Need your help

-I carry 2 knives EDC. Lengths range from 3-4".

-Uses vary from work tool, to food prep, to basic utility stuff (box and letter opening, newspapaper clipping etc).

I've had a knife since about the age of 5 (cub scouts). I've carried daily for at least 20 years.

Good luck, Sal.

Jeff Clark, engineer, age 55. Started daily carrying a scout knife with 2.5" blade at age 11 (when I got my paper route). I first carried a pocket knife at age 6. Now I carry updated version (Victorinox Adventurer SAK) with locking 3.25" blade. I carry everywhere but on airplanes and into courthouses. I use it to fix things, make things, open things, cut things apart for disposal and other utility purposes. It serves as a backup form of defense, generally in case of dog attack.

1. What size (blade length) knife do you normally carry?

4" or greater

2. What do you use your knife for?

As a cutting tool to open boxes, scraping, prying, stripping wires, etc..

3. At what age did you begin carrying a knife?
Approx. 7 years old

1. Typical EDC is 3.44 or 3.5 inches for primary knife, plus a Leatherman Charge with two blades 2.94 inches

2. All around general utility and survival. Today I used it to cut open boxes, cut wire, strip wire, cut rope, slice a peach, carve a notch in a stud, cut out a punch-out in the back of a cabinet and the day is far from over.

3. I recieved my first knife, a two bladed stockman which I still have, at age 8. I have always carried a knife, including to school from that day forward all the way through college, since then. Only time I am without a knife is when the government won't allow one, in the courthouse and on airlines, for example.

Good luck Sal!

Sal, sorry to hear that you are involved in a court case, and I hope everything works out for you.

I usually carry at least one standard sized SAK plus at least one one handed opener, which range in size from, say a Chinook II or Benchmade Blackwood if I am hiking, down to the Kiwi if I really don't want to seem threatening. ok, I ocnfess, I ALWAYS have the Kiwi. For an "average" size, I like the Persian. (Do we detct some prejudice here--ok, plead guilty). So anywhere between 2-4.5" would be the answer.

I have been carying knives since about second grade. When I was a kid in school, nobody cared-- everybody had a pocketknife (as we called them).

My knives are used for anything from opening packages, cutting 1/8" thick aluminum sheeting, making shelter, and damn near everything I can think of.
Cutting insulation off cables. Cutting tubing. Cutting cable ties. Preparing my lunch: slicing vegetables, fruit, etc. In my case, you might as well ask what I use my thumb for (and no smart remarks, guys).

Here is one example that may help. A group of people were opening a package (wood, cardboard, etc) with the only tools they had at hand which were single edged razor blades. One of them was (not too seriously) cut when the blade slipped out of his hand. I finished the job with whichever knife that I had on me at the time-- and needless to say, I have nver been injured using knives for this type of thing. And, I might add that any knife I carry is gonna be about as sharp as that single-edged razor blade.

Again--good luck and let us know if we can do anything to help.

I hope this resolves itself quickly.

1. 2-3" blade folder (often Spydercos)

2. Everyday utility: cutting thread, opening boxes/letters.

3. 20

2.5 and 3.5 inches.

Packages, mail, blister packs, string, tape, scoring drywall, plaster, mortising wood, occasional plant trimming.

Around 9 or 10 years old, my brother old scout knife, (But not to school)

G'day Sal,

1. Carry a few knives, smallest blade length being a SS Cricket ( 1 7/8" ), largest being an Endura or BM710 ( approx 4" )

2. Used for work predominately, but always carry a folder or two for that "just in case" requirement. Better to be safe than sorry.

3. Was given my first knife by my father when I was 6 years of age. Have always owned and carried knives since then.

Good Luck

1. What size (blade length) knife do you normally carry?
3 5/8" (Spyderco Rescue 93m), along with either a 3.5" Microtech Scarab (automatics are legal in AZ) or a 4.2" balisong.

2. What do you use your knife for?
Utility. Opening boxes, cutting boxes up, plastic bags, mail, CD wrapping, cleaning wounds when I beef it on my bike, and a million other things I can't think of until I need one and realize "Boy, I'm glad I have a knife with me".

3. At what age did you begin carrying a knife?
14

1. For EDC an Endura, a Victorinox Huntsman, and a CQC-7B, so that would be under 4". For outdoors activities a much larger fixed blade.

2. For day-to-day purposes opening packages and cutting things.

3. 8

1) I carry a 4" fixed blade and a 2" fixed blade.

2) I use them for all kinds of things, far too numerous to list. I don't wonder how some people get along without carrying a knife, though; I know how they do it -- they keep asking to borrow someone else's.

3) I've been carrying some kind of pocketknife at all times ever since I was five years old.
