The mail lady delivering this today got me as excited as a red-blooded, 36 year old male can get without breaking the law or removing any clothes!!! ;) :D

The level of work that our very own Nathan Carothers does is simply frick'n amazing!!!

The only downside to all this awesomeness, is it just reinforces what a hack I am... but I'm okay with that! I'ze gots me some kick-ass new grinding gadgetry!!! :D

I cannot stress enough how pleased you will be with Nathan's work. It is absolutely top shelf.

What's that, a couple of disks (flat and angled?), a radius platen, and platen chiller? Slick :)

The discs are freaking amazing. You can hardly tell their moving, even at full speed.

I took apart the chiller just to see what was up inside. Very cool inside as well. The platens are very nice as well.

A limited run of disc hubs with interchangeable face plates would be really versatile. Ad would make us spend more money.

No kidding.
I am totally enthralled by the large radius platen from Nathan, it's a really nice look for bevels. Drooling over his disks, but I spent my budgie on the Nielsen system with one of each disk...which is just great, no complaints!

WIN! I ended up with a chillier and a platen from Nathan too, and I set up my KMG this past weekend and it runs great!

Go Nick, grind something pretty!v:cool:

I can now wish for a disc grinder.... bad influences here... :D

What is this new devilry?

Nathans stuff is seriously the best. I have a flat platen and a radius platen from him and use them every day. I'm a huge fan of the 72in radius version. I think its easier to use than a flat platen for the most part and allows for a thinner grind without any real loss in strength.

Yep, his work is amazing. I have been running one of his flat discs since he finished the first run of them, and I have used it on EVERY knife since. Now I've got the tapered disc set-up, and will get the other flat one going when I can.

I'm excited to see how the platen and chiller will run. I think the radius on the end of the platen is going to super streamline my grinding process on integrals, and some new designs as well.

Nathan's machine work is so nice, I want to just put it on the shelf and admire it. The finish cuts on the aluminum are mesmerizing. :D

+1... I haven't had the milling/machining bug as long as some of my other afflictions... Nonetheless, admiration of his work is something I probably waste too much time on these days.

Good way to get thyself hot blooded I reckon... but if you ain't at least half naked and breaking the law, you ain't doin' it right... :)

I'm blown away by the finish grinds on Nathan's discs, and other stuff he makes. While I myself have yet to own or use a proper knife grinder, shaping my bevels with files, just seeing the stuff Nathan turns out makes me wish I had a grinder so I can use his stuff. Platen chiller? Excuse the ignorance, I assume that is to keep the belt, and your workpiece, cool while running? I just now had to do a search to learn what that was. At first I thought it had a cavity inside that you put ice or something in!!!! But I see, you run compressed air through the back of the platen, and that cushion of air helps to keep things cool. Cool! Learn something new every day.

Jealous, but the tools befit the craftsman.
I have a 12" Jet disc machine coming in the mail, I really hope it's at least marginal compared to what you've got there.

That's close... :)

The platen by itself can be run with an air line.

If you add the platen chiller to the platen, it covers up that air-intake port. So you need to run water through the platen chiller with a simple pump.

This is one of Nathan's photos--- You can see the water lines going in and out of the chiller.

So you can either use air with the platen alone, OR water with the chiller.

I should mention this is all based off messages from Nathan, but it's also in his sales thread. I haven't actually got mine set-up yet... So if I'm all wrong here, I'm sure Nathan will set it straight. :)
