Need your help:

I’m involved in a court case. I’m sorry, I cannot give detailed information. I would like to know:

1. What size (blade length) knife do you normally carry?

2. What do you use your knife for?

3. At what age did you begin carrying a knife?

Thanx much for your help.

sal

When Sal Glesser asks for instances of such information on bladeforums, the response better be about 1000 posts!

1. Currently around 3.5 inches. I carry multiple pieces but this is my preferred length for overall duty.

2. Today I cut open a box, cut an apple into slices, cut the label off of a bottle, cut several lengths of duct tape, and something else I can't remember.

3. When I was 8 years old.

My EDC is an Endura, so greater than 3". But I do carry other knifes sometimes, but never anything with a main blade length shorter than 2.5".
I use a knife for general cutting, food (fruit usually), opening packages, whittling, cutting bait, etc.
I started carrying a knife when I was 12 years old.
Hope this helps.

glad to help, Sal.
1). i most often carry a Becker Necker with a blade length of close to 3.5 inches. if i'm going somewhere where i don't want to carry a fixed blade around my neck, i take my Dodo, which you are familiar with.

2). i most often use my knife for boxes and other packages. but i also use it to cut the extra wide duct-tape rolls (i suck @ tearing the wide ones, i always stick the tape to itself), alot of carving since i carve my own walking-sticks, i use a knife to manage my cuticles and keep my hands looking worthy enough for a woman to hold, and well, a hundred other things that it would take too long to name.

3). i carried a SAK when i was 6 until i got it confiscated when i was 11 or so by my granma when i cut myself pretty good. i then didn't EDC a knife again until i was 16, and didn't get caught into knife-hoarding until i was 19. my father and granpa are huge knife collectors.

The knives I carry are between 3 and 4 inches. Usually closer to 3.

I use it for everything from cutting up an apple to opening mail to spreading peanut butter

I started carrying a knife when I was 7 years old and EDC'ed a knife when I was 10 (I'm an old f@rt and way back when you could carry a knife in school)

3.5 inches, used for cutting boxes, opening mail, preparing food, whittling, etc.

I began carrying when i was very young, though only sometimes, not everyday, because i couldnt take em to school. Started carrying every once i got out of college when i was 22.

1. 3-4"
2. Utility, also used for many things at work such as cutting up boxes.
3. 14 or so.

3.75in
I carry primarilly for utility purposes, but also as a self defense tool when needed.
I started carrying (regularly) when I was 15-16
(I just turned 20)

1) 2.5 to 3.5 inch blade, depending on which one I pick up.

2) General utility, opening envelopes, boxes, plastic bags CD wrappers, flipping to keep my hands busy if I am carrying a balisong.

3) 15 years old

1. 3.5" or less most of the time
2. Opening packages, letters, sometimes food preparation, other household chores
3. On and off starting at age 16, constantly at 18

1. My EDC rotation is usually 3 1/2 to 4"

2. Opening boxes, mail, working around the yard, working on cableing, installing and servicing phone equipment.

3. 10 years old.

1 - usually between 2.5" and 3.5", but I'll carry my Military once every week or two.

2 - Food prep and theater tech work mostly (cutting tape and rope, modifying or improvising props, and doing last-minute costume alterations and jury-rigged repairs), but I mainly carry my knives to deal with all the utility tasks I'm not planning for. Like making a flute out of a drinking straw at Applebees. ;)
Self defense is there in the back of my mind, but it's never been a primary reason.

3 - First started carrying a SAK on and off at around age 14. About four years ago (age 20) I got my first one-hander, and there've probably been fewer than five days since then that I've gone knifeless.

My EDC rotation goes from 2 7/8's inch to 3.5 inches.

I use them for boxes, plastic wrap, food prep, whittling, opening envelopes, etc.

I got (and started carrying) my first pocketknife at 10.

My carry knives range from 2 to 4 inches.

Today I opened a box, sliced an apple, opened an envelope, and cut some string.

I've been carrying a knife for as far back as I can remember into my youth, maybe 5 or six years old. All farm kids did back then.

(edit to correct spelling)

1. 3" at the office, 4" otherwise.

2. Opening envelopes & packages, cutting string, cord & fruit, pulling staples.

3. 18 (can't carry a knife in my school district). Had a SAK since 13 or 14.

2.5 to 3.5 inches

Everyday stuff....opening envelopes, opening boxes, cutting tape, cutting string or slight bits of rope, slicing plastic and formed plastic blister packs, cutting vegetable and fruit for juicing, cutting meat, cutting articles or coupons.

Started carrying edc ~ 17 I'm 51 now.

1. What size (blade length) knife do you normally carry?

I carry two folders...Both have blades between 3.5 and 4 inches.

2. What do you use your knife for?

Cutting things that my teeth and/or fingernails are no-longer sharp or strong enough to cut. I carry one folder as my "defensive/offensive" folder, and one as my "utility" folder for the normal "day-to-day" cutting tasks.

3. At what age did you begin carrying a knife?

10 or 11, but since I'm now 50, those were different times "back then"...There weren't as many "sheeple" back in the mid '60's, and aside from the few hoodlums wandering around with switchblades, people didn't fear a man with a knife as they do now-a-days.

I carry several knives on a daily basis;
Blade length between 2 1/4" to about 3 1/2"
Use is general utility, opening mail, boxes, cutting out articles, cutting food.
I don't remember ever not carrrying a knife. My guess would be that the first ones I had were pretty dull. Both my Mom and Dad later taugh me how to use a knife, sharpen and care for it when I was old enough. I would think that would be around 5 or 6 years old.

Sal, if there's anything we can do to help please don't hesitate to ask.

I carry 2 usually:
1A. 3 1/2" bladed folder clipped inside rear pocket, hidden by my shirt.1B. A traditional pattern between 3"-4" closed in my right pocket.

2A. Self Defense. 2B. Cutting anything for anyone else, cutting tape, string, opening mail or packages.

3A. 15 years ago, at age 40, I began to carry in the rear pocket. 2B. 43 years ago, at age 12.
