Need weapon for office environment

I just acquired my first non-tactical custom knife. It's a beautiful warncliffe BALD slipjoint nailnick (no thumbstud) lockback. I carry it at work because it's inside my pocket and doesn't draw attention in a very non-knifefriendly environment and only has a 1.75" blade. I love it and I'm carrying it every day.

BUT, I'm SO used to carrying a "tactical" knife of usually a 3.5-4" blade that I don't feel right.

I'm one of those security-conscious types and I don't feel comfortable without SOME kind of weapon on me.

I've tried every knife I own in my waistband (because I don't want a pocketclip showing on my pocket to draw questions) and all of them STILL look like a knife clipped to the side of my suitpants because of the clip.

What are my options as far as office weaponry that don't include a big, visible
pocket clip on my pocket or waistband and also won't sit in my right front pocket where it will scratch up my nice custom?

I've considered tough pens, but I'm used to knives.

I'm a short, fat guy, so neckers print under my shirt.

What kind of knife can I carry that's totally incognito in officewear and how?

(By the way, I can get fired for getting caught bringing a "weapon" to work according to the handbook.)

Help!

.

Fulloflead,
It's a shame that, in a western town like Denva, a man can get fired for carrying what men carry... knives!

Having said that, maybe you would consider just carrying your warncliffe blade in your pocket, and leaving a large folder or fixed blade in your vehicle... or in your briefcase. Why run the risk of losing your job over the knife? I doubt your office is hostile enough to actually need a knife (though, I suppose stuff happens).

Just a thought.....
Good luck choosing a blade that can keep you safe and on the payroll at the same time.

Medium Douk Douk? Blade is about 3.5", closed about 4.75" including bail. But very thin and easily pocketable. Stout backspring slipjoint.

But since you don't mind violating workplace rules, why not a firearm? If you're gonna get canned, get canned with style.

Personally, I find carrying a fairly flat one-hander IWB just behind the point of my hip makes for a very non-obvious carry. I don't think anyone's ever noticed my BM 710.

But if you're sure something like that is too obvious, then why not remove the clip, and carry it in your pocket instead of the slipjoint? Especially something like a Yojimbo or Dodo that looks alot like a boxcutter, should someone actually see it, should be pretty innocuous as long as it's left in your pocket.

I carry a Benchmade 530 Pardue, super slim and decent for most jobs office jobs of letter & package opening. Good enough to cause a serious gut wound if the boss gets on your nerves. Jk!

You can not see it in your pocket even in a thin silk suit.

What about a Boker subcom. The blade is less than 2 1/2" long to meet regulations yet is still quite full. You could use it as a money clip.

Alternatively, since you are in Denver you could probably wear dress cowboy boots with your suit and have a boot knife tucked in the top.

Honestly? In a whitecollar enviroment, your fists should be good enough man. But, if you want more, try these.

The delta dart would be taped with medical tape to your lower inner calf. We had some taped to our thighs for some missions in iraq.

CRK's Mnandi has a very penlike clip that might make it look more like a writing implement than a cutting tool.....

Thats what I'm sayin. If anything, just use your hands. If worse comes to worse, use a pen man. Or a chair lol. As far as utility, the super small victorinox escort on your keychain would be discreet enough not to scare anyone, but sharp enough to open envelopes and cut string, which i suspect is the only real uses for a knife in an office. http://www.vic2.jp/img/img_victorinox/10_sp_es.jpg

Personally I think it is a legitimate issue to want to be prepared for a possible violent encounter in an office environment. How many times have we seen it on the news where someone comes in to work and starts blowing away their coworkers? A knife isn't going to be good defense against a gun, but I'd rather have it than nothing at all, even if all I'm trying to do is get out of the building.

I work in an office, and I too feel naked without a little something on me to even up the odds, so I carry a clipless Spyderco Delica 3 in my rear pocket. No one knows its there, and I don't take it out for anything. I also carry a small slipjoint in my left front, which is my office knife for removing staples, sharpening pencils, etc. The Spyderco is so flat and light I can literally forget about it, but if I ever need it, it's there.

If you can find one, a Perrin Tri-Folder would do nicely. Easy to open and close once you're used to it. Inconspicuous as well. The only problem is that it's more suited for carry in, say, a wallet as opposed to a pocket. Also the design leaves the knife with some vertical and horizontal play, though vertical play can be controlled by a good grip. Still a good knife though.

Eh just my $.02

to 'even up the odds' in an office? full of guys in slacks, with ties and dress shoes? Your fists bro. Learn how to use em ;) they cant be taken away from you either. and

Ever been shot at before? A knife isnt going to help your maneuver to some cover and concealment bro. If someone brings a gun to work, you could have a razor sharp kukuri in your sock...thats still isnt going to help you man lol. hit the gym, hit the bag. get a couple of pointers from the local boxer on how to jab. youll be fine man.

I just think it is funny that a guy whose avatar is "Fulloflead" needs a weapon for the office. Dude get a helmet and a Level III vest, don't live up to the avatar.... :D

Another option is a Spyderco Swick, a sweet little fixed blade warnie that sits flatter than a man's wallet. I have one in my pocket while I'm at work right now. Mine deaminates bagels on a regular basis, I'm not to worried about office assaults as our crack force of 70 year old security guards will certainly protect me and the billion dollars of inventory that sit in this building.

The Swick is the bottom sheath, put it on a static line or just pop the sheath off with your thumb, as it was designed to do.

so why did you carry delta darts

If you wear dark suit pants ztyel handled folders with integral slips totally disappear. My favourite used to be the Spyderco Endura with integral zytel clip - sadly discontinued.

You could get the Spyderco Dragonfly but that's tiny...

But I have been interested in short bladed, light knives lately, so have you tried the Boker Sub Com series and I even carry a clipless Spyderco Yojimbo now and again. That WILL get looks from your colleagues!!

Ahhh, good point on the Subcom, if he wants something bigger, this is the Subcom's bigger brother:

I have a friend who works in an unemployment benefit office (welfare in the US?) and he has some stories to tell. Desperate people can do desperate things when the guy on the other side of the desk says no.
As for judging a man by what he's wearing - a guy in dress shoes and a suit can still kick your arse. James Bond springs to mind ;)
