Hello All,

I have a quick question. When should negative feedback be used? I have always heard even on 3bay that you should use it as a last resort, not the opening salvo. Just looking for what the proper bladeforums etiquette is.

Thanks a lot

I would say that negative feedback should be given after all efforts to resolve any issues have been raised privately and exhausted. The purpose of negative feedback, in my view, is not to punish the purported wrongdoer, but to apprise other Bladeforums members that the transaction went sour so that we can make a more informed decision about engaging in commerce with the alleged wrongdoer.

So I would favor attempting a resolution of everything privately, and if that doesn't work then go public.

+1 on this.

That is what I thought. I received some negative feedback and I have had no emails, PMs or anything prior. I am not disputing there could be an issue, and if there is an issue I will make it right. I just was poking around and I saw a thread that is 8 pages long now and I noticed that neither of the parties have negative feedback and I wonder how can that be when I get one without any discussion. Is there a way I can get the negative feedback removed temporarily (hopefully permanently) until I have time to contact the party and make things right. I take my reputation very seriously.

Thanks,

pcb105

Yeah, what that member did -- leaving negative feedback as a first move, without any contact or giving you a chance to resolve the purported issue -- is definitely not the way things are supposed to work around here. Contact the guy who left negative feedback and see if you can work something out with him. If he then feels that the matter has been resolved, he can request that a moderator delete the negative feedback (and then replace it with positive feedback if he wishes).

We've got two kinds of feedback here. One is iTrader and the other is posting a dispute in this forum.
I don't think negative iTrader feedback should be the first step. It should be the third step.

1. Contact the other member privately: email, PM, visitor message.
2. Start a thread here in FEEDBACK/GBU.
3. Leave iTrader feedback after everyone has had a chance to discuss it.

By then, the problem may have been resolved.

Thanks for your advice. I was planning on listing some more knives today, but I will hold off until I get this cleared up. Hopefully, I can get this cleaned up quickly.

I can whole heartedly vouch for Paul (pcb105). I've bought several knives from him and he is a straight shooter. There is nothing fishy happening on his end. It does seem that this other guy is out of the country and is using a US shipping address. I've sent the other guy a visitor message with a link to this thread.

Thanks for the feedback. I try to be accurate as possible, but I am still a newbie (as a few of you can attest) and could have made a mistake. I have tried since last week to resolve this issue. I proposed a full refund / return, a partial refund, etc... But I have yet to hear back. I have not seen him on BF for a bit of time. I hope all is well with him.

Have you heard anything back? I'm thinking you might not, if you have not already. That particular member is on another forum buying knives too. It seems a little unfair but because of this buy, slam and dash behavior with some people - you might want to consider selling to people with more/better feedback or even people with longer track records of being active on the forums. Just a thought.

I just heard back from him today. We are trying to work this out and get the negative feedback removed. I think geographic locations are playing a big part in the timeliness in getting this resolved.

Good to hear. Like the honey badger said, keep us updated.

No feedback today regarding partial refund, or clearing up my feedback score. This is getting very frustrating as I believe I have been very prompt with my responses and reasonable. Another email is being sent now.

Update: Buyer responded; wants me to pay for shipping back to US from Russia and for his time. What is the opinion of the group on this one? I can say it is very difficult to remain on the "high road" with this.

What specifically is the buyer complaining about? I never heard of paying someone for their time .

I cannot see what inconvenience he has suffered to begin with, much less wanting to be financially compensated for it. My apologies, but I smell a scam, a little extortion going on and I think it stinks. I know you Paul, and I know for a fact you are one of the good guys. I think you should post the emails and get more feedback.

I am with RevDevil on this, something does not seem right. I am not sure why he says he wants to be paid for his "time"? I would say return the money he paid and the return shipping would be fair, but I would not pay for his time. That seems ridiculous!!

Should I pay $5 the shipping to CONUS (which I shipped to) or the $60 for the return shipping from Russia. I guess he has a forwarder in US.
