Need an honest, experienced comparison: Strider vs. ZT 0300

Thanks for bumping a thread from last year so that we could read your incredible contribution to the thread. It's also funny that you insult his English when yours isn't exactly high school level.

No they aren't.
No name steel and toxic plastic is not the same as comparing 2 knives which DO use the same materials(G-10, titanium, and S30V steel).
Personally, I think the Strider knives are good, but about $100 overpriced.
I like my Emerson Comrade better than a Strider though, so I'm happy.:)
What was this dude on? How could anyone ,especially someone into knives make such a colossal mistake claiming a gas station knife has the same materials?Really, show me where I can get a ti frame locked s30v blade! Then he digs the grave even deeper with the car reference. 4 wheels and an engine has nothing to do with materials and features.
I get it why folks buy Striders, they have a design and ethos like no other but the spec ops stuff, personally ,I font buy that marketing /legend fluff. I guess they carry Stridets but why not if you give them away to these guys for free? Give them to the girl guides and they could make that claim too.lol. All this so and so use our knives really is pure fluff and has no bearing on the knife itself. That's why they over charge, you are paying for them to make these claims because they give them to these units. Jeez folks just think about it. It's great marketing. Anyone could give away knives to some military unit and claim they use their knives really. Do these guys really use a knife any harder than some corn Fed farm boy? Doubt it.
From an objective pov the ZT spanks the Strider with better fit and finish, apparently an equal warranty, 3D machining, auto opening and equal materials.
I would hop those who choose Strider do so for it's design and not the marketing because if you go down that path it leads to some not so great places. I say forget the freaking gossip and buy a knife for what it is.
Let's be honest the whole gas syationthing was a mistake.
Knives are an opinionated subject. Some are attracted to the hype and that's fine, your money, your choice but this is about comparing knives right? This is very simple ,the Strider is far more expensive but is no better a knife unless the premium is worth it for the different ergonomics. Again, marketing does zip for me,I just don't care who enforces it,it will never improve the product I purchase. In Striders defense the're tons of folks who either like their ergonomics or buy the hype and you can easily sell it for good money. I just don't buy that it's any better a knife until I see an actual test proving this.

Ergos on the Strider SnG I have fit me better then any ZT I have ever tried. I could care less about operator stories...or in ZT's case....Hard Use....

I've recently picked up a few decent knives, the best of which is a user (cosmetically worn only) ZT 0300.

This, along with an Emerson CQC-12 framelock that I once had and sold off, is the highest quality folding knife that I've had the privilege of owning--and handling (meaning that I've never even seen a Strider in person.)

For some reason, I'm now wondering if it would be worth it to sell off the 0300 (and the other couple good knives I own) to try to pick up a decent, used ~$300 Strider SMF or SnG.

Can someone explain the differences between the two knives (the ZT and a Strider)? I'm not talking about size, weight, handle shape or even materials.

I guess I just want to know if the Strider feels like a knife that costs twice that of the ZT.

(I'm not looking for anyone to bash either brand--I just want to hear an honest comparison.)

Thanks!

Why don't you look more broadly if you are going to spend that much? e.g a Hinderer? Or even a ZT Hinderer?

Did you see the date the OP posted it at? :p
I'm sure by now he already tried other knives since then.

ZT cpm s30v is NOT the same as Strider's cpm s30v. Just because both companies get their steel from Crucible doesn't mean the heat treat is the same. I'd be willing to bet Strider does a much better job during that process. Besides, isn't ZT just making cheap knives that look like quality knives. They (ZT) have never seemed very appealing to me....all of them just look like copys of good knives.

Sorry, but marketing is one thing and lying about your military service is another

And I think the principals involved in this thread likely figured this whole thing out years ago.....

every strider that was production I had was crap.the zt 300 was much better built and stronger.just remove the assisted opening.hard use folders shouldnt have just g10 as a handle on one side it throws the whole balance and weight distribution off.you will get loads of play and lock rock.how about a box mick or paperwork.zt far better just dont like assisted.syrider customs are good but you need a loan to buy one.the production.get one you will see.I put a 300 in any hard use test to a production smf or sng any day of the week

I really want an SMF, but mostly because I have a Buck/Strider 882 that I love. Any collaborations out there I should be looking at besides the Microtech DOC?

F Hinderer they suck. Cant flip worth a crap. Strider much better Ive handled a lot of both and ZT's quite honestly a ZT 0550 is better than most anything Hinderer or Strider makes Im serious! The owner of my local knife shop collects both to the point where he is on a first name basis with both Rick and Mick. He has 40 grand worth of each he always has one or two on him and he lets me play with em for awhile when I am there. First and foremost, Hinderer flippers SUCK! Sure if you put so much wrist into them that you risk throwing them sideways you can flip em! Waaay to thick and heavy in a blade to short to flip. Strider on the other hand surprised the hell out of me I didnt think Id like them at all. They open suprisingly easy for such a thick blade guess they are just balanced better and the construction is flawless and indestructable. Fit in the hand is better than the vastly over rated Hinderers which I didnt think they would cause they look so blocky still...the PRICES of them both! There is only one knife both the store owner and I agree has them all both beat and that is the mighty ZT 0550!

Ergos are far better than the actual Hinderers, the blade rockets open with little effort, lock up is epic, S35VN is the same blade steel Hinderers have, has a pivot just as strong, has better jimping than either Hinderer and strider even the thiiiick lockbar on the 0550 is easy to work with the deep jimping on the lockbar. Custom scales a plenty as well all for cheap!

Oh but vs ZT 0300? Mine is okay I guess I just get more done with my 0350's and 0550. Out of the ZTs vs strider Id place 0550 in 1st place Strider in 2nd and 0300 5th honestly. The 0550 is just far easier to live with and actually carry much better ergos as well...barely ever taken my 0300 out of the house cause its to damn wide to fit in my pockets with other stuff I carry
