I generally really like to surprise people with gifts, sometimes though you just have to ask what they might like. Especially with a pocket knife. I know how many knives I've been through what I like and don't like. I'm guessing whatever I get her she'll like cuz she doesn't realize how many are out there. I like the zt450 idea it's just damn cool and I know she'd love it. Spyderco makes lots of appropriately-sized knives for her the para-military is a fine knife. But I'm kind of leaning toward that Swiss army knife with the tattoo design from Post Number 9. I couldn't find it on their site so I Googled. What I came up with was images of people who have Swiss Army knives tattooed on their arms. Quite a few. So then I did a different search and I came up with a beautiful knife no doubt and apparently I'm number of people have done it. So for anybody who has heard of David Yurman and his jewelry look at this $495 beauty it's called waves... he also has a couple of others you can pick one up at Neiman MarcusScreenshot_20181001-161918_Google.jpg Screenshot_20181001-161943_Google.jpg Screenshot_20181001-162008_Google.jpg... that's the coolest SAK I've ever seen.....

Pink native LW. Or a delica of some flavor. Spyderco's around that price will always beat a mini grip in my book. Mini grip is my least liked folder. Feels cheap to me. My wife likes it though so theres that. Lots of good recommendations. My wife also loves her pink rat 2 I got her years ago.

If you want to see a bunch of knives some may not think to recommend or if you want something outside of the box than the popular recommendations go to BHQ and filter your results to $100, 2-3" blade. Over 1,700 that fit those parameters. Really good way to find lesser known but good knives. Plus it's fun to shop and look.

A lot of really cool, locking boxcutters out there. Super flat profile(fit skinny jeans). I had a Rexford Rut that was pretty neat, but I like this one even more(and it's half the price).
Got my niece the all-stainless Dragonfly Tattoo a few years ago and she likes it a lot....

Good luck on your search! Your price cap will most certainly be able to open a broad choice and variety.

For what it’s worth, I’ve given my daughters Kershaw Dividends and they love them. They cut packaging well and sharpen very easy. They also like the speedsafe feature due to the “cool factor”.

I suppose they are not heirloom pieces but I have plenty of those for passing on to them.

All the knives mentioned above are great options as well.

wow ... this could work....usa $50 would leave some cash for a cool bead too........and comes in blue and engraveable...:):)..thx

You can also consider the steel will modus, cutjack, or intrigue. I have a modus in m390 and it’s a fine knife that flips beautifully. The intrigue is a slimmer flipper knife and in d2 can be had for ~$40.

I gifted my little girl, now 18, a blue buck, a syderco Delico (light blue)( I was told no pink)and some others as she grew up - a year or two ago she showed me what she wanted - a ZT 450 CF with a black blade! She carries it in her purse. Fits her small hands perfectly, I cut myself trying to close the thing....

What is that one called again? The Titanium pocket tool?

It's pretty hard to find a knife that can fit on tight panths and still be very strong.
If it's just about opening boxes, a tip like the one of my p831 is pretty good, and comes for less than 50$. It slices pretty nicely, isn't too long, can fit in tight pockets.

But it certainly don't has a style women like, and it's not the strongest.

It depends on the frequency of use for me.

Mandatory bladeforums answer. Works every time.

Now, on a serious note, great suggestions everyone. My opinion as follows: If she works in a big box store, she is probably given box cutters / utility knvies for thrassing arround. At least she should. Using a nice knife for opening boxes in a daily basis is going to ruin the edge and the knife in short order, no matter the steel. Then it will not cut as well and unless she learns how to sharpen, she will go back to the box cutters with disposable blades. That if it doesn't get lost/borrowed-never-to-be-seen-again first.

That's why I would decide against getting her a knife for work duty. At least for now.

If she likes knives... Which one of your knives is the one you noticed her liking the most? That could give you some ideas about what she preffers. Also, how long are her LONG nails? I guess not much if she does handwork at the big box store but never hurts to ask. I don't picture anyone with (pardon the comparison) with porn actress long nails opening anything with holes in the blade (spyderco). Even thumb studs could be hard to manipulate. I think a flipper could come handy.

And for the lack of pockets to carry the knife... Well, I she wears yoga pants and they are tight (and if she is 18, they WILL be thight), she could carry inside the waist band. Just make sure the handle texture is not Emerson-rough or Cold Steel-rough... Weight is an issue as well, so try to stay light.

Might want to look at the Böker Plus Urban Trapper. Other than that: Delica (if she uses it a Lot go ZDP)

EDIT: The Vic has been brought up, I don't think that's a good choice. The steel will dull rather quickly if she uses it a lot and you mentioned long nails - not optimal for using a nailnick.

It's true that cardboard messes up knife edges easily, but my mora flex is used on a daily basis for this (.5 thick cardboard mainly) and i "only" sharpen it every two weeks if i want it to stay very sharp...
It's 12c27 so i guess something like m390 would withstand 2 months...

Thinness in tight pants is going to matter a lot, so Delica/Dragonfly, Leek, or Bugout strike me as good candidates. Long nails probably take traditionals out of the running. If not, Victorinox sells a very thin two bladed knife, one layer, I don’t recall the name.
