man, that sucks. any chance of just sending it back and getting a refund. then buying a KMG :D. i really don't know what to tell you but that i'm sorry.

Base of motor is screwed! Mabey putting a full flat base under the motor mount where it attaches to the angle iron would work by raising the botom wher it has fallen down. This may or may not work but it is worth a shot.

Something I forgot to write in this post was a guy named PAUL was one of the nicest guys I have ever talked to, I could tell he wanted to help me but it seemed like DAN was over what gets fixed and what dosent but I really appreciate Paul, hes a great guy.

It took you 8 months to figure out it was bent that bad? And then someone else had to point it out to you? This should have been addressed when you received the machine.

FWIW when I got mine from them I went straight to the factory and picked it up- they really are great people and their service for me has been great. I don't have my machine in front of me currently to compare right now, but was it shipped to you? Any chance they screwed it up during shipping? Also, many companies that are small and personal make promises to call right back and then it takes them a week. Companies like that have sudden busy spells or shop problems that get in the way. I would give them another call on Monday and talk to whoever you want! Sounds to me like they may be figuring out what they can do for you (taking 4 days, etc.). Keep us posted!

I've worked with Paul as well... He's absolutely terrific... helped me work out a solution on my older Bader, sent them a bunch of measurements and pictures and he even had the guys in the shop fabricate a new arm so I could put on a larger contact wheel. Give them a chance... Bader is a first class outfit:thumbup:

Did you doublecheck to verify the work rest is absolutely square to it's shaft?

The rest was checked out and its completely square. The machinest and I took the grinder to his shop and put it on a table they use to check gear shaft arms with, They grinder was dropped and it caved the unit into itself. Guys I am not a negative person and probally the easiest person in the world to please. heck I even told them they could send me the most beat up and scratched up grinder they could find as long as it was level, I just expected a call at least within in a few days and never got it, or not yet anyways..

I'm just asking questions, Charlie, trying to help. Obviously it's at the least got a banged up motor mount making it cockeyed. You could try adding some more washers and shimming that more.

You mentioned the machinist said it's off in a couple other places. How so? Changing out the motor won't be much help if other stuff is bent.

I have a bader B-III. From what I can tell from the pics the motor Mount is bent. That shouldn't give you a tracking problem. I would loosen the mount bolts and add washers as needed to level the machine. I did have alot of problems with the platten tracking right. Someone suggested I wrap the center of the wheel on the tracking/ tensioner wheel with 3 layers of masking tape. That helped but it still tracked weird then I wrapped the center of both contact wheels on the platten and now she tracks perfectly. I hope this helps.

Seeing how you figured you've used "$1000.00" worth of the machine and they offered you a trade in + $500.00 for a new machine. That equals; 1300 + 500 - 1000 = $800.00 for a new machine. I'd definitely take that deal.

This is Charlie's first grinder. The freaking drive pulley is eating into the casing, belts rub against the guard and the washers are painted over with factory paint. This is an obvious attempt to sell a badly damaged grinder to someone. They've stalled Charlie long enough he couldn't get a stop payment on the check, this is absolutely ridiculous. Like I said, if they don't get this resolved... people at Batson's may get to witness some rednecks whooping ass.

Edited to add:

NO, they lied to him about the machine, it's damaged mechanically. He could've went and bought a KMG or some other machine from a quality company.

My first grinder was an extremely cantankerous Bader 2 that I bought in the 80's, so I understand your frustration. Dan always treated me right, but maybe he needs continued pestering to get some help.

You have the right idea. Take out the arm/platen, and make sure the main plate isn't twisted. Then check to see if the arm is square in the hole. If there's slop, maybe the box slipped a bit and you could tighten it up some. There's enough slop in a KMG that you can get the bar canted if the box isn't assembled tight enough.

If everything is okay to that point, you then need to figure if the platen assembly is square to the bar.

If all that is okay, then your only real problems are the motor and the rest bracket. The motor you should be able to shim more, or try Rusty's idea. The work rest bracket might be negotiable for replacement.

My bottom line would be to find out exactly what's wrong, so you can go back to Bader with a specific list of problems.

I understand your frustration and disappointment, and hope you can get it worked out. I wish you the best with it.

There should be a set screw on the drive wheel. It will need to be lined up well to help overcome the tracking problem. Use that level as a straight-edge to line up the sides of the idler and drive wheel, then re-tighten.
