Well,
He is the man who makes the knife I want, and no one else does. So, do I regret my decision, No!
.
With all due respect, I have a very hard time believing that no other knife maker can't make a similar knife, preferably one with scruples.

When you have a limited time left here before the end, and you know there is nothing you can do about it, you try and find happiness in times of great despair. !
Mike, if I was 100% sure this was true, I'd send you a nice custom myself, as I would any friend. If this is true, I'm sorry, and I hope you find happiness, perhaps if you let Jack know you're situation, he might be more sympathic.

Mr Hood, whatever your affliction is, I hope that God does the right thing by you.

As for commissioning handmade knives, what is wrong in paying for half up front, and the other half when you pick up? I thought this was common practice.

unless ya are asking for a knife made with ivory/damascus/gold/etc i would never pay anything up front on a custom, and then only pay for the materials, i have never had anyone ask me for a dime upfront, never. its not a common practice, not at all.

imho its when folks start taking deposits/etc that they get into "trouble".

Hi Michael. Sorry to hear about all this. If it's a Crain you're after, check out customknives.ch. He's a dealer in Switzerland who always has 3 or 4 for sale. Good luck, and all the best. P.S. I've never dealt with this guy, so I can't vouch for him or comment, but I check out his site regularly and he's been around a while...

i'm sorry to hear abou your troubles mr hood.i thought that jack crain would be a different sort of person[more honourable?] due to him being a knifemaker so long.iirc he's been in a life changing accident many years back.
it's a shame as i really like his stuff.
mr hood take up eljockvis on his offer.he has too many crains as it is:D

Off topic, but I'm happy to see michaellhoodjr seems to still be with us, or at least was still with us as of 01-30-2006. Hang in there michael and I hope you've gotten your Crain knife by now.

I have to say this because it needs to be said.
If you give a thief money, you are giving him another opportunity to steal from others, and that is just wrong and evil.
Thanks, I had to get that off my chest.

I paid for the knife I commisioned Jack Crain to make 4 years ago and am still waiting for it. I have sent Crain several e-mails and have not had any response from him in a year. He is truely the lowest out there!!!

There are a few others that are equally as low, but Jack Crain is definitely one to avoid.

Hello All. New member with additional two cents worth for prospective Crain customers. I ordered a Predator model from Jack back in 1993. Did everything the right way and sent the final payment when he informed me that it was ready. After six months with no knife and no assurances from him, I contacted the Texas Att. Generals office and loged a formal complaint. Apparently he does listen to them, because about two months later I got the knife I ordered plus a sweet boot knife for free along with an apology. You just have to sic the right people on him.

I have dealt with Texas Attorney Generals office many years ago, they don't play. They resolved the issues quickly, and is a great course of action to take.
