I like taking frustration out in the gym. I also think about how lucky I am with my wife and son.

when im having a bad day i simply go watch the birds, i live in a city and watching pigeons for a few minutes takes me away from reality and gets me feeling pretty good about life.

Thanks for the opportunity! I have to concur with what a lot of people are saying. I have had a lot of bad days lately and nothing works better than spending time with my daughters.

I try not to give my unhelpful thoughts any weight or time. Be in the present moment, by concentrating on my five senses one at a time, appreciate natural beauty, find 3 reasons to feel gratitude about my day, or be mindful.

Thankyou for the chance.

thanks for givaway ...

i try to think of other hard times in the past , and know that i can change my present and get through .

Wow. There is so much good advice here, I put it all together.

Be With Family & Friends
  • Try to remember the really important things like my wife, kids, grandkid, etc.
  • Hanging out in the bed of my truck with my 4 month old son always does the trick!
  • Kids are a super big help. It's hard to mope about with, "Papa, read this book... drink this tea, look at this... etc." I love my babies
  • I have had a lot of bad days lately and nothing works better than spending time with my daughters.
  • Coming home to my wife helps.
  • Ranting to people over chat in spare time helps! Oh boy it helps.
  • I also think about how lucky I am with my wife and son.
Count Your Blessings
  • Look at all that I am fortunate for and try to stay positive.
  • You can always think of someone who has had a worse day. It works for me every time. Just watch Schindler’s List and try to tell someone how bad your day was after that.
  • I just think how lucky I am that it isn't worse.
Exercise Hard
  • I get on my bike (BMX) and go riding for the rest of the day.
  • Thats why I have a heavy bag, for the bad days.
  • Chopping wood works for me!
  • I either shoot stuff or workout until I can't move.
  • Do a 45 minute run and work on the bag at the gym.
  • Heavy bag.
  • I like taking frustration out in the gym.
Concentrate on a Task
  • I make knives. Going into the workshop and grinding away some steel for hours also calms the nerves nicely.
  • Some days though I like to sit outside and just sharpen my knife.
  • I like to find a knife I own that is really really dull and make it the sharpest knife I own.
  • Sometimes taking some time to work on a knife helps me get a mental break.
  • I like to make food based on a recipe that I am very comfortable with, so that it turns out perfect.
  • When I’m having a bad day i try to consume myself in a task: work on my bike, work on my truck, sharpen a knife.
  • When I'm having a "bad" day, I do some tinkering on my knives and guns...Pimpin'
  • I like to read.
  • Buying a few new knives always seems to help.
  • I plan my next hunting trip...I’ve hunted a lot lately!!
  • First thing is NEVER take out your bad day on someone else. I usually grab a beer and wrap myself around a project in the shop. Whether it's working on a knife or just hammering the crap out of something.
  • I just like to sharpen my knives while listening to music.
Play with Your Dog (or Chickens)
  • When I have a bad day I find the company of babies and puppies the best. They really know how to play!
  • I like to go outside with my dog and absorb nature, that REALLY works well for me.
  • Generally when I'm in a crap mood, I get home and roughhouse with my dogs, go juggling, throw some knives, and play online.
  • Also get a puppy. No person will ever be as happy to see you when you get home as your dog.
  • I grab a chicken from out back and I cut it's head off and hack it in to about 8-10 pieces............................................ .........Fried chicken just make me feel better. But really I rub my dog's belly, the look on her face is priceless. Stop and pet the puppies.
  • Then when I get home me and the dog play a lot of frisbee.
  • De-stressing is so important to living a happy life. When I get home I see my chickens running around and it makes me smile no matter what happens.
Just Breath
  • Always remembering to breath.
  • When I'm having a bad day I try to stop wherever I'm at and take a few deep breaths...
Go for a Ride or Take a Hike/Get Back to Nature
  • I take the bike out for a ride, Sometimes speeding down a back road helps ease my mind and melts everything away.
  • I'll throw on a pack and take a quick hike. Just being outdoors seems to help me.
  • I take a big swig of milk, saddle up my dogs, and walk. Walking speed directly proportional to level of anger. I like to go to remote little areas in town that have lots of trees—the railroad, the local park, etc. When I show up I sit down and just have some alone time with the dogs, drinking from a stream and roughing around with a stick or a ball. Dogs don't talk back, or complain, or criticize.
  • I usually ride my 4-wheeler for a while. Getting into the randomness of the woods usually takes my mind off from things.
  • Drive in the country
  • When im having a bad day i simply go watch the birds, I live in a city and watching pigeons for a few minutes takes me away from reality and gets me feeling pretty good about life.
Say a Prayer
  • Pray. And don't be a dick. Kindness begets good things - today but more likely tomorrow.
  • I think about the fact that God is in control of my day. Things could be worse.... I could be going through the day with out Him.
  • Say the serenity prayer a few times and see if that helps me re-group.
  • Prayer helps.
  • First and foremost I take a knee and go to the Lord in prayer. That works 99.99% of the time. If it doesn't, then I tell Satan to grab his bag and take a hike.
Put Things in Perspective
  • Repeating "Does my or anybody else's life depend on this?" over and over again in my head.
  • Bad day . I give thanks to god for it . Because with out a bad day my good ones would go unnoticed.
  • Try to keep it all in perspective.
  • I work by myself so it can be tough to get out of a funk sometimes. When its really bad sometimes i just take the day off and reflect on how blessed i am to have the life i do.
  • I try to think of other hard times in the past, and know that I can change my present and get through.
  • I try not to give my unhelpful thoughts any weight or time. Be in the present moment, by concentrating on my five senses one at a time, appreciate natural beauty, find 3 reasons to feel gratitude about my day, or be mindful.
  • No matter how bad your day is going, just remember that tomorrow could be even worse so better make the best of it. When I'm having a bad day I remember how so many people have it so much worse then I do. Reminds me that in the big picture whatevers bothering me really isn't that bad after all....
  • Life is incredible man, never forget that.
  • When I have a bad day, I take solace from the fact that in less than a hundred years, no one will care or remember... it kinda puts thing in perspective. It also helps to throw the mind into neutral, let your thoughts drift and do some yard work. Helps to know you've made a little corner of the universe a little nicer for your effort!
  • May fortune smile upon you, bro!
  • Sit down and remember life is to short, there are people with real problems in the world
  • When a particular person is rubbing me wrong I try and put myself in their shoes and imagine what might be eating them.
  • When I have had a bad day it usually helps if I ask someone how their day has been and really listen to them talk for awhile. It helps to realize I'm not alone and that others have problems too.
  • My Old Man was fond of sayin', "How many times do ya hafta hit yer thumb with a hammer before ya realize ya need someone else to hold the nail?"Two wrongs don't make a right but three lefts do...My Old Man
  • There have been a few times I really would have quit or hit somebody if I didn't just think about my boy and me being a single dad.
  • Usually when I realize I'm having a bad day I apologize a lot. If I'm miserable I have a nasty tendency to spread it around. Apologizing in advance gets me much more slack and sometimes stops me from being a jerk altogether.
Shoot Stuff or Hit it With a Hammer
  • I have one of those jobs where most of the things that cause my bad day can be hit with hammers. Nine times out of ten, that's what solves the problem!
  • I either shoot stuff or...
  • Go shoot a hundred or so rounds with a .22 or work on some knives while listening to music.
  • I grab a couple of big-bore six-guns (.44 mag or .44-40) and go blow targets to shreds, or a rifle and shoot cans, helium canisters (empty part ballon filler type), etc. That assumes that I am on land...
  • Go to the gun range.
Listen to Music
  • Reggae....gives me strength and positive vibes for life. It's carrying message and positive rhythm gives good mood. Maybe few frosty ones added to that, amplifies it all. For mere power-up, I might go with some nasty sweaty ragga-jungle tunes.
  • When I lived in Milwaukee and worked in a print shop I'd have to turn on classical music as soon as I got to my car so I wouldn't go off. It would calm me before seeing my wife.
  • Kick your feet up and throw on some Pink Floyd. If you're still enraged or depressed by the end of The Division Bell, return it for a refund.
When I'm depressed/stressed/annoyed, I blare my favorite music for hours. It helps get my mind off everything and just relax for a while.
Have a Drink (or a Smoke)
  • Does whiskey count as a tip?
  • I also drink...
  • Beer, wine, or vodka...
  • And sometimes having a really good beer helps.
  • Large strawberry shake.
  • If at work, well let's just say I am working on that, but for that for me, smoking cigarettes is good for other peoples health at times... lol.
Take a Break
  • Take a nap. Think about things after you get up.
  • Take a break, smoke & calm myself. Used Obi Wan's mantra: be mindful...
  • If you're having a bad day, head over to the outdoors store and pick up a soda and some beef jerky and run your AC in the parking lot while you cool off and enjoy.
  • Drink somethin nice and hot while i relax and watch some tv or a movie in my bed, i also like to pray before i go to bed, not to get things, just to have the strength to get through things, it always helps me get through stuff.

First I remind myself that God is in Charge then I reflect on how fortunate I am to be alive and well...to have a great family...to have a roof over my head...to have a job...AND have the means to make KNIVES! (i didn't say they have to be pretty. hahaha). Hope all is well with you n yours!

Thanks for the chance!

We tend to focus on change. Seasons, traffic, relationships, whether our Chipotle burrito is bigger or smaller than normal, etc. In doing so, during rough times in our lives, we focus more on what was and what is no longer than what is unchanging. Usually that is where the good lies, in the unchanged. God always loves, God always succeeds, God always comforts. Too often I forget that.

Hope you are doing well brother, remember He loves you.

Congrats to seelow.
Thanks for the contest Lava Lamp.
What brightens my spirits when I'm getting down in the dumps is realizing that I have a great family, a good job, and my health. Those 3 things in context, always puts things in perspective. There are many less fortunate than us, struggling just to make it through a day.

I'm giddy with excitement right now:) I hope LL got some advise he can use in the future an pass on to others when they need it.

I sent you an email with my shipping info. Thank you again:)
