Neck Knives BK-11 vs BK-14

The short answer - buy both... we all know that is what you'll inevitably do anyway haha

the longer answer - if you plan to use it as a woods blade i would lean towards the bk14 since the handle lends itself to a little harder use such as carving and feather sticks, if you plan to edc the knife or want a bottle opener, i would lean towards the bk11 since it fits into a pocket very easily if you dont carry it as a neck knife.

One word of advice with either, spend the money on the factory scales, i have the micarta on the 11 and the plastic on the 14 and it makes a world of difference (even better than paracord).

make sure to post some pics of whatever one you get!
Ummm,
See post 29...

Don't worry. It's a looker.

Thanks once again everyone for being such great enablers. I've really wanted this for a long time, just kept pushing it off since I have a BK24. Can't wait to etch, strip, etc. Actually, maybe I won't strip this one. I might get a rig like Ethan's and neck carry as well.

With the BK24 (I love the TKC scales) and the Izula...

They are both great. Congrats either way. I'm OK with the 11 stock, as I don't have very big mitts - but I think both of them could do with more handle real estate. I neck carry my customized 11 a fair amount...because I haven't gotten around to modding one of my 14's yet. Bottle opener on the 11 is a must....gives me an out when people ask me why I need a weapon hanging around my neck. I just tell them it's a bottle opener....with lime cutting functionality as well.

If you're ambitious and have a yen (and tools) for DIY, I did a thread here on the mods I did. Nothing like making one of Ethan's babies yours, IMO. Tho a lot of other folx like it, too.
Congrats on your acquisition..

Wow you guys have some nice necker mods! I find I like the 11 just fine without scales, thinner and lighter when carrying around the neck (good enough for Ethan, who am I to disagree??). On the other hand, I do not care for the 24 without the scales, just don't get a good grip on it. Now with scales on it, totally different animal, love the feel! Who knows, probably get scales for the 11 too one day, they sure look great and get rave reviews!

Congrats Lone Wolf, you will love it!!!

I just found this thread. so first post here. how can you pick just 1 bk even a neck knife? I have several bk neck knives. I use these 3 on a pretty regular basis. I modify most of my knives and my bk's are no different.
the remora with the micarta handle in the kydex is not only good looking, but more useful then you might think. the 24 holds an edge the best. and the bk 11 with a slight handle mod feels great around your neck.

Nice set.
If you think the scales improve the Remora (I totally agree) then do the same mod on it as you did on the 11.
Complete transformation

I took your advise and modded the grip on the remora. top photo.and it feels much better in my hand. of course I had to reshape the kydex sheath as well
it also has nicer lines and looks more streamline.

11 all the way, for me.
While micarta scales help the 14/24 (I ground the crap out of my 14, lol, so my point of reference is the 24), I'm still not crazy about how it feels in my hand. Don't get me wrong - the 11 in stock form was downright uncomfortable...but a little time with a dremel fixed that pretty easily. I ended up tweaking the blade shape slightly on one of mine; and it's probably my most used BK at this point. (Admittedly, a couple of other small fixed blades have been stealing most of the pocket time recently; but now that the 11 is back in my thoughts, I'll stick it in my pocket today (I don't really like neck carrying knives most of the time).

I know better than to talk about modifications without including pictures...but they're old mods, and the pics have been posted before; so I'll just post the link. http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php/1289574-BK11-version-H-2?highlight=bk11

Nice!
I went from never using it to using it all the time.
It sits next to my chair and is my goto around the house for opening stuff, cutting food etc.
I need to make a leather sheath and get it out of the house some.
I already have another one ready for scales.

I've been spending a little more time with my BK14 (gifted my Izula to my girlfriend's son for his birthday) and would like to recant my statement about the BK11. I can't believe I was unfaithful in any manner to my sweet Besee (see what I did there?) [emoji12]

But yeah, I've heard from more than a few people that they prefer the ergos of the BK14 to the BK11, and I agree. Wrapping that handle and really appreciating the curves is a wonderful thing. Pics of Besee below:

Revised the 11: re-sanded re-finished the scales, and deep-vinegar patina'd the blade:

so many of these great pics make the 11 blade look longer than it is... i wish!

not sure if anyone has mentioned, that "bottle opener" is also supposed to break wire right?

i like the bk11, but would probably prefer the 14 for the extra handle...
however in my opinion both are a bit too heavy to wear around the neck on a regular basis...
kabar also makes the 1117, scaled down version of their combat fighter sold as a neck knife, but i don't think it is a as capable as the BKs...

here i used ranger band around sheath to carry small survival items...
