Need a new knife....

Jeff, a few of these might be too large, but these are a few that I want.

How about one of Eddie White's knives? Shadow Knives the model IX Drop Point Hunter .. He has a few different sizes. I have a extra small and the original. The one pictured here is mine in the original size. I keep the XS in my hunting pack a lot. I would be happy to send you either one to test out!

Jeff, why don't you try out one of the local maker's blades. My personal recommendation is that you try one of Christof's (Koyote)'s knives. He has a his own forum in the makers section. Christof's stuff is all very unique looking, he has his own style, and he likes to build them thin. Most of his models are 3/32" thick 15N20 steel. Very tough stuff that batons like the best of them and also gets sharp as the dickens.

I think Rotte can vouch for Koyote's stuff. I'd be happy to send off a blade for R.A.T. to try play with on one of your trips. Here are the two models I have in my possession. I have his leuku bushcrafter coming to me shortly.

Traditional Leuku - 10" blade and 1/8" thick L7 steel.

Another maker worth considering is Bryan Breeden. He just had a good write up of his work in Tactical Knives Magazine. Great worker knives.

The model below was designed by Bearthedog - the CUB model.

A couple of makers to strongly consider - JK knives and David Farmer.

Foster Weishuhn Hunter, Green Micarta Handle.
I have one and it is my go to knife for everything. Cheap, sharp, with an on-scene rig to boot. I don't know if they are still made, but available on the interweb-place.

How about one of these? Pretty tough buggers, and it'd be fun to see how H1 would deal with survival-type tasks.

At the opposite end of the spectrum, this guy could be interesting to see put in a humid environment as well.

nice suggestions so far..

i'm going to have to second the TOPS Shango knife... it's a solid user... or possibly the Koster WSS forum knife...:)

The EDC Seax! This is another great small/med Bark River that doesn't get much press. It's light weight, really comfy in the hand, and pretty thin so it slices like crazy. It's stainless too :)

+1 on the Bark River Bumblebee. I really like the looks of that knife. Would love to see how it holds up under hard use.

Condor Bushcraft or Bushlore? Or the good ol' becker necker? Take a walk through the maker's section and see what's for sale.

I'd highly recommend the Bark River Canadian Special - it is tough, comfy and has a wicked convex edge. Last I heard it is the medium sized knife Mike Stewart carries :D

I'd also suggest a Busse Active Duty - tough as nails and my most comfortable knife. I EDC it often and love it. Real workhorse.

Take a SAK and a Q-tip!

Seriously though, maybe try some of the Zero Tolerance folders and see if you like them. Or the full size Benchmade Rukus.

I'll second the thought of supporting one of the local makers.

I have always been fond of Ray Laconico's work. He and I designed the HWK and HWK+ (they can be had in any length that you want). I think either would be a great choice except Ray isn't really making them any more. Some of his other designs would be great too. His tall flat grinds and polished convex edge give a pretty tough edge that still cuts EXTREMELY well.

If you want to go with something small, folding, and affordable, how about a Spyderco Delica. Just a few bucks more than the Izula, similar weight and thickness, same blade length but more handle. VG-10 steel. I'd love to see how it does for you in certain circumstances. Since others are offering donors, I'd be willing to loan mine out, it's the Plain edge. I will want it back when your done though :)

...to carry to the jungle with me this month. Not a RAT knife...I'm sick of those but someone else's knife. Some type of small fixed blade or folder. Will have a cheap machete but it would be nice to take something new, use it and take some photos. Any ideas?

I'll send you my Benchmade Nimravus:

Just say the word and it's yours.

I've got a 7" Koyote headed my way. My other Koyote's are on the small, edc size. But I'm a huge Koyote fan like KGD.
