Neck Knives BK-11 vs BK-14

Both! I was in the same boat and actually only have the BK24, but I've wanted the BK11 ever since....soon

I have quite a bit of experience with both.

I prefer the 14 with scales for my EDC knife. However, I don't neck carry it. I have a kydex setup that I carry on my belt.

For neck carry, I would choose the 11 without scales. The 11/14 are already pretty big for neck carry IMO. Scales make them too bulky. To me, the 11 without scales is more comfortable than the 14 without scales.

Fixed it for you.
:D

I Love the exchange, I just don't like to spend money...

Thanks! like my money and hate to part with it...deals can be found for the patient. I picked up my 11 for a song and my 24 for a little more ;)

I think the 11 is the toughest. The 14/24 the most hand comfort of the three. I use the 24 the most. They are all Great 👍

This^^

Though the 11 may not necessarily be "the toughest" it does have a very helpful feature on its handle ... you know ... the hot pot picker-upper!

I have both. The bk11 has less aftermarket scales and for me, creates a hot spot. The bi14 is more comfortable, and I've bought aftermarket tkc g10 scales.

i have no experience with the 14/24.

the 11 is one of my favourite knives. i can't imagine wearing the knife around my neck all day, but it works with the belt clip. the micarta scales are the bees knees. i don't love the stock sheath though. the knife's fallen out twice now. has been found twice too, thankfully.

the bk13 on the other hand, i can picture wearing it around my neck. and it fits tight in the sheath. mine does anyway...

So, I'm FIRMLY in the 11 camp, to the point I have 6 of them, and no 2 are the same. I have san-mai, I have saber ground, I have Ka-Bar, I have Camillus... I don't use a hammer grip though. I tend to wrap 3 fingers along the handle and run my forefinger down the spine. At least for cutting or slicing. It is possible to baton with it however it's a little risky with your forefinger on the spine :D

Oh, I always carry 1 around my neck and a lot of times I will have a second in my pocket or on my hip. It's my favorite small knife to carry. It's just handy!

HOORAY! I'm going to be the proud papa of a brand new BK-11! The stork, actually USPS, is on it's way to deliver the little bundle of joy any day now. My birthday is on Friday and my brother learned I was wanting one so he bought one for my birthday present! What an awesome brother I have! :tears_of_joy: Can't wait to meet the little guy for the first time; I hope it gets here in time for my birthday in 2 days. :glee:

BK-11 has arrived and has quickly become my EDC. Bought the micarta scales for it to complete the ensemble. Next: gotta get a custom kydex sheath for it. I even had the rare opportunity to make use of the integral bottle opener!

Congrats!
Cannot argue with that choice but I will say, a 14/24 is definitely worth picking up and having around.

Congrats on your BK11.

As the owner of all three I can tell you that while I find the handles of the 14/24 more comfortable ... the bottle opener is a handy and well used function of the 11.

As you have already determined, handle scales transform the 11.

U rigth, my bad, nice collection tho.

Thank you sir.
There's a couple of SG's and 24's that didn't make it in there.
These are what I have readily available, heh
Ok...yeah, I have problems, could be worse 😬

well, for lifting a bottle cap you can use the knife's spine, or a screwdriver, or even a lighter, but it sure is a nice feature on the 11. I prefer the 24 because of the handle, but don't trust the sheath for neck carry, still have to make kydex for it.

Understood, I have the same illness.

The more I look at the BK11, the more I love it. That being said, I have a BK14 that has served me well. I keep it strapped to my bag so I am never without it.

The short answer - buy both... we all know that is what you'll inevitably do anyway haha

the longer answer - if you plan to use it as a woods blade i would lean towards the bk14 since the handle lends itself to a little harder use such as carving and feather sticks, if you plan to edc the knife or want a bottle opener, i would lean towards the bk11 since it fits into a pocket very easily if you dont carry it as a neck knife.

One word of advice with either, spend the money on the factory scales, i have the micarta on the 11 and the plastic on the 14 and it makes a world of difference (even better than paracord).

make sure to post some pics of whatever one you get!
