Need an honest, experienced comparison: Strider vs. ZT 0300

Posted by OZY

ME TOO!!!! Actually I am ordering a 0400 and another Boot dagger as of right now. Or should I just get the 0300 again? Hummmm. I want the Modded one in the pics a page or 2 back. that is Perfect!!

You'll love the dagger. It's all business.

I've always wanted to handle a Strider after seeing all of these pictures of them. I just don't have the money to afford one.

For sure, I didnt think I had the money for a Sebenza, I kept seeing them for USD $330.00 (Small) and thought, wow, thats $351.00 AUD for a pocket knife...I just cant justify that with a family..

But it kept playing on my mind, of course then the US economy went south, and the USD / AUD conversion dropped substantially - meaning I was now looking at paying AUD $550.00 for a pocket knife...

I found one over here in Australia NIB, for halfway in between, and justified to myself that it was an investment...and grabbed it...

I'm now the same way with a Strider, but unlike the Sebenza / Bradley Alias comparison, I dont think i'd be selling myself short buying a ZT in replacement...

Well, I am Russian - how about that? But know few things about knifes.

Thanks, Vassili.

You mean to say that Russians living in America can't learn to properly spell in English? I've lived in a foreign country, learned the language (and how to properly spell while writing in it), so I'm not buying it. Maybe taking a chill pill on talking so much forum smack and taking a writing course is in order?;)

Regards,

It's interesting, guys. My mom, from Regensburg, Germany, only had a slight accent after a awhile but she worked hard to speak, an write, English. My mother-in-law from Canada, well, her accent is brick thick! Although, she really did not, nor does now, make an attempt to speak English. Just my observations!! :)

Any cares as to a rough overview of what's being said?

here's my lame take on a selected period:
«Very classy knife. In my opinion Buck Strider lineup is the top of Buck's in craftmanship, they definitely can make quality cutlery; add fresh ideas and design by Strider, and we have excellent knives. Ive already get accustomed to one specimen of this lineup, namely, 880 model and can say that {Buck's} tactical knives dept and especially knives with Strider design earned my respect. Buck is succesfully trying to show itself in favourable light; its quality is unparalleled and price just smash the competition.»

Give the guy a break - we can understand what he's saying and that's the main thing - and he does know a thing or two about 'knifes'.

Let's face it - English is a bastard language anyway - it's a concoction from several sources - the rules don't play fair (if past tense of 'ring' is 'rang' why is p.t. of 'bring' 'brought'?) - and it's still evolving - e.g. decimate (literally kill 1 in 10) now used to mean an almost total massacre - and if you're going to complain about spelling - USA spelling is different from original British (color vs colour etc.) - Aussie's use 's' instead of 'z' - then there's all those horrid SMS shortcuts that take me longer to decipher than thumbing the full word because they change with the accent of the sender (evuh hud en SMS frum a Kuwee?)

The best thing about English is that it's the de facto universal language for IT and it's forcing the bloody French to use English words :thumbup::thumbup: Le McDonalds indeed!

Sorry again, but this "really, really loved by Spec Ops and Battlefild tested" etc, kind of annoying this kind of thing you may hear from "sales managres" from street level up to top executive - and in most cases they do not really know what they are talking about.

The above quote is what made me think , if NOZ knows as much as he says he does , why doesn't he know the plural of knife ? Nothing personal , but to be taken seriously , at least get the plural of the item being discussed correct.

I just found it ironic , how he can bust posters' balls about stuff , yet he has not picked up ( after 4K posts ) that the plural is spelled knives. Not knifes , not knyffs , not nives and certainly not knivies.

Fine he is Russian , so be it , but when in Rome....... ;)

Call a magazine a "clip" on a gun forum and you will get called on it by many , call an engine a motor and you will get called on it by many as well. ( Why Nascar calls auto racing "motor sports" is even more retarded , about as ridiculous as calling a knife tactical).

whatever.

since he has been corrected numerous times, his continued use of the incorrect plural can only be concluded as simply being difficult and hard headed.

some things may be lost in the translation, this is not one of them.

Sorry if it annoys some of you but I find his broken english entertaining and his comments informative - could be he is being hard-headed but maybe, just maybe - "leg your's he pulling is" ;)

you only feel this way because its all new to you.

his broken english is only one thing that annoys people, and a minor one at that. you completely miss the point.

and he appears to have no sense of humor or irony.

The bottom line is he has his opinion, which we all do, but if you disagree with him, he'll make fun of it &/or knock it. But heaven forbid if you do the same to him, then you're being mean, aggressive, etc. It gets tiring after awhile.

It is interesting that he liked the Striders & Buck/Striders a few yrs ago, but not anymore. Oh well.

As far as the ZT 300 series vs the Strider SnG, I would say, first, that the ZT 300 should really be compared to a RCC. They're both recurves & more similar in size (Although the RCC is a thick liner-lock, not a frame lock). As far as what's better in battle, etc. Niether. They're both good, but I'll take a manual opening knife any day over an A/O or auto. It's just simpler & one thing less to break. Granted, the ZT can be opened manually with the flipper. They're both VERY tough knives built to similar "overbuilt" standards & should do you well, whichever one you pick.

When one's talking about similar knives but comparing a production model vs a semi-production one & it's cost, that's purely subjective. There is no clear criteria for deciding which one's better, whether it be in combat, in streets (A Patrol Officer, for example), etc.

yes, agreed.

other than the price, the only thing that seems to bother him about strider is the marketing. he's mentioned it so many times he has simply become a broken record, and losing any credibility he may have had fast.

I bet a "Russian Forum" would be more tolerant of your illiteracy of the English Language, but... "When in Rome..."

Refusing to use "knives" after being TAUGHT to do so, is simple disrespect for this forum, it's members, and the United States.
