Recommendation? Need Knife for 18 year old Kool Girl....

What is that one called again? The Titanium pocket tool?
I could not find that model.

Hmm. I picked that image of the web as a nice example. Victorinox releases dozens of limited editions from their Classic line every year. Maybe that specific one is an older model?
I saw the limited edition, this one was not available... If someone has one , please let me know please.. I know she would put it on her keychain.....thanks....
If she likes knives... Which one of your knives is the one you noticed her liking the most?
She likes this one...Screenshot_20180804-095454_Gallery[1].jpg .huh? maybe a delica/dragonfly w/ kydex as a necker.. whole new thread...;)..

Thinness in tight pants is going to matter a lot, so Delica/Dragonfly, Leek, or Bugout strike me as good candidates. Long nails probably take traditionals out of the running. If not, Victorinox sells a very thin two bladed knife, one layer, I don’t recall the name.
Gentlemans folder, i think.

Titanium Pocket Tool, from Big Idea Design. They run about $70, and use standard utility blades.
Something else I was thinking would be cool would be to get a plain-side stainless steel Dragonfly, then have a laser-etched design on it to match her tattoo...

I agree with others who noted that if she's doing a lot of box work, a dedicated box cutter makes more sense to me.

But this doesn't preclude also carrying a daily carry if she wants one, which it sounds like she might.

If you want a small size and can live with a basic steel, there is the Buck Mini Spitfire.

If she wants something a bit bigger, with a better steel and in pink, the full sized Spitfire is available in the custom shop with upgrade scales and different scale options.

............"if"........yes it's a big box store, and you are right about the box cutter, but she works customer service and monitors the self check out area and small tasks.. not an employee who stocks shelves.....Overall it will be a cool EDC that is useful at work.. So far I like the idea of a SAK for her keychain w/ scissors for tags and a small blade and a.......Blue ZT 0450 w/ a bead.... cuz it's BA and that's her style...

...........There went my budget....:D........

.....uhh?? ..looking at those, who am I really shopping for??...........;)..
..i have my own boxcutter..

Smatchet.

Mandatory bladeforums answer. Works every time.

Now, on a serious note, great suggestions everyone. My opinion as follows: If she works in a big box store, she is probably given box cutters / utility knvies for thrassing arround. At least she should. Using a nice knife for opening boxes in a daily basis is going to ruin the edge and the knife in short order, no matter the steel. Then it will not cut as well and unless she learns how to sharpen, she will go back to the box cutters with disposable blades. That if it doesn't get lost/borrowed-never-to-be-seen-again first.

That's why I would decide against getting her a knife for work duty. At least for now.

If she likes knives... Which one of your knives is the one you noticed her liking the most? That could give you some ideas about what she preffers. Also, how long are her LONG nails? I guess not much if she does handwork at the big box store but never hurts to ask. I don't picture anyone with (pardon the comparison) with porn actress long nails opening anything with holes in the blade (spyderco). Even thumb studs could be hard to manipulate. I think a flipper could come handy.

And for the lack of pockets to carry the knife... Well, I she wears yoga pants and they are tight (and if she is 18, they WILL be thight), she could carry inside the waist band. Just make sure the handle texture is not Emerson-rough or Cold Steel-rough... Weight is an issue as well, so try to stay light.

I agree with this. If she doesn't know how to sharpen knives, it'll end up butter knife dull. And a dull knife is as useful as a dull pencil. Consider getting her a sharpmaker or similar system along with the knife. As far as the knife goes, I recommend getting her a Delica. Lightweight, easy to carry and slices very well.

I’ve changed my suggestion... I now recommend a blade hq exclusive m4 yojimbo. Then zip tie mod it so she can dissembowel zombies in less then 0.005 of a second!

Just wanted to show you my mini flipper comes in m390 and there's a bunch of similar makers with different blade shapes and styles these days. Ruike is one and Two Sun made this one.

I saw another one on Kickstarter but it had aus 8 steel.

Benchmade Bugout.

Lightweight? Check.
Blue? Check.
Thin? Check.

Axis lock is easy to use with fingernails.

It'll stay sharp plenty long, and even if she doesn't sharpen herself, LifeSharp now and again will keep it so.

Ton of great recommendations in here. She should look at them herself at some point.

Kershaw Leek. Nice and slim, comes in all kinds of colors, and fits well in the small pockets of women's pants. My wife loves hers.

This...my girlfriend loves her's and I clean the purse muck out of the pivot for her regularly hahaha so maybe a leek with a little slip or something. Also some of the antique victorian style fruit knives as well as the mother of pearl case knives also get my girlfriend's attention. ..

I've got 3 daughters who are now in their late 20s and early 30s. I've given them many knives over the years and they've all gravitated to the same general preferences:

- SAK for the purse (think Pioneer or Cadet)
- 3-4" fixed blade for camping or backpacking (think ESEE 3 or 4)
- Spyderco Dragonfly or Delica, generally worn inside the waistband as an EDC

Smart girls...
