Alright, so here's the breakdown... and I swear I'm not making this up. Admiral Steel (which is where I get my stuff), charges an ASSLOAD for pickled and oiled annealed bar stock. Apparently it needs to be sheared from plate on a per-order basis, and then P&O annealed. If I'm not mistaken, they charged me an extra $15-20 per 60" bar!
I get it this way because it seems much easier to work on the grinder, and there's almost no trace of scale, so I'm not spending so much time getting it off and making sure the stuff is flat after I manage to GET the scale off. WAAAAYYY more expensive this way, but it does save on belts and struggling to get it flat afterwards.
I paid as follows:

1/8"x1" $4.50/ft
1/8"x2" $5.85/ft
1/4"x2" $8.50/ft
1/4"x2.5" $9.70/ft

No shit, this doesn't even cover shipping, but after using their regular hot-rolled stuff, the P&O annealed stuff is far more consistent and easier to work with. If this is way too expensive for you guys, I understand (especially you forgers!), but I plan to bring a 60" section of each piece anyway...

IG, I'm sure you have something to cut this stuff down with... would you mind if I bring it and possibly have you cut it as we need it?
No Problem Bubba.  You just must be careful somethings may get cut off that you do not want to lose. HEHEHEHE!!!!  :D

I figured I'd just bring the 60" pieces and we'd divvy them up there, if that's okay with everyone.

Sound cool?

Man, you're mean, IG!!!

Trust me, I'm guessing there won't be anything at the HI that would cause something on me to GET long enough to worry about getting it cut off! Besides, I'm a Mick...everyone knows we're hung like pitbulls... but usually, we're just too drunk to get it up!!!:D :D

...also could makeup some Octopus stew.

Why you got to eat that crap? Only a crazy old Portugeezer would eat that slimey sh*t! How about some meat and potatos? :D

Well looks like Grasshoppa has talked me into giving a guard-slotting demo. If that goes well, I'll demo the shoulders too.

When you said Candya$$es, I thought it was going to be the next ingredient in this long list of foods I wont eat. Octopus, liver hunks, and essence of CandyA$$ stew, or something like that.

:barf:

:D

Wow, I got excited for a minute. HI (hammer-in), HI (Hawaii)? Took me all of a very painful split second to realize my brain shorted, and nope, ther's no hammer-in in Hawaii. I originally came from NH as a spud. You guys make me wish I was still there. That's gunna be one hell of a HI! Sure wish there were some folks around here I could get together with. Unfortunately blacksmiths and knifemakers in Hawaii are about as scarce as a bronze-breasted hip-swinging bikini-clad lava-hot foxy-Polynesian beach-bunny is in a New England snowstorm.

If you fly us all out to your place, we'd be happy to have a hammerin!

Blacksmith in hawaii...i think I just found my dream job.

Me too. Could make custom surf boards on the side!

And, re: necka, I love octopus -- cook some up, IG  . For David, Dan and Higgins, maybe we could slip some octopus burgers and squid fries into them after a few beers.:)
