Need for Guns?

Sorry I missed that the alien question was rhetorical.

From 8 usc 922.

Thus you must be here under an IMMIGRANT visa.

Useful info, thanks!I was always curious about the specifics on that issue.
I have been involved in recreational shooting here in Atlantic Canada but the political climate towards gun-owners in Canada has been precarious of late.
Also i have had a lot of friends/family move south. I have relatives in Ohio and Louisiana and a female friend living in Nevada.
I'm hoping to start an MA in Vancouver later this year.
After thats done i'm open to go anywhere i can find related work.
I've always found the U.S southwest to be fascinating especially Arizona and New Mexico.
Must be because Deserts are the exact opposite of the climate here! lol.
Even if i stay in BC (once i get there) i will definitely do some traveling down south.

I screwed that up a little. Here's the link to the entire provision: http://www.law.cornell.edu/uscode/18/922.html

And here's a better cut and paste:

(2) Exceptions.— Subsections (d)(5)(B), (g)(5)(B), and (s)(3)(B)(v)(II) do not apply to any alien who has been lawfully admitted to the United States under a nonimmigrant visa, if that alien is—
(A) admitted to the United States for lawful hunting or sporting purposes or is in possession of a hunting license or permit lawfully issued in the United States;...
[Additional exceptions refer to official foreign govt representatives or people with waivers]

To muddy the waters a little more, being Canadian you are exempt from needing a visa from the US govt to enter. So you would probably only need to show a Canadian passport and a hunting license or perhaps even just declare a lawful sporting purpose (attending a shooting school? target shooting?).
