Need weapon for office environment

If you can carry the custom folder in another way, like on a lanyard around your neck...or in a different pocket..or in the same pocket but separate the 2 knives with a handkerchief:

Use any big folder...take the clip off...put it in the bottom of your right pocket...no one should see it in there... if they do ask them why they are looking at you there.

to 'even up the odds' in an office? full of guys in slacks, with ties and dress shoes? Your fists bro. Learn how to use em ;) they cant be taken away from you either. and
"Personally I think it is a legitimate issue to want to be prepared for a possible violent encounter in an office environment. How many times have we seen it on the news where someone comes in to work and starts blowing away their coworkers? A knife isn't going to be good defense against a gun, but I'd rather have it than nothing at all, even if all I'm trying to do is get out of the building."
Ever been shot at before? A knife isnt going to help your maneuver to some cover and concealment bro. If someone brings a gun to work, you could have a razor sharp kukuri in your sock...thats still isnt going to help you man lol. hit the gym, hit the bag. get a couple of pointers from the local boxer on how to jab. youll be fine man.

Why don't you start a different thread called "Why I think no one needs to carry a knife in an office". The originator of this thread asked for suggestions regarding what knife he should carry in his office job and why. He didn't ask whether it was necessary, and obviously we're all very aware that it's not necessary, as you've now pointed out in three separate posts. We get it. You're right. Congratulations on your grasp of the obvious. Notwithstanding that, some of us like to carry a knife to the office anyway, and the subject of the discussion is what to carry, not whether to carry.

Boot knife? or something down your sock? That's what I'd have if I was in your scenario....

I'm a short, fat guy, so neckers print under my shirt.

What kind of knife can I carry that's totally incognito in officewear and how?

(By the way, I can get fired for getting caught bringing a "weapon" to work according to the handbook.)

Help!

.

I read that you don't want neckers but I just wanted to suggest this:

It's a Buck Hartsook in S30V steel. From what I've read it's a very small profile (overall length=4.25") but I gather that's what you need. You may be able to carry on the lower leg, in your pocket or in some other fashion.

But if you can get fired for a "weapon" then maybe just get a SAK Trekker or something. They're not so suspicious looking and sheeple friendly.

Good luck!

hardheart. I wore a delta dart taped to my leg, in case our team was overrun by iraqis, and we were out of ammunition, and had nowhere to fall back to. I didnt really care to be one of those guys you see on cnn, professing the merits of the insurgents, to a masked cameraman. My intention was to, after i was patted down, to somehow grab my dart, and stab the nearest guy next to me, not only killing him, but forcing his next buddy to shoot me. I didnt really want to be shocked with jumper cables to be honest...
And long beach guy, i did offer suggestions to him. 4 of them in fact. all i did after that was tell my opinions thats all.

Honestly? In a whitecollar enviroment, your fists should be good enough man. But, if you want more, try these....

I love how Cold Steel came out with a tactical marker.... Too bad Bic makes a better one for less money.

Well, I'm nasty guard MI, fishing for ideas if I go downrange (already have 3 DDs and a dble edge Paraedge, among other stuff). AFAIK, doesn't seem like I'd get any hassle up to Bn level on bringing whatever I choose, but personalities can change when activated. Rest of the unit got back last Sept, I was still in training. It'd be nice to get through WLC before another deployment, too.

Why don't you just get the right pants? Allot of fine dress slacks have a change pocket inside the right front pocket that is perfect for carrying a 3" - 4" bladed folder without it printing much at all.

Get something relatively straight & flat & remove the pocket clip "wala" you have a decent knife at your disposal in addition to your sheeple friendly box & mail opening warncliffe

a good knife for going downrange? depending on what you do. first off, well.. ill make another thread so that i dont interrupt this one. rather, go to the thread 'take a knife to war!' youll see my response to you, and the original author

I work in a large office building and always carry my BM710 or Byrd Cara Cara in my back right pocket alonside my wallet. Nobody can see it and I can pull it out quickly. I don't carry for self defence inside the office but I do have to walk through downtown Sacramento, CA to the bus stop or my car. I have been acosted by a crazy while waiting for the bus. I didn't have to pull it but the crazy left when he realized I had it. I like to always be vigilant and prepared.

I'd leave my usual edc in the vehicle and keep a SAK Executive or some other office excepted style in my pocket, and a tactical letter opener on my desk.

THERE ya go. Thats a great idea. Never thought of that. Have a 'desktop decoration' that can double up as a knife. Its always there, and always in plain sight (the best hiding place ever) A letter opener is perfect. Why didnt I think of that. Im sure theres a few decent letter opener style blades out there for sure.

Many armed violent encounters happen in office buildings. I was one block away from the office building in Atlanta years ago when a "day trader" went crazy and shot a bunch of people.

Will a knife help you in that situation? Maybe, maybe not. Maybe a J-frame in the right front pocket . . . Pack what you can and practice - or don't - but save us all any condescending advise about how one shouldn’t carry a knife (while you, the super dark ops operator have tactical pens taped to your ass!!). My $0.02.

Full of ....
You should really consider the consequences of NOT following the company guidelines .. believe me, they will not allow themselves to be liable if you pull a weapon on someone, no matter what the circumstances, and that person sues.
Your comment regarding "not feeling comfortable without one" needs some attention. This is not good.
Take Care

Personally I think it is a legitimate issue to want to be prepared for a possible violent encounter in an office environment. How many times have we seen it on the news where someone comes in to work and starts blowing away their coworkers? A knife isn't going to be good defense against a gun, but I'd rather have it than nothing at all, even if all I'm trying to do is get out of the building.

I work in an office, and I too feel naked without a little something on me to even up the odds, so I carry a clipless Spyderco Delica 3 in my rear pocket. No one knows its there, and I don't take it out for anything. I also carry a small slipjoint in my left front, which is my office knife for removing staples, sharpening pencils, etc. The Spyderco is so flat and light I can literally forget about it, but if I ever need it, it's there.

Thank you!

A lot of people have posted great ideas. I need to spend some time looking up some of the things people have posted. I'm also considering the idea of finding an alternate method of carrying my custom and dropping my AFCK into the bottom of my pocket. I'm sure a lot of people will end up benefitting from the information in this thread; not just me. Thanks to you.

Those of you who greeted me with hostilities, condescension and questions about my mental competence can just bite me.
