I put in an order with Mr. Crain a month ago, I have paid for my knife but haven't heard a word from him. Can somebody give a telephone number where I can reach him. Has anyone dealt with him before and know how I can get in touch with him. I am desperate to get a number, this email and answering service is not working.

Michael

I've read your other post and followed the threads on Crain. I feel sorry for you and your medical problem but you sent this character money and now you want contact info. Hello!

From all posted here it looks like Crain has no intention of delivering your knife or any that have been paid for. It is interesting to see all the posts about Crain, Reif, Corkum and Blade yet people continue to order from them. There are so many honest knifemakers, why deal with known problem makers.

Just my opinion.

When will they learn.Eh,Win.
One is born every minute.Sometimes I wish I were dishonest. It would really be fun taking all these peoples money.
Randy

P.S. Sorry about your condition,sir.

Well,
He is the man who makes the knife I want, and no one else does. Yeah, I saw all the "stuff" on Mr. Crain, and I have been called worse things than him on this forum. To answer your question, He gave me some info but that is not working so I'm looking for more. Is that wrong? Another thing, most people have been pretty insensitive about my decision even though they know about my "condition, which doesn't matter to me at all, it is just wrong for people to be that way. When you have a limited time left here before the end, and you know there is nothing you can do about it, you try and find happiness in times of great despair. So, I took a risk, yeah, but I still hope Jack Crain will come through. This knife was something that gave me some hope, and something to look forward to, in a time when I was really down and out mentally and emotionally. So, do I regret my decision, No!

The sad thing is you could have probably found someone selling what you want on the secondary market.Especially if you would have put in a few want ad's at the various forums.I hope you get your knife.Best Regards,Ralph

I did not mean to dig at you.For that I am truely sorry.
Randy

Jack Crain is a POS for treating you as he has.

They might not offer them as stock models, but many makers are willing to do user influenced designs.

I do not normally chime in on stuff like this, but after you read all the bad stuff about Jack Crain taking peoples money and never getting anything in return, that should have been the first sign. The one or two who have reported getting some kind of knife from him have indicated that it took a whole lot longer than a few months.
If you are indeed terminally ill and only have a few months left, I would suggest that you either cut your losses and enjoy what time you have left or get on a plane or rent a car and drive to the address where you sent the money and take someone who can help you deal with him. It is evident by his past behaviour that he will continue to not live up to his obligations.
If someone ever gets me for that much money, you can rest assured that if I really want the money back, I will be on their doorstep unannounced and not on the internet trying to get a phone number so that he can lie to me again. People are a whole lot different when they are face to face with someone.

Well said, Bobby....

I hope that this is resolved to your satisfaction and I only wish you the best in your time of uncertainty, michaellhoodjr.

Take care,

Dudley

Awhile back, many years ago a friend of the family died very young from a brain tumor. He was fine one day, the next complained about head aches, when in for a checkup and was dead before morning.

A few months later I started having symptoms that pointed towards similar, headaches, was getting weird smells that no one else could smell, etc. . It was quicked checked out and found to be nothing, but in that short term while I was waiting for the test results, well you get to having a different perspective.

I doubt it is the money that is bothering Michael, he just wants the knife. Yes one part of him likely knew he was going to get ripped off, but a small part of him hoped otherwise, and there are times when hope is all you have so you hold on to it as tight as you can.

I don't see how Crain could go much lower, there has to be a whole new level of con artists who rip off terminally ill people.

Michael, I would suggest you go into the shop talk or custom form, explain your situation and see if you can find a custom maker willing to make a crain inspired piece, unless of course you really need it to be a crain, in which case look for some high end dealers like Les Robertson who might be able to track one down.

If somebody is alive they can be found if you want to.There are detectives that will find people for you no matter where they are if you are willing to spend the money. It boils down to how bad do you want to find this pos?

Mr. Hood,

I truly feel for your situation. You have indicated that you do not have wads of cash hanging around waiting to be spent.

I would agree with much that has been said. I would also agree with having the design made by another maker, as others have indicated. Cut your losses and get the knife made by someone else.

Crain is a crook, and a dirty one at that. You MUST shoulder some of the responsibility for pushing forward with your goal, and learn from that, even if it is for a short time. You were warned, and chose to neglect the warning. Those that do so suffer, fairly or unfairly.

It is time to face the fact that you cannot always get exactly what you want, when you want it. Many spend their entire lives not learning this lesson. Many times, some degree of compromise is called for.

If you simply MUST have this knife by Crain, find it where you can, and enjoy it. It is obvious that he is a cold POS that will not make this knife for you, irrespective of your fate.

I, and I am sure, all the BladeForums brethren wish you luck, and peace, wherever the road takes you.

Best Regards,

Steven Garsson

Never, ever, ever send money before the knifemaker tells you in no uncertain terms that the knife you ordered is 100% finished and ready to be sent to you on the same day he recieves the money.(or chekc clears)
Then ask to see some pics of the finished product. IF you still like what you see THEN send the money.

Doing business any other way, as a customer, you're just asking for trouble.

Good luck in getting your knife, and I'm very sorry to hear of your terrible health condition.

Sorry to hear about this. Jack is still delivering knives but the person I know waited 3+ years and got it in Jan or Feb this year. I have sent him an email (my friend) requesting Jacks contact info. All the best to you.

Mr Hood, whatever your affliction is, I hope that God does the right thing by you.

As for commissioning handmade knives, what is wrong in paying for half up front, and the other half when you pick up? I thought this was common practice.
