When I got this thing yesterday, I was kinda disappointed. I called you boring. You looked too small.

I was wrong. You aren’t fidgety like my comp, liner and other lock knives, but I have to say I’m a lot more intrigued as I mess with you.

Maybe gunna buy another. But I was wrong. I admit it.

You can stop cutting my fingers now. I repent.

The original Native was my gateway into Spyderco knives and “good” knives in general. It’s always struck me as enough knife without being too much or too little.

I tend to play with my knives when I’m in teams meetings and other moments when I’m stuck at my desk or some other thing where my attention is demanded but I’m bored af listening to some management drone trying to pack as many buzz words into a meeting as possible while saying as basically nothing they couldn’t have sent me an email about.

Which is a lot.

Will say that the balance point is perfect for flipping it between grips, where I’ve had to add lanyards to my g10 pm2s to get balanced right for that.

I wish. I've only ever had the FRN versions.
One of the Teal or Orange versions? Great knives. I wish I didn’t hesitate on the Fluted Titanium ..still need to add one day, if I can find it. The Carbon Fiber variant is one of the best made Golden models I have.

I don’t remember (at the moment) how I wound up with a Native 5 in S30V, but I remember thinking, “Meh. It’s ok. Maybe I can trade it for something.” That was about 5 years ago, and it has become one of my favorite knives. I think I am about to buy another.

Once the Native 5 ( both G10 and FRN) break in ..they free drop to finger choil and can easily be spydie flicked!

I recently bought a Native 5 in Maxamet. Sharpest out-of-the box knife I've ever seen. Put a Lynch clip on it and it's been my main carry since.

On a related note, does anyone know what angle is a Native 5 ground to?

Jury is still out on this one for me, perhaps I need just one more to help me decide. 😉

At least one more...

So, is it your favorite...or do you have even more in another pattern?

The S35VN I just picked up isn't in that pic and I'm still on the fence, so at least one more is in order.

They are great little hard use knives and have been around long enough to have been released in a bunch of different steels. My favorite to collect perhaps. As for what single style knife I have the most off would probably have to give that to the Buck 110, or Microtech Ultratech.

Hard to pick a favorite Spyderco, the Bodacious would probably get the nod if forced to keep only one.

I really like this knife, but have one gripe about it.

Don’t y’all feel like the tip is too close to being exposed? It seems that after 10-20 sharpenings you’d have to grind the spine down to drop it below the handle again. Maybe it wouldn’t bother “you” but it did enough for me to sell mine.
