of my knowledge hasn’t forged or done any smith work coming up with something radical and game changing.

“try to stab a pig or a bear” Right, happens to me all the time and more so with a knife tied to a stick.

“tag yourself a rabbit” with a throwing knife. Again this is a common need.

In a toy sorta way I kinda like the arrow heads and funky pen. The worst and there were so many silly looking edged tools to choose from is that little carry knife. The rest are goofy for the sake of goofy IMHO. Keep in mind I have never held any of these things so my views are just that views not based on any actual field use of the line. Could be wrong but I don't think so. On a side note I liked his TV show Man, Women Wild.

I am pretty unimpressed. He really has a thing for tantos...I dont like the look of any of these to be honest. The finger guards look to be dangerous more then useful...IMO. I do like Mikel quite a bit but I am not interested in any of these designs.

Myke Hawke looks to be really big.
How many of you folks want to see Myke Hawke up close and personal?

From SMKW site. Nice to know we're in good hands.

Mykel Hawke Knives from Smoky Mountain Knife Works
Myke Hawke is now teaming up with Smoky Mountain Knife Works utilizing his formal name to release the two folders seen above. These blades include the Harrier Hawk Linerlock and the smaller pocket clip Sparrow Hawk Linerlock. Both are manufactured with AUS-8 Stainless steel with a G-10 Blade. These knives will be available for shipment at the end of June an will be on hand with Myke Hawke himself at the Blade Show in Atlanta, GA this weekend.

I guess "Mykel Pierce" - his name - is low on the Cool Scale.

Good luck sharpening those survival knives on a rock in a shtf situation. Tactical knives will always have a market as long as mall ninjas have big dreams of being "tier one" operators hahaha

In conclusion; them things gunna go like hot cakes!

Well..... I think we all know that straight edges are easier to sharpen than curved ones. So in a survival situation, that type of knife should be easier to sharpen on a flat stone. The knives at SMKW look horrendous, but I know that was his theory about the Hellion. And our very own Mistwalker seemed to think that the Hellion wasn't that bad of a knife.

I wouldn't buy any of them though. Even the Hellion.

I think his line of knives was definitely not geared toward a knife savvy audience. The people that buy that kind of gear are probably already not going to invest in the kind of knives/gear most of the folks on BFC are passionate towards. More than likely 90% of the his line will sit in closets and dresser drawers and be taken out only occasionally to be dusted off, fondled, and included in pictures to be posted on tactical forums.

I think he means that even when you sight along the front rib you can still see that full thickness has been preserved in the stock.

weak knives + hot wife= average TV and he is laughing all the way to the bank. Any idea what group he was in during his SF days? Seems he falls between BG & Les on the entertainment scale, but really him and the new guy on Dual Survival are killing me with the "force protection" - build a frickin fire, hell it held back Frankenstein. Do you really think it won't work with Pumba?
