Need a new knife....

Well if it were me, one of Scott Gossman's 01 tool steel blades, no question. PSKsr, PSK EX, Mini Tusker, or Kepthart.

I'm going to make an odd suggestion. How about taking a common multitool like the Leatherman Wave. Most of us carry a multitool in our survival/bushcraft kits. It would be nice to see how one holds up under true survival type use. Plus you'd have two blades and a saw.

I've been looking at the new gerber crucial to dump into kits. Looks small and inexpensive, and a fairly useable blade

Not sure if anyone has mentioned an AG Russel Bird/Trout or Woodsman, small lightweight blades made out of quality steels and very reasonable price.

Well, I "happened across" a Bark River Bumble Bee that I will be carrying. ;)

good choice.... barkies are good stuff

heh its not cheap , but i got a bark river machette today and man ... i cant believe i was missing out....

Do you think you'll include a review any an article when you get back? If not, a review somewhere on the forum would be awesome. I've been drooling over one of those lately.

Richard

Ok, knives that are going south with me are the Bumble Bee, a SAK Trekker and a Condor machete.

Another new item (to me anyway) that is going is the Suunto MC2 global needle compass. If it's truly global then it will move high on my list and over-take the Ranger since it's basically the same compass. Also wearing OTB's new jungle boots down, as well as the new Aquamira water filter straw (that's scary). Lotsa new gear going down on this one, and you can pretty much figure that all of it will appear in a review in SWAT magazine.

I'm also carry my SPOT and will post a link here before leaving so anyone who wants to keep track of us can do so.

If anyone is interested in the general area we will be working in, on Google Earth pull up 4 degrees 47'23.58" S by 73 degrees 30'10.67" W

We will be somewhere within that area

I'll check the SPOT THe Bumble Bee ? that is a little Barky... be interested in the review on it... & the Boots for sure

I'm still sporting that compass you gave me. That thing rocks the house!

I don't know Boss. I heard that in order to properly baton you need at least a 5" blade of at least 3/16" thickness. You don't seem to have that covered in your trifecta.

Also, making fuzz sticks requires a scandi grind.

Do you have a mousepad and 35 different grits of sandpaper in your PSK to maintain the edge on the Barkie?

I personally wouldn't want to go into the jungle with anything less than S30V steel for my primary blade, but make sure it's not too hard....that stuff can be brittle ya know....

Make sure you take 2 Condor machetes with you. I've heard the grind lines can be a little off from the factory. If you get a bad one, you could very well not make it out. Check the paint on them too, It comes off from time to time. You'll need the anti reflective finish as not to be spotted by the rebels in the area.

Also, if you have two Condors and a bolt, you can put them together and make a set of hedge trimmers (thats what the hole in the blade is for ya know)....

:D
