Rest assured, it's not you.Is it me or does the in progress pics of the AAPK 14 covers look like black saw cut bone instead of antique yellow?
Bone is more expensive than the other materials, shipping costs are often considered into the cost and the profit margin is very low on these. The shield does play into the equation.I am guesssing the higher prices on these 14 SFOs are in large part due to custom shields.
What handle material are they using that would increase the price? All the production schedule says is smooth green bone, is it camel or giraffe? If its exotic I can understand. If its just plain cattle bone I dont understand. While the price of the Olde Town SFO caught me off gaurd at first, Mr. Tigner sent out an email explaining that the combination of rarely used handle material and the cost of manufacturing the die to produce the unique sheild is the reason for the higher cost. That makes sense to me, I'm fine with it. Especially since he is being straight with us up front.
The thin blades are because GEC has a new CNC blade grinding machine.
if the shields are not fitted and the sides of each knife are together how do you peen the shield pin in place.

The single spear 14's were $59. 14 TCs were $91. How things have changed. The price of GECs from dealers seems to be climbing, significantly.![]()
Ooh, yep you are right. The sfos I purchased from the spear runs were Oily cr bone $74, and blk canvas $69, and Rbb 2 bld was $89ish. Still 15-20% less.
What about the 14 TCs? Think they will be $90?![]()
You might try and notify them well in advance next time. I think they are trying to work out a strategy such that the knives don't have to go to Germany and back for those North America buyers - that would save a lot of the red tape money...
I didn't realize they had taken such a jump; but jigged bone dealer cost has jumped 20% (end pricing was $59.44 to $63.97 in 2016). Dealers tend to charge a little more for SFO's, but the factory does not. For example, on the red sawcut, I added my shipping costs into the selling price of the knife whereas I do not on general production. But we shipped USPS Priority on these and on a $55 - $75 knife, $7 shipping sends most of the profit to the USPS.
Are we seeing the first glued shield on a GEC?
I'm getting to the bottom of this mystery and will let you all know as soon as I confirmI hope not!
