Nessmuks

I'd love to see Bark River come out with another Nessmuk that has the wider blade:thumbup:

Of the production ones I think the ones Buck did a few years come closest to being a true Nessmuk

Ahem, since I don't have a beautiful Fiddleback to show off yet:D (just kidding Andy!), here is my monster nessie from Koster ... I have to say that the edge on the monster is pretty fine too, feels more like a cleaver than an axe.. But I have to do more with it to really judge.... I have to admit that I have been caught sitting around fondling my nessie, its a great set-up!

Lord I love that thing. I could quarter a deer in a few seconds with that thing. And an elk in a couple more minutes.

the nessie is great for turning pancakes!
hehe jk,

this thread is actually turned out to be one of the most good looking ones with all these nessie pics

i'd still love to get my hands on one someday

You guys make the finest nessies ive ever seen. I really am gonna have to scoop one up from someone.

Nope, not many production models that I've seen.. I like that Buck of HDs though.....

Who was it that posted the thread about modifying Old Hickorys into Nessmucks? Great idea I suppose you could do it with Green River unfinished blades too. I think you use the skinners and chop them off.

I've done a bunch of those mods.

Fiddleback, do you have a tutorial link to the old hickory mod? Is it something that is fairly easy to do? I am interested in doin one of those......

Hollowdweller,

You're right, it is a lot like a Hudson bay... Bill Siegle has an awesome looking Hudson bay in his catalogs, have you seen those?

Personnally, I loved sooo much what Fiddleback posted, that I had to try the Nessmuk design; I made my "own" version of the legendary knife; take a look:

Specs, for the ones interested:
- CPM-S30V 0.125"
- Convex grind (very small "v" edge - easily convexed)
- HT by Rob! @ Ranger Original RC 61
- Spalted maple handle, glued with brass pins
- Leather "pouch style" sheath :D

I'm quite satisfied with the result; this design is really usefull in the kitchen. I'll certainly use it more this summer. Comments, but especially critiques are very welcome! Thanks for looking!

What is the average blade size for a Nessmuk (not considering Koster's monster nessie :D )
