alright, the whoever votes will be public option has been enabled.

so, troll votes will not count. we know who comes here and who doesnt.

yes votes, i think we can assume it will be moderated by the same, ie glockman
and busse posts in the regular forum will probably be moved to the dedicated busse forum.

sorry evolute, saw your post right after i made this one.

evolute gets half credit for this poll!!! :)

it should be noted that this is in no way official, and spark has not agreed in anyway to go by the results here. it is simply for curiosities sake, though the results may be of interest to those in charge.

I'll vote "yes" if it is HOG moderated. :D

I'll vote "no" otherwise. :(

(So, no vote on the actual poll until that issue is concrete.)

Actually, after Code3's post yesterday, I could consider him being an honorary HOG if he would be the sole moderator. A definite maybe. :o

Mark, would you please edit your original post to specify the variables? For examples, specify whether we are to assume INFIdel moderation, or whether we are to assume non INFIdel moderation (I think the safe assumption is that the new forum would be non INFIdel moderated), and specify whether we are to assume the loss of the ability to post in the production knives forum?

Thanks.

good point. if it can be moderated by someone already here that would be a plus. though i still vote no.

I just don't agree with having a Busse only FS forum.

It would take a team of Harvard Economist to convince me otherwise.

This is what I said in the other poll thread and I'll add it here:

I would think that the isolation in a separate forum would have a negative impact on Busse knives.

Major corporations value their trade marks pretty much by discounting their advertising costs. Advertising equals exposure. Exposure equals sales.

So do you want Busse to have more or less exposure? If you don't care you should reconsider.

Now it would be interesting to have our own sales forum and see if the prices fall or stay the same.

Best Regards,
Tony G

The only way I'd consider it would be if it were moderated by a HOG. But my vote is still no.

Also the only votes that count should be votes of regular posters to this forum.

I should certainly hope that the results are of interest to those in charge. I don't want to sound like I'm ball-busting Spark... I like Spark, and like the forums... I am simply pointing out the obvious truth that, when one makes the forums less valuable to a large portion of the paying membership, it is likely to lead to negative repercussions, in regard to future membership dues.

A "NO" vote for me at the moment.

+ I agree with PM on this one in regards to haveing a HOG moderator if a new forum is started.

+ And I really like RF's stance that we, as paying members, should not have to feel like we are unwelcomed on the regular, high traffic forum just because Busse generates so much interest.

Not yet... And when that time comes, I'd rather see a division into price classes or types or even styles of knife, than over division by company. Really this should only happen when the VOLUME of listed knives becomes the issue. Until then, better POLICING of ourselves should alleviate the problem, and maybe allow for some slack as we adjust to new rules.

While I've only bought one piece of non-INFI in the Exchange, I still like just surfing through everything. You never know what you may find. If I was to vote for any other breaking up of the exchange I'd rather see it separated for fixed blades and folders. I really don't care about whether or not chatting is allowed in Exchange threads. I would just like to see whatever rules are decided upon be enforced equally across all FS threads.

It is a "NO" for me also. I suggested in another thread regarding this that "if" it were done the only way I'd be for it is if we had our own moderators (preferably chosen by the whole group). I was attacked for this comment, but that doesn't matter because I am still correct. ;) The only way it will work is if one of the HOG's or a group of HOG's are in charge of moderating it.

However, even if this were the case I am actually still against it.

If they are really so concerned about the for sale forums getting crowded they should just divide them into Fixed Blades and Folders. ( and I would support this change )

:D:D

done. if there is anything else of note i should edit in, let me know.

No, thank you.

I've already posted my reasons in the original Thread.

Still...this is Spark's house, not mine. I intend to be a good guest.

If Spark does put up a Busse "sale/trade/wanted" forum, it will more-than-likely be part of the "regular" Exchange Forum, just like the Buck Knives For Sale" forum is, and it would be moderated by the "regular" Exchange Forum mods (including myself).

If there are those of you who don't like that plan, you CAN start-up your OWN Busse knives for sale/trade forum somewhere else on the 'net if you like. As it is now, in the "regular" Exchange forum there is usually an overwhelming number of Busse for-sale threads that push all the others off the page quickly. That's just not fair to others.

I voted "YES" with the notion that it would be HOG/RAT/DOG regulated. I like the more competitive nature of our for sale threads with our friendly bumps and interesting comments compared to the sales that feature other maker's knives. It makes things more lively and it really keeps me on my toes when I post something for sale.

It chaps my ass when I see something as significant as a Silent Knight get locked by glockman99 due to minor chit chat. A knife like that deserves a sticky to remain at the top of the page, so getting it bumped due to chatter to me is no big deal.

I doubt very much that having a sub-forum in the vein of the Buck FS area would lessen the interest or availability of potential buyers. People are going to go where they need to to get the info that they want. I didn't start buying Busse knives just because I saw a lot of them for sale while I was looking for Swamp Rat knives, I started buying them because I did my homework and participated in the Busse forums and decided that it was something worth while. I would find it hard to believe that more then a couple of people here bought their first Busse on a whim. Most of us have a hard time trying to decide if a knife could be worth $300+ (until we get our first Busse of course).

Let's face it, we aren't your everyday knife buying crowd and our group dynamic is different then the loyal fans of other makers. This community is the main reason that I have more then a few knives from Wauseon. I see nothing wrong with standing apart from the crowd in the sales arena since we already stand apart in many other ways.

One last point. What we are talking about is really nothing more than helping to further organize a very large and active sales forum. It is no different then having Busse and other manufacture's discussion forums that resides outside of the General Knife Discussion arena. Having this separation in the discussion forums has evidently been very good for the Busse fans and newbies alike and it logically follows that further organizing the sales forum would have the same effect.

So, in summary, I voted 'YES'. If you voted 'NO', you're wrong and should change your vote. There's no need to appologize as long as you now agree with me. :D (I blame porkerson for this last paragraph.)
